Yeah, but I don't know if I feel good about being in the first block with that much potential talent in 4A. Unless something happens or somebody proves me wrong I bet the Finals will all be familiar schools from last year with maybe 1 or 2 jumping in.

Your thoughts are valid and everyone has an opinion. A lot of it just depends on the judges and I think as a school you have to really understand what judges are looking for. I was not taking any offense to what you said. When UIL did realignment 2yrs ago the cutoff was 514 to go to 4A. I expect that number to be higher when the numbers come out this year for the 2024-2025 school year. I don't really expect any 3A's from Area C to be moving up to 4A. In the event at Royse City, Mineola almost had #1 in Prelims over the defending 4A State Champ Celina. I have to agree that Atlanta, Mineola, Redwater are the top 3 and will probably finish in some order. Winnsboro I think could make it in as well and Queen City maybe for #5 or maybe a Mt. Vernon who finished 1 spot out of the State 2 yrs ago or maybe an unknown band program on the rise.

If you go back and look at the last 3A State Finals in 21 all 5 of the schools that represented Area C made Finals and finished in the Top 7. Last year, in Area the same 5 schools once again would have advanced to State if there was a contest with Mineola winning Area but also having the overall highest score in any 3A Area Contest last year. The last time I looked I do not believe Mineola and Atlanta are carrying 125 band members. I think Area C will be interesting as Winnsboro/Atlanta/Queen City/Redwater have all competed against each other a few times this season while Mineola has been going up against mostly 4A/5A schools that have been in State Finals. Whoever makes it to State and eventually wins is going to have to earn it. Area C is a very very strong division for marching bands.

Snapshot number have already been turned into UIL. They will be meeting in the few months to decide what the enrollment cut numbers will be for each classification. Just because there are schools that are on the edge of going up, they may not because the enrollment cut numbers do not stay the same and usually go up based on the numbers turned in. So, you could have a school that is under by 100 2 yrs ago turn in something that is over 200 and end up still in the same classification if the cut scores get raised. There has been talk of a 7A but I don't see how that can happen with some of those schools would then end up having to drive 3-4 hours just to play each other. I think there will probably be a 6A Division 3. There are more schools that move up then move down. If I remember, I think UIL releases the new districts in Feb or Mar.

One of the teams that made state back in 2021 will not return as Westwood did not make it out of regionals this past weekend. Region 4 3A Tuesday 10/16 in Mt. Pleasant with 5 schools that made state finals in 2021 performing (Queen City, Atlanta, Redwater, Winnsboro and Mineola) for a chance to go to Area on 10/28 at SFA.

I guess we won't really know what happened unless we see the Final Score Card for the judges. All the bands in the finals are very talented and very deserving. I just like to go back and look at lots of band competition scores cards to see how they compare to each other to understand maybe how a band missed out on placement or making finals. You typically see trends of some kind of a glaring weakness that sticks out.

Yeah, I was curious how Mineola went from 2nd in Prelims to 6th in Finals. Yet, won Overall Guard and Overall Drum Major in Finals.

Based on Division 2 Prelims 2 of the judges seemed to agree on many of the scores and one judge must have been looking at things a lot differently. The Ranchview Percussion award was weird. Also, the one judge who gave Mineola all 7 which cost them 1st overall in Prelims. I am also curious to see final judges results there was a lot of moving around in scores. It wasn't live streamed last year. Most of the competitions like this are not live streamed because if they do then they lose revenue unless they decided to stream it and make you pay for it which is what happens at the State Finals.

This is the final schedule for the Mineola Marching Festival that will be held on Monday October 9th, 2023. Several schools that typically compete in this event have a 4-Day Weekend. Mineola usually gives awards for Military and also for Corps.

If I remember the contest was a bit different last year and lasted forever. I think they had over 30 bands and did a 3A/4A Finals then did a 5A/6A finals that didn't start until after 10pm if I remember correctly.

Still waiting on a schedule for the contest on Monday 10/9. Rumor is there are 23 bands performing with an exhibition from the TJC Apaches. So far I have confirmed the following bands Tenaha Beckville Brownsboro Lindale Sunnyvale

The first place I would reach out to is the Band Director for Channelview. Typically, when a school is hosting a marching contest the band director for the hosting school creates the schedule or someone from the band staff does. If there festival is this coming Saturday, they should by now have a schedule made.
