UIL Area B 2022
peshbandkid replied to SEAstar23's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Skyline (and most DISD bands) are show style bands, so it's an entirely different marching band format that isn't seen in UIL SMBC contests -
It's been a few days, so I'm gonna move on from the Wakeland scandal amd make some predictions 1: Wakeland Wakeland has really outdone themselves throughout this season and I think they can pick up one more major win before the season is over. 2-3: Keller, Waxahachie I think Keller will be improved from BOA Dallas, but making up a near three point gap on an equally as talented bad is a difficult ask. Still, they will be well ahead of most the competition. I continue to be floored by Waxahachie this season! The Paris theme works extremely well and their music is just lovely! 4-6: Lake Ridge, Permian, James Martin Permian pulled off an impressive win over Lake Ridge at Midland, but all of that difference was in GE (which can vary significantly more than music or visual between contests.) James Martin should get into finals here after finaling at BOA Dallas. 7-9: Plano East, Berkner, Fossil Ridge I have only seen PESH this year, and they are at a level we were at in 2019! Berkner and Fossil Ridge should both do well and make finals here 10-13: Allen, Legacy, Chisolm Trail, Canyon I haven't seen any of these groups this season, so here I think any of them could make it. I'm leaning towards Allen or Chisolm Trail, but we will have to wait and see!

It's roughly 95% reactionary for Wakeland. I've just been incredibly impressed with them this season! -
State Rankings

Stealing directly from HornRank, what would you say is the current top 12 in the state of Texas? I would personally have it as: 1. Hebron 2. Vandegrift 3. Flower Mound 4. Cedar Ridge 5. Ronald Reagan 6. Marcus 7. Claudia Taylor Johnson 8. The Woodlands 9. Vista Ridge 10. Wakeland 11. Coppell 12. Cedar Park First 5 Out: Keller, Round Rock, Cy-Fair, Bridgeland, Westlake Obviously, this is not perfect, nor will it please everyone, but this is how I see the state of Texas right now -
2022-23 Area C Predictions?

Interesting choices. I personally can't see Braswell ahead of Prosper, Wylie, or Rockwall, but predictions are predictions -

What a showing for Wakeland! If only 5A state was this year as well -

I don't know if I'd say that Austin is overrated, more like DFW can sometimes be underrated. Just looking at last year's SMBC, 4 of the top 5 in 6A were DFW and 5 finalists from 5A were DFW area as well. There was also a period of time in the late 5A/early 6A where Lewisville ISD just swept medals or got as close to it as possible. DFW definitely has pockets of phenomenal bands that don't get exposed because of them not attending BOA or contests outside of the DFW With that being said, the Austin area is home to some equally as good bands historically like James Bowie and Cedar Park as well as newer programs like Vandegrift and Cedar Ridge. Both areas feature phenomenal programs that are just as good as the top bands in Dallas -

Someone did mention Forney making a move, and they did! On a semi-related note, 6A Area C is going to be brutal. Hebron, FloMo, and Marcus are locks. That means we have to select (at most) three of: Rock Hill, Wylie, Wylie East, Prosper, and Sachse. Then, you would still have Plano East, Lewisville, McKinney Boyd, and Rockwall in the finals bubble. -

After this past weekend, I could see them in the top 35, but probably not a finalist this year -

I think they are all finals locks, but I do think Vista will be ahead -

I think part of that had to be Colleyville having a rougher run. Colleyville did place higher in prelims through the tie-breaker. Nonetheless, they will both be finalists at Area! -

It might be because of how much I like CR, but I think they stay ahead of CTJ at San Antonio. Something about them this year is just so phenomenal! -

Final prediction for this contest from me! 1-3: Westlake, Westwood, Wakeland I feel pretty confident placing these three up here. A W will get a W! 4-6: Prosper, Wylie East, Waxahachie Prosper's first contests since HEB, I think they will come out and surprise! Wylie East was FAN.TAS.TIC at McKinney this past weekend! I am secretly hoping they make the move upwards. I love the Paris theme from Waxahachie and think they will also do very well 7-11: Owasso, Choctaw?, Keller Central, Rock Hill, Colleyville Heritage Owasso is a pretty consistent elite band in Oklahoma so they should fit here. I don't know much about Choctow, but they placed close to Owasso at the Renegade Review so i'll place them here. Rock Hill showed OUT at Dallas, and I think KC and Colleyville Heritage will be in finals as well! 12-15: Southlake Carroll, Burleson Centennial, Sachse, Rockwall The last spot in finals will be a fight. Sachse did place at Midland, but this will be a considerably deeper contest. Burleson was ahead of Rockwall at McKinney, but the gap was small. Southlake Carroll missed finals at Dallas by 0.6 points, and that contest was more stacked than this one will be. This will be a very strong contest! -

Post BOA Dallas predictions 1-2: Coppell, Keller Although Coppell was ahead at Dallas, Keller still has a lot of cleaning to do so they'll be up here 3-5: Waxahachie, Timber Creek, L.D. Bell Bell really surprised me at Dallas this past weekend. I hope they can keep up their momentum and keep cleaning to get back to state. Waxahachie and Timber Creek will likely move up in my opinion. 6-8: Southlake Carroll, Keller Central, Duncanville Carroll will be better than what they did at Dallas, so I do anticipate them to move up here. Keller Central should contend for state and based on what I have seen of Duncanville, they look better than last season and could possibly fight for state spot 9-12: Haltom, Highland Park, Lake Ridge, James Martin Martin did make finals at Dallas, but there are no guarantees. Lake Ridge is very strong this year, as well as HP and Haltom. Honestly, I could see any combination of two schools here -

I think they only skipped last year because of the Grand Nationals trip. More often than not they go to state -
2022-23 Area C Predictions?
peshbandkid replied to SaxPapi101's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
1. Hebron 2. Flower Mound 3. Marcus 4. Wylie 5. Prosper 6. Wylie East 7. Rock Hill 8-12: Plano East, Lewisville, Rockwall, Sachse, McKinney Boyd 13. McKinney 14. Rockwall Heath 15. Plano The bolded section is obviously where I had no confidence to determine. McKinney had Lewisville>PESH>Rockwall, but I know for fact that Plano East still has things to add, and I am confident the same is with Rockwall. Sachse and McKinney Boyd were in the bottom half of finals at Wylie (which is a more UIL oriented sheet,) but Sachse bounched back and I am sure Boyd will improve as well. Outside of that block, I think most things will stay where they are -

Just watched the Hebron performance. I will personally chip in $50 to send them to Grand Nationals and win. -
2022-23 Area C Predictions?
peshbandkid replied to SaxPapi101's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I don’t know what to make of this area outside of the top 3. The Wylie schools looked strong at McKinney, but so did Lewisville, PESH, and Rockwall. Prosper looks good as always, but so does Rock Hill. Sachse and McKinney Boyd have both made strides this season as well. Its a shame this Area can only advance up to 6 bands. -
