  1. Hebron seals the deal. That’s about as far as I can go. I know the placements matter but they kind of don’t since so much is subjective. Mind blowing performances.
  2. The upper level was open in the 5A competition. It was nice to sit up there!
  3. I loved the Rouse show at 5A state. Very happy for them as well!
  4. There was a full band retreat for 5A state...and it was AWESOME. Yay for full retreats again. I assume they'll do one for 6A as well.
  5. Hi band parents/boosters - I have a question for you. Our 5A band is one of the only ones I've seen that does not have a semi/trailer truck for props, equipment, etc. We have three small UPS sized trucks that we own, and they aren't ideal for large props, instrument storage, etc. Does anyone have experience buying/renting/getting a semi/trailer for your band? If so, I'd love advice on where to start for our band to try to get a vehicle like that. Thanks for any insights you may have. Our district funding is limited, so we'll likely have to raise funds or figure out a funding model.
  6. In addition to waking up with HP's Sugar Rush music in my head (b/c that was my kid's show, so it's been in my head since August), I also have Rouse's music in my head. 🙂 Again, every performance was truly outstanding yesterday, but Rouse's show was especially lovely IMO...really loved that music book! Congratulations to all the finalists and to the medalists! It was such a wonderful experience seeing all of those shows in one sitting, and seeing the full band retreat at the end. I can't wait to follow along for 6A...
  7. Yes, thank you!!
  8. Can someone explain what the individual visual score is, exactly? Thanks!
  9. I’m proud of our HP Highlander Band! They did all they could with a lot of joy! What an amazing day. Every performance by every band has been so outstanding!
  10. So the same people are judging but they judge different categories?
  11. It is crazy (in a good way) that bands are BETTER after Covid. This year’s 5A prelim was soo good!
  12. I think this is very much in the ballpark but it will be so interesting to see where things land when it’s all done. I am too nervous to venture a guess. Dang…stacked final with also some notable bands missing. All of these shows are so unique…the judges have their work cut out for them. It really was a fantastic day of stunning performances. And one of my favorite parts was hearing from all the drum majors at the end. Band kids truly are the best kids!!
  13. Earlier today some of our folks said it was fun and parked nearby...but it's an easy walk.
  14. Excited for Block 2!
  15. Today is the day! Good luck to all 5A bands in prelims today! I can't believe it's time... 😃
  16. Never mind. Both prelims and finals are now up on the UIL website.
  17. Any idea how we can find this kind of sheet - with prelims - for other areas? I can only seem to find the final results.
  18. Not sure about anyone else's band, but we are seeing some sick kiddos. I think they are just worn out! I'm personally very glad that my student's band is not participating in a contest on Saturday. They are leaving for San Antonio early Sunday, and I think it would have been a beating to compete all day/evening on Saturday and leave the next day. I think the day of extra rest will help them.
  19. I noticed there were several schools separated by a single point at various Area finals. It's all going to make for a terrific state championship where all the bands get to shine on the biggest stage. I'm thrilled for these bands, their directors, the parents...making great music matters, and all of these programs have worked so hard, not to mention dealing with a very challenging 2020. I can't wait to cheer for every single one!
  20. Does anyone know if the prelim scores are available anywhere for this Area?
  21. Southlake has a lot of momentum right now, and after last weekend their confidence has to be up! But, like you said, it's going to be a very tough competition. So many terrific bands. I'm also not counting out Lake Highlands.
  22. I would like to say that I loved Pine Tree’s show and think there is much, MUCH more ahead for that band. I think all the ingredients are there. Well done!
  23. These are the finalists, In draw order, I believe: Poteet North Forney Royce City Forney Sulphur Springs Red Oak Highland Park
  24. After Prelims I still think Forney and Highland Park lead for the first two spots (not sure what order). Picking a third will be hard! Let’s see what happens in Finals! Good luck to all! Really nice performances by all these bands today! Great band day…
  25. Nice first half! Boy is it windy!! Challenging day for colorguard, especially!
