2022 6A UIL State

https://www.uiltexas.org/files/policy/October-2022-Legislative-Council-Packet.pdf Take a look at page 10. If you don't feel like reading: the new policy is pending approval by the Commissioner of Education. May start in 2023-2024 or 2024-2025, depends on logistics -
UIL State Military Contest (1A/2A & 4A)
celesta replied to Dave609's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
It's pretty cool to see how different the culture is between military and corps style contests. Aside from the obvious differences from the performers, there are also more subtle differences in the directors and contest staff. The announcer in the military stream has a very obvious Texan accent and there are people wearing cowboy hats and polo shirts rather than full suits. Kind of hard to believe that this contest is taking place on the same field I was marching on three days ago. -

This is a very specific example, but schools winning the Lone Star Cup receive $1,000. https://www.uiltexas.org/lone-star-cup It does account for academic and athletic competitions in addition to music, so you see some schools that aren't known for their bands (5A Corpus Christi Flour Bluff, for example, is one that I believe is very strong in academics.) I'm sure there are more reasons, but the Lone Star Cup is probably one of the reasons why districts and schools are keen on UIL. -
2022 BOA San Antonio (Nov. 4 & 5)
celesta replied to LeanderMomma's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
On a related note, Prosper ISD's stadium wasn't the best choice for hosting a band contest. You could hear bands warming up from the stands while watching bands perform, especially during quieter moments. Parking for buses and trucks were also very limited. (Prosper HS is next door but it's useless because there are no direct roads between PHS and PISD Stadium.) -
Update Predictions Page
celesta replied to MarktheTrumpet's topic in TxBands Site Suggestions, Problems, and Questions
So, uh... It turns out that James Bowie is going to BOA Orlando this weekend. Are there plans to make one for that contest or is one Texas group not enough to justify it? I've never seen the predictions page in the years past so I don't know the precedent. -

celesta replied to LeanderMomma's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Oh dear god next year's GN is a bloodbath with Broken Arrow vs Hebron vs The Woodlands vs (maybe Keller) vs Avon vs Carmel and maybe add Round Rock to that mix if they're continuing their trajectory for this year It's only week 2 of October and we're already talking about 2023 -

Hebron's finals run There's probably nothing cooler in HS marching band than experiencing Hebron live. the show was still unfinished and they ended at a musically weird spot, but it was amazing to watch what other band kids can do. -

I feel like Trinity is a pretty underrated program. Despite some ensemble tuning issues, I'm really loving the sounds they're making. Their scarlet capes look nice too! That being said, what's up with all the bands doing capes this year? First I saw Summit at the Mansfield POC, now FloMo and Trinity?? -

It's only been about a minute in and Keller is already my second favorite show of the season (I like Vandy too much lol) edit: the bicycle set might easily become the most iconic drill move of 2022 -

2022 Predictions
celesta replied to Clarinot's topic in TxBands Site Suggestions, Problems, and Questions
Mckinney Marching Invitational needs to be updated. Highland Park will not be attending (BOA Bedford) Wylie East, Frisco(?) Heritage, and Granbury will be attending (source) This ruins most of our predictions, so it would be cool if we can redo them. -

2022 Show Announcements
celesta replied to FaultLineBlues's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Part 2 as contest season begins! Highland Park H.S.: "New Frontier" Mansfield Legacy H.S.: "Clouds" Midlothian H.S.: "Fire & Ice" --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also, something about The Woodlands... Their show seems to be titled "Mad Mod And Go" rather than just "Mad Mod Go" but I can't really verify it. Would like some help... Another cool thing: BOA is showing show titles AND music selections in their program books! Program books for today's contest have already been released, so I suggest checking them out! https://marching.musicforall.org/programbook-mcallen22/ https://marching.musicforall.org/programbook-newmexico22/ -

McKinney somehow beat Highland Park. There seemed to also be errors in scoring as well. I’d recommend checking the 2021 thread if you’re interested. -
