Klein Oak announced their 2024 show tonight. It's called "Heartless" and is about what it's like to be the tin man from the Wizard of Oz and longing for what he can't have, which is his heart. No graphics have been made public yet but I'll try and post them when they are.

    The song selections are

My Body is a Cage - Peter Gabriel
What Could Have Been - Sting (from Arcane)
    Symphony No. 5 - Prokofiev
Road to Perdition - Thomas Newman
This is Life - Son Lux (from Everything Everywhere All at Once)
    Human Heart - Jacob Collier

That's correct, and yes we did! It's insane how talented these kids are! While everyone waited in their "groups", you could see the kids shaking hands with schools on either side, and just chatting back and forth. It was so good to see that, as simple as it was. The support, encouragement, understanding, and compassion these kids have for each other, regardless of the team/school, is heartening and inspiring.

I think any slight issues they may be having are certainly influenced by nerves. First of all, it's Dayton. Second of all, this is the first time the entire season they've competed against anyone. They've essentially been giving (judged) exhibition performances the whole season. So, it's like smooth sailing until the world championships as far as nerves go.

Grand Oaks was fantastic this morning!  That score should be more than enough to put them in finals.

    Tomorrow's the day!
I probably won't catch very many guards on Flo tomorrow. Definitely hoping to see most of the competition starting Friday night!

Congratulations to all of the guards that competed this past weekend at the state championships! If your season has ended, an extra special thank you for all of your hard work throughout the season. Hopefully you made some great memories!
Sorry for the delay, I've been unsuccessfully searching for videos on YouTube. 😅
    Dayton in three days!

Should be a great day of color guard!  SA and NA had prelims yesterday.  This is the top 12 in each class.

And congratulations to Hays (!) and Grand Oaks for coming out on top in their respective National A rounds at TCGC State. Not sure why we aren't getting a proper finals round from TCGC, although I'd guess it has something to do with paying for the double panel.

Grand Oaks about a point and a half ahead of everyone else. They'd probably win in finals as well. 2nd through 5th, however, would have been interesting, since they all got practically the same 89.5 score.

I have the 720p versions that Rhythym Walking posted (and had taken down) on YouTube. If anyone else wants them, like this post or message me for the link. (I would post it here, but I love copyright laws and would hate to infringe on them)

Hey everyone! Hope everybody had a great Easter weekend! As we are approaching the championships for WGI, I went ahead and made a schedule for the Texas bands for SA and SO in Texas time! The schedules are massive and so for anyone who doesn't want to have to deal with switching between schedules/time-zones, here's all the times for the Texas guards in SO in SA. The world class schedule is much easier to follow. As for me, I will definitely be watching finals for all three classes and will cover as many groups as I can after my Thursday/Friday classes are finished. I'll be able to catch all the SA guards on Thursday except Prosper and all but the first four groups of SO. Hopefully I'll be back in time for Tarpon, if not I'll miss the first block of SW but will be back for the other 2!  Have no idea what Friday will look like, but we'll know when the time comes. Only a week and a half until the end of the season, which is crazy as it feels like it started last week, but I'm super pumped to see all the guards compete one last time!!

welp i actually ended up being wrong about the rankings of the top tx guards dropping after this weekend. think y'all are right about the "brake pumping" on the scores.
final standings will be released on Tues. grand oaks should still be 5th in A, Marcus will move up to 1st in open, if they're even going lol, why not Coppell too?? (that woulda been a huge shift from not even making semis last yr.) woodlands will actually move up w/ their 3-week old score into a 3rd place tie w/ Tarpon in world class. was really expecting all three of Carmel, fishers, and tarpon to squeak out 90s in finals w/ the double panels. maybe the fact that a few on the panel at mideast had seen tw kept the scores a little lower, two of those judges in particular gave some of the lowest scores at mideast.
    three weeks to go.

Avon with a 93.7 in prelims, which is massive, although at least a little more reasonable with 3 weeks left to go before they score nearly a 100 at Dayton. 😂
The only big issue I have with the SW results is the 87 to 89 gap between Fishers and Carmel. Much too large. Fishers is right up there with Carmel, and maybe even better.
Besides that, the results look fine. Nice to see Bellbrook improve. They have some fans here. 👍

    The Goddess of Guard.
Truly, it's crazy to me that the biggest and best color guard program in the country, consisting of something like 200 students, is taught by only two full-time staff members, and that the director mostly designs and choreographs all FIVE competitive indoor shows herself -- even crazier when you take into account how dominant all 5 guards are. The two at the junior high level are undefeated (again) this season, with the varsity guard only clearly surpassed in talent by PDCMS's varsity (2-year program versus 3-year program). Meanwhile, all 3 guards at the high school level scored above an 85 the weekend of WGI Austin -- rarefied territory for the very beginning of March -- and are either obviously the best in the state in their respective classes, or very close to it.
Unheard of. But then so was taking a non-finalist A guard to World class in less than two seasons right after being hired.
Robbins is a VERY rare talent. And yet I still firmly believe that every guard everywhere would benefit from implementing similar changes to their feeder programs, like she did in 2019. You don't have to be a genius to reap the benefits of that.

As a West Texas native and working here we desperately need something in our area.  CCGC tried but went through a lot of different owners/organizers before it died off.   A lot of the Permian basin groups are going to NTCA/TCGC so there is a market up here, at least for a NTCA sponsored show.   There was a NTCA west event on their calendar in the fall and then that disappeared.

You've got Permian, Odessa, Midland, Legacy, Frenship, San Angelo Central, Lubbock-Cooper, Lubbock, Coronado, and Monterey all with guards and most with at least 2, some 3.  All of them are going to NTCA in DFW and doing very well in their classes, same with San Angelo Central in TCGC.

West Plains has made the dive into NTCA this year.  Canyon has a great winterguard program as well and I know Pecos, Andrews, and some other 4As have guards.  One NTCA sponsored event a little farther west in Abilene/San Angelo/etc.  would potentially do very well.   And we would love it.

ill post twhs on yt later. im tryna count the # of tosses first, it's SO friggin' hard LOL. theres too much going on, im having to slow everything down. just got thru the opener fast section. 275 tosses so far, prob an undercount. includes 35 rifle exchanges, 13 rolls (dive rolls and sit rolls), 12 backbends caught at port, 7 double turns under low tosses, which is harder, a front walkover, and an illusion w/ the inverted hand catch.
don't know if i can keep this up. it's like kinda fun but also not really lol.

Awe, thank you! Having traveled with them for the last 4 years I know they love when they get to interact and talk to other groups at the hotels.  They are the sweetest and nicest girls (as most of the colorguard groups I’ve ever encountered are!) I miss traveling with them and being with them this year since my daughter graduated last May.

In my opinion from the last few seasons of watching up close, I think the numbers just don’t fully mean anything until that week in Dayton- they do give some insight to where they are, but there are too many variables to compare them side by side through the season.  Until the shows are seen by the same eyes on the same day… I don’t think comparing numbers across the nation is fully accurate.  ‘22 had something special. ‘23 was great, but didn’t have that special moment to it… ‘24 I feel like it has the special piece to it that was missing last year.  If the girls can clean it up, Avon might not be catchable, but everyone else is still within reach.  No matter what-  Dayton will be so incredible to watch!!
