  1. We just got back from Cedar Park's show reveal: Icarus, After the Fall Opener Preshow -music from the movie Troy Introduction- Faure's Pavane Opener - Give us This Day 2nd movement - Maslanka Part 2- Ballad - Blackbird, The Beatles One Day I'll Fly Away - Moulin Rouge Closer - King Fishers Catch Fire - John Mackey Dark, powerful, aaggressive, big sound, large on field production.
  2. Leander's brass has been the best it's been in a few years. They will just melt your face. The trumpets and mellos are playing really tight as a section.
  3. Next year, assuming the bands maintain their same director, designer, show writer lineups from this season I can see the top 4 in 5A ending up (in alphabetical order) as Cedar Park Dripping Springs Rouse Weiss Glenn has an outside shot but they need to continue their trajectory. Rouse and Weiss will be riding a very successful year and have great momentum and determination to make good noises in the Dome. Cedar Park will be out with a vengeance after having a season with only being judged in finals once and not being able to get input on changes. Dripping Springs will be back to avenge getting States 2017. 5A is going to be a fun contest year to follow.
  4. ugh... Get it fixed!!
  5. I have issues with the mic'ing at this year's event. Several top bands who mic'd their soloists were using very heavy compression on the mics (limiting dynamic range, increasing perceived loudness which has been proven to equate to more enjoyment by the listener). What's to stop a band from running multiple ORTF stereo set ups in front of the band and broadcasting that through the PA's used for soloists under extremely heavy compression? Nothing. This would increase perceived volume and dramatically affect the emotional response of a crowd and judges. The ability to add depth to the sound of a band with almost imperceptible delays and reverbs would be gigantic. And it can all be set up in a fire and forget mode so that nobody would ever need to even touch it. I am highly attuned to hearing compression and limiting having run large recording studios for years and participating in multiple compressor showdowns. I can identify compressors and get REALLY close to the settings that are used just by hearing it. I think that it needs to come to an end before every band sounds like an FM radio broadcast, lots of noise, no range. I understand why they do it, but I do not believe that it has a place on the field that is any good for the contest. If I were a director and had someone running tech for a band right now I would go HEAVY into mic'ing as all of the boards that bands are using are more than capable of dramatically affecting the outcome. I even saw a few bands with techs running the boards and faders live. This should have been a student, not a staff member at least. Boards should be zeroed out before they arrive on field (but with a computer you can quickly reset them).
  6. #1 draw is a great opportunity to lay down the standard. State has been recently won from the #1 slot by Cedar Park last year. Congrats on finals!
  7. I said the exact same thing to my wife when the finished.
  8. I believe that Vista will win 3A.
  9. Going to the Cedar Park rehearsal this morning then heading down to the Dome.
  10. I prefer the high cam. I like to watch the show as an entire show. Now, if I could choose what to zoom on, then we may have a winner.
  11. I agree that both Hebron or Leander can take that caption. They both sound incredible, not taking anything away from Vandy as I love their balance and power. I think we are going to see a surprise with the new 2-panel finals selections. I see 2 LISD (Leander) bands bringing home medals. All of LISD is rocking this year. There's a great chance to see: Vandy Leander Vista Ridge Cedar Park Rouse second 4 as Panel 1's top 4 is very tough and they will be playing with little to no pressure. Their sound has really matured this year and they are performing at a high level. all play on Saturday night.
  12. As a Cedar Park resident, I will say that is not the case. Cedar Park congratulated CPHS when they won state last year, but they don't acknowledge any school's non-UIL achievements as those are not as easy for the public to grasp or understand. They congratulated the Leander guard when they when the WGI worlds and kicked butt.
  13. As a host band parent, I'm volunteering to work the Region 32 show tomorrow. I hope the rain stays away,
  14. The lemonade was delicious. The circus did well.
  15. Here's a link to the Cedar Park run at TMC. Thanks to the staff and organizers for allowing CP to perform in exhibition. Amazing job by the Cedar Park staff in getting the band out of warm up staging, getting the show arranged, and getting the kids mentally ready to perform in Austin. I saw the scores. It looks like Rouse performed their hearts out. Reagan was impressive. Georgetown was a fun show (how many times do you see a decapitation on the field). youtube . com/watch?v=Eb62L1BFNFU
  16. Waco cancellation was crap. Fortunately Cedar Park still got to play today as exhibition at the Texas Marching Classic in Kelly Reeves Stadium this evening. They looked great.
  17. Vista and Cedar Rodge both look solid right now. Hendrickson has an extremely entertaining show that maybe has gine slightly overboard in the solo department.
  18. It's about darn time. We've been waiting hourse since you've put the cherry on top of Bedford and Conroe.
  19. Just confirmed. Cedar Park's show should leave you in tears on Saturday. Rehearsal left my wife in tears last night. Not just that's pretty tears.....it was that's so sad type of tears.
  20. I'll be there. Gonna miss block one. Going to get breakfast at the Czech Stop instead.
  21. Well, this made me laugh so loud it woke the dog and wife up
  22. I have the same top 5, just in a different order 1. Cedar Park 2. Marcus 3 Round Rock 4. Dripping Springs 5. Hendrickson I would love to see the 5A schools 1-2 but I don't think that's in the cards this year. I see Rock staying ahead of Dripping Springs again this weekend. CP/Marcus should be incredibly close. Not too sure where Marcus' show is but CP doesn't have their closer in yet (it's a big GE closer).
  23. Glenn gets just as much support from LISD as Vandy, CP, Rouse, VR, and Leander. It is an extremely young program. There is not the depth of experience that the other LISD schools have, yet. I saw them two weeks ago and the improvement over last year is fantastic to see. Give them a few years to mature. It's a process that cannot be rushed or faked. Glenn just opened in 2016-2017. They are the next LISD school up. They are following the trajectory as Rouse. In a few years they will be right there. Once they are there the Leander Festival of Bands may be the best district show in all of Texas and will be a must see, as if it isn't already.
  24. Cedar Park is very similar to Leander. Fundraising through both the parents and kids has been a godsend.
