    I'm 100% team Texas. But we don't have any 2A bands partying this weekend in Indy. Norwin winning AA was not unexpected. I'm excited to see how they do in finals. It's pretty awesome for an AA band to qualify on score when in Texas some seasons we can't even get a 3A band to qualify for a Super Regional's finals.

    I do not believe the directors need to change their approach. I think the way BOA judges bands needs to change. Remember this organization is named "Music for All" but it operates as "General Effect For All." I believe all portions of a performance should be weighed equally allowing a band to shoot their shot for the optimum score. The following is copy pasta from MFA's adjudication page. "Similarly, more emphasis has been placed on the effectiveness of the general effect judges than on fine-line perfection of the performance judges. The weight of the numbers places 60% of the value on music and 40% on visual, as well as 60% on general effect and 40% on performance."

    No, you said that the judges were reserving higher scores for later because they aren't accomplished enough to accurately judge a performance without setting a low score baseline for excellence. If this were the case why wouldn't music for all just have the top 6 go first in finals so that they wouldn't need to harshly judge early competitors to save room for higher scores?

    There is no proof of that. No proof in any SR finals. This is a myth that portrays judges as villains and bands that draw early as victims. This a great way for victims to insulate themselves against hard truths.

    This leads me to believe that GE was scored higher on panel 1 in prelims. Should be a fun final.

    This is a slippery slope that I vote we do not go down. Why? Is it just too difficult to achieve these? No. Does it only favor the bands that travel and fund raise? No. Does it create a power creep that bands will not be able to compete with? No. My answer incredibly simple. People are lazy typers. Terribly lazy. I do not want to need to remember what each of the acronyms of these titles is. It's bad enough that we have BOA SA SR, UIL SMBC, BOA GN, etc... Stop introducing acronyms to the Nerd Hall!

    Anyone want to meet up for prefinals lunch or dinner after the award ceremony? It's just me today. My son had to go to college and my wife went to work back in Austin.

    This was my guess as to how they finished prelims. It's not a biased guess. It was a guess based off of 30 years of watching marching bands and the performances put in yesterday.

    I'm not opposed. But winning from the 1st slot is not unheard of. Cedar Park did it in 2017 IIRC.

    Whoa. How bad were Cedar Park and Hendrickson for a review from the crapper for the following band to be mentioned ahead of them?
