  1. i explained my theory earlier in this thread, when all the bands are so close to one another in terms of skill there will be more weirdness and disagreement between the judges and thus more unexpected placements. this isnt exactly confirmed but logically it should check out especially if you look at the ordinals for this area
  2. i wish they could do some gerrymandering to where there can be 25+ bands in the area so all of them (the usual region 32 suspects + brandeis) can make it 🥲🥲
  3. havent looked at the ordinals but so deserved. im no uil judge or anything but their show this year is just so beautiful (1st in my heart)
  4. wow… ctj really showed up at the end. huge congrats to them
  5. woah wylie in bottom half and braswell in top…….
  6. not entirely related but still somewhat related to smbc, a few years back I believe dallas highland park was dominating the 5a smbc scene and now it seems like they're struggling even just in their own area. does anyone know anything about this?
  7. does anyone know if the contest is being livestreamed again this year? and if so on what platform?
  8. yeah it seems a lot of the heavy hitters in this area were moved to area c (or b I don't remember which one) like china spring but yes burnet and fredericksburg should make it very comfortably. haven't watched any of the other bands except for austin travis and legacy ranch
  9. this issue sounds incredibly familiar... it almost happened with 5a area h where a band got dq'ed but thankfully they were the 26th band in the region making it go down to 25 at area, keeping the 5 state spots. that's incredibly tragic and I wish those who are fighting for the 4th spot the best of luck
  10. id have to agree. i saw their show at vrmf and imo they did wakeland 2023 ballad and cedar park 2022 closer justice, probably best season they've had so far maybe but idk much about the nisd schools
  11. this is truly a texas hs marching band moment
  12. imo bell has a harder show than carroll so carroll has the edge pretty much unless bell has the best cleanest run they've had all season
  13. yeah i imagine it'd be a challenge to hold any sort of band competition at dkr whether its boa or uil. it's cool that austin isd used to be able to play in there, it's such a large and nice stadium. thank you! im in BSECE and im getting my butt kicked but just being at ut and also being in longhorn band make the college experience better
  14. this rule is true. found here: under "area certification to state" https://www.uiltexas.org/policy/constitution/music/area-marching-band
  15. i haven't been to lbj library myself yet since i rarely have time during the day to (engineering major lol) but the campus in general is pretty nice. there's one study spot that im gatekeeping that's near the EER its so pretty it doesn't even look like its ut anymore. also being close to many goods is also pretty fun, i have been to a few of the competitions here like boa austin and region 32/area h uil competitions to support my band as well as other bands in leander isd that i have friends in. im part of the longhorn band myself and the difference between high school band and college band is really something
  16. i know they hold boa competitions at college university stadiums such as mclane stadium at baylor for both boa and uil as well as bobcat stadium which was recently put into use for the new boa san marcos regional, so sometimes i think about what would happen if boa or uil ever put a competition at dkr memorial stadium at ut austin (totally not speaking on this because im a student at ut austin)
  17. wait bc i need to see that. mirror mirror is 100% my favorite cedar park show thus far and i would love to see another iteration of it
  18. this is also something ive noticed for a lot of other bands and so it made me curious. does anyone have information on the rules or lack of rules concerning bands using music books of other bands from previous years? for one example john paul stevens from san antonio used wakeland 2023’s ballad and cedar park’s 2022 closer and watching their show is what got me curious about it. not trying to demonize it i am just curious
  19. people who have no idea what they’re talking about seem to have more audacity to speak their mind
  20. hes definitely talking about round rock, no way in heck reagan gets 2nd unless uil judges pull something weird (which is not completely impossible as we’ve seen some weird scorings across 5a area but still i highly doubt that will happen)
  21. i totally agree that its going to be tough for that 4th spot. westlake saw some good placements at their competitions this year and.. vista ridge and vandy are vista ridge and vandy. i know i preach not to compare scores/placements across competitions but i cant help but be curious about the implications of their placement at duncanville..
  22. 💀 anyways has anybody seen lake travis’s show in person? lake travis has always been super solid every year but as previously mentioned in this thread they havent gone to many comps. i saw recently they attended the duncanville marching invitational where they placed right in the middle of the pack, 8th place. any thoughts?
