  1. This BOA DFW finals was seriously so good, like wowwww. Considerably stronger than last year, even with no Keller in attendance. Still sad about Forney missing finals, they were definitely just as good as some of the bands that made finals.
  2. Hebron’s closer is so interesting. I really like that musical selection. It’s different than anything I’ve heard them play. We’re so used to this level of musical craziness from Hebron that I always have to remind myself that it’s not normal to be that freaking good.
  3. Flower Mound back in their art bag. I think I enjoyed the first half of the show more than the second half. Those bassoons were incredible!!
  4. Love Coppell so much. Tons of imagination visually and the music is so demanding with all those different time signatures. Feels light on the marching in some parts though.
  5. Marcus 🔥🔥🔥 I’m not even a percussion person, and I still can not get over that feature! I think there was a tear in the brass, prelims also felt a bit rocky with the tempo, it’s really hard stuff! Maybe shaping up to be my favorite Marcus show since 2017.
  6. Like Carroll, Timber Creek has a really great show and just needs to clean. I think they could be one to watch out for at San Antonio 👀
  7. Carroll has a really great show, they just need to clean, clean, clean. That flute soloist at the beginning was awesome! Probably my favorite Carroll show ever.
  8. Keller Central bringing the energy and intensity! Everything is very exposed and stripped back, lots of demand in that opener. It makes me a liiiittle nervous seeing some 6A schools without any part of their closers with area being a week earlier this year.
  9. I like this niche that Waxahachie has developed with the cute historical shows. The attention to detail with the visual design makes it so immersive. Really impressive and engaging music performance as always.
  10. Bell’s whole opener is so good! Some of the best stuff I’ve seen from them in years. The ballad is difficult with all those quiet, long phrases on the move, and there’s definitely room for improvement there. I wonder if they’ll have the closer ready for next week.
  11. Aledo’s quality of sound is so good! Really impressive music performance. The Beethoven in Havana will now be stuck in my head for the rest of the night.
  12. I think Reagan was the best for me so far. Just really solid throughout. Not their most interesting concept, but there’s something about the simplicity that really works when it’s executed like that. Lots of difficulty and exposed moments.
  13. Bridgeland was so good. I didn’t hear anything to warrant the panic about the music I was seeing. Also that guard 😳
  14. Probably my favorite LD Bell show in recent years. So beautiful!
  15. I really like Timber Creek this year. The show feels more ambitious than anything they’ve done, plus, the guard is very quickly rising up the ranks and will be a big threat at WGI this year. I just hope they can get the show finished and clean enough for area in two weeks.
  16. Probably my favorite Cy Fair show I’ve ever seen. Also those woodwinds 🔥
  17. I looooove The Woodland’s visual design this year. Those props are so cool. I also love the Spanish flair in the music, thank you TWHS for always having interesting repertoire! Definitely some music moments to clean up, but visual was cleaner than I was expecting. Guard is exceptional as always despite the wind.
  18. Marcus’ show is kindof different for them, and I love it. Those weird pitch bends in the woodwinds are so so cool. Then that percussion feature!!!!! So. Freaking. Good. The ballad showcases that typical Marcus sonority.
  19. Wakeland was very clean and energetic. I was especially impressed with their visual performance. This show concept has been done 1 million times, but they found a way to make it completely engaging. I was definitely very wrong when I called their drill easy in August, lol.
  20. Coppell is always one of my favorites. They are the full package and go all out every year. The giant rifle and piccolo props are so creative! Not my absolute favorite visual aesthetic with all the big boxes (reminds me a bit of Hebron 2018) but I don’t really care because everything was so so good.
  21. Pearland was fantastic!!! Very strong Cartwright vibes obviously. Those flute solos feel right out of a Broken Arrow show. They should easily make Nats finals with this show I think. Definitely some cleaning to do visually, but the whole show is out there. Might medal tonight 👀 who knows…depends on how clean everyone else is though
  22. Great job from Forney! Hope they can snag a finals spot despite the early performance time.

  24. Shocked with Timber Creek in 2nd in 6A. Thought they had some quite rough moments musically.
