  1. Also, if the field judges are next to some people who aren't marching in time and or not playing as well as some, then those schools may not get as good of a score from them as if they were somewhere else on the field at that time. For some reason I always find that aspect of the field judges fascinating. When I see scores all over the place for a school, it actually makes me feel like the judges are doing a good job because they are staying in the lanes of what they're supposed to be judging.
  2. They are all judging different things though so you might see them off. There's a woodwind, brass and percussion judge along with a individual marching and group marching judge.
  3. The worst part was having to watch the Thursday night football commercial 3 times when your band is performing
  4. If Klein Oak makes State then they'll probably get the early slot because that's been their MO the last two years. lol
  5. It looks like this is being held at Woodforest Stadium this year instead of Galena Park. https://www.uiltexas.org/music/marching-band/area
  6. With Texas having the 8 hour rule, I can guarantee you that the good bands in Texas are good because the directors do a much better job at time management in practice than places without the rule and within Texas that's what sets some of the schools apart from each other.
  7. I'm a little late to this party, but I just saw the thread. I think one of the issues with judging area is that all 3 music judge puts a score for has to put a score for Ensemble, Wind, Brass, Percussion and Content, all on one first time watch of a show. Then both visual judges have to score individual, ensemble and content. To me, that is an impossible task to get 100% right.
  8. theyxe cancelled finals so the top 5 prelims bands are headed to state
  9. Our bands earliest call time this year was 3:45 am, the morning after a football game. We usually do an hour visual rehearsal on the morning of a competition at the school before eating, dressing and inspection. This was for a 9:30 am performance time at a stadium about 30 minutes away. The kids rocked it though. Luckily our state performance time is late morning we drive up Sunday night and stay not too far away but we'll still get a practice in that morning somewhere.
  10. My question has been answered. Here's the schedule with placeholders for area C. https://www.uiltexas.org/files/music/6A_Prelims_2024.pdf
  11. I would think so but it definitely messes up the pre draw order for state so I'm not sure what they handle that.
  12. I'm guessing the final schedule won't be posted until Area C competes and there's not way to figure it out using the draw order schedule?
  13. It goes to whoever has more head to head wins. So 3 judges had Katy ahead of Ranch so Katy was in 10th
  14. The rain is coming down pretty good right now too
  15. Everyone got to perform in prelims with no delays
