  1. Hmmm what are yalls favorite percussion ensembles with non standard instruments or which ones have yall performed in? Here are 3 that i have performed in: "Junkyard Rumble" by by Julie Davila Performed by the 2005 Cedar Valley Middle School Percussion Section "Recycled" by Julie Davila Performed by the 2009 Williamson County Symphony Orchestra Percussion Section "Take a Stand" by Ian Smith Performed by the 2010 McNeil High School Percussion Section Post Videos!!!
  2. How much does the band play in the first 30sec to a min of the show
  3. I mean if i am being nit picky compared to other schools RR doesn't do as much playing while moving and their drill isn't filled with lines and has lot of follow the leader sets. RR also has a lot of large chunks of percussion break where the band pulls out fans, and they use alot of synthesizer. So i think when you dont play and march as much and your drill is not as hard but your show is super entertaining i would personally have a hard time giving a high musical or visual score. I would give RR huge percussion and visual effect scores. Where as some judges will say it doesn't matter how difficult it is and how much playing is actually it's clean and played well so they will give RR high visual and music scores...and that is where the split judging. But RR cant blame the judges because they should have known designing a show like that would take those risks. Either way RR does what they like to do in an awesome fashon and should be proud of where they got.
  4. Round Rock is super impressive in everything they do, but i do think their is a reason they get such split scores. I think they walk on a thin line between being a marching band and taking the "band" and "Marching" out of band. In my personal opinion i don't think they have crossed that line. I do think that can split the scores cause one judge might really like the style of what they do, but another judge might completely disagree with what they do. I mean most of the bands in finals did a lot more playing and moving than RR did. On the other hand RR's percussion is a lot more impressive than the bands in finals and when it comes to general effects and visuals RR had a STRONG show. So i think RR's split scores are largely to blame on the show they decided to put together...thats the risk you take doing something like that.
  5. hmmm i am pretty sure Texas State won last night...i dont see them in the finals scores...
  6. If someone is in the stands recording finals tomorrow night...if you can please record the entire Texas State Exhibition and put it on UTUBE...thanks!!!!
  7. Hey guys after finals check out the Texas State University Marching band...we are exhibition this year. We will be marching our Beatles show, and playing our Blonde show in a stand still! Good Luck to all the bands competing at state!
  8. McNeil the weekend of their first contest early october
  9. I was at area D and here are just a few of my quick thoughts about all the bands 1. Bowie - Awesome music and awesome drumline....deserved first. 2. Reagan's show isn't as good as people make it out to be, but their oboe solo was really good in finals. I would't have ranked them as high as they were but i would have them advancing to state. 3. C.T Johnson - in my opinion they were awesome and deserved second! Their drumline was lacking though. 4. Anderson - Same comment as CT, i would have put them at 3rd place 5. Westlake - very good! I do think they would have been 6th in my rankings though 6. Round Rock - Awesome Percussion! Easy drill and easy music though....i would not have advanced RR 7. Churchill - Best Drumline of the night (Actually moved during the drum feature)...i think they deserved to make state over Round Rock. 8. Akins - They had some tempo issues in finals....i would have ranked them about 9 or 10 9. McNeil - Rough finals run through...trumpets sounded really tired...there was a collision or 2....musically i still they they were better than Akins. I think if they had performed a better show than prelims they could have jumped a few spots. 10. Westwood - they won a tie breaker with Pflugerville because one judge ranked them 2nd musically. I think pflugerville deserved the finals spot but westwood deserved last in finals. They are good, but they just didn't compare with the others. Drumline was a bit off to. So my rankings would have been. 1. Bowie 2. C.T Johnson 3. Anderson 4. Reagan 5. Churchill 6. Westlake 7. Round Rock 8. McNeil 9. Akins 10. Westwood But of course alot of my opinions factors in difficulty of shows and things...good showings by all the bands!
  10. thank you for spelling McNeil right
  11. I love how people cannot spell MCNEIL!!!! not Macneil not McNeal nor McNiel lols
  12. I don't think Pflugerville, C.T Johnson, Anderson, or Leander are as good as Westlake, Akins, and McNeil. If i had to pick the 6 qualifiers it would be Reagan Bowie Churchill Round Rock Akins McNeil When it comes to Pflugerville i saw their show. They are definitely good, but i heard at BOA they stood still for a large portion of their show (correct me if i am wrong cause i only heard that from an individual so i could be wrong) and when i saw they just seemed to have a good sound, but they were not as strong when it came to details. That is why I personally would not see them going onto state. In terms of Anderson I saw both Westlake's and Anderson's show, and i don't think either were as good as McNeil or Akins. I do think either one could make it but in my opinion it will be Westlake. C.T Johnson is having a great season, but if BOA Houston is any indication as to where they stand amongst these bands they are breathing down McNeil's neck, but i don't feel like their performances in prelims and finals were consistent at all. So we will just have to see how they do, but I think McNeil will beat them out along with Westlake. Leander has not been as good as in the past. They lost to both McNeil and C.T at BOA houston, and i think their is a chance they wont make finals. And as all of that is opinion...bands like McNeil, Westlake, Anderson, CT Johnson, or Pflugeville could just have an amazing performance or have a terrible performance and change everything. It will be a good day filled with great bands!!!!
  13. This is 11 bands who i think the 10 finalists could be from what i have seen: (I couldn't choose just 10) Reagan H.S. Churchill H.S. Bowie H.S. . Round Rock H.S. Akins H.S. McNeil H.S Anderson H.S Westlake H.S Leander H.S. C.T. Johnson H.S Pflugerville H.S. And with 6 going to state i would have to divide them into these categories: Bands who in my opinion will definitely goto state: Reagan Churchill Bowie Bands who are competing for the other 3 spots: Round Rock Akins McNeil Westlake Anderson Bands who will make finals but not state: (And I think depending on prelim performance other bands could beat out for finals) Leander C.T. Johnson Pflugerville but of course all of this is just opinion.
  14. This might be a dumb question but how many bands will move on to state in area D with 34 bands attending
  15. Does anyone have a final count for Area D?
  16. the percussion instructor wrote it
  17. Well obviously no matter who wrote it "Short Ride in a Fast Machine" is not the piece without the woodblock....
  18. Obviously you have never heard "Short Ride in a Fast Machine"
  19. even then the band was playing 95% of the time and the bunny suit was in colorguard. The main problem i have with RR is they seem to take the "band" out of marching band. But none they less they are very good at what they do and deserve every win they get. Its just not my personal favorite style of going about things.
  20. Could you post a link to that schedule? And do you know when finals would start. I am just confused as to how they have a schedule if there is one more region to have their contest.
  21. Does anyone know when we will have a schedule for the Area D Marching Contest?
  22. What i have to say about RR is they don't play as much as the other bands do. Their Drumline plays a lot, and their PIT plays a lot. Other than that its about half playing and half visuals/props. I just might be stuck in the old days but I think you have to give groups like McNeil and Westwood some points for not using props and giving their general effect through music and their drill. All the schools play really well though. I could see both Round Rock and McNeil in Area D Finals next Saturday.
