  1. Regional contest and Area contest will be here before we know it! I saw on the uil area F site a performance order draw of 31 possible bands. And from previous posts I got that it is one state spot for every 5 bands at area, of which the bands got a div 1 rating at region contest to get to area. Really hoping for at least 4 spots or more this year for area F! Looks like 6 would be our max but probably unlikely. Correct me in this if I'm wrong or misinformed. I do not claim to be an expert in any way. Just a hopeful parent!
  2. Anyone knowledge about all these bands have finals predictions? Last contest weekend before region contests I believe.
  3. So is the individual visual based on the technique and skill level of the individual marching performers? Aledo got scored pretty low there in prelims and curious as to what's involved there.
  4. Now that I have been to a competition I will say I love Wakeland's rocketship! And the effect when they bring the moon tarp down around it is so cool.
  5. Seems like I saw a performance schedule for this comp posted but I can't seem to find it. Anyone know where to find it or want to share it here?
  6. We made it to the first 6 of finals and wow! The Colony has a really fun show that the crowd enjoyed. I'm partial but I thought Aledo and Uncaged was super and intense. Berkner had great props and colors and an entertaining show. Loved their alien based guard! Forney was a very pretty presentation and sound and Keller Central despite some technical issues looked and sounded great as well and love their theme. Wakeland was fabulous. Great theme and the rocket use throughout the show was stellar. Out of the 10 in finals 4 were 5A schools. Being a 5A state year...it's gearing up to be an epic battle to get there I think!
  7. HEB Marching is on Twitter if anyone is interested in. Quick recaps of each band and pictures. Check out HEB Marching
  8. I think the 6-12 spots could go so many different ways and hard to predict this being the first contest for many. Who gets those last few finals spots will be interesting to see for sure.
  9. Just that I hope my kiddos band makes it there!
  10. Thank you! I do recall that now and it makes me nervous just thinking about it. Eagerly awaiting upcoming marching contests and full show productions to see what this season brings. Just starting to reveal movement 3 at our halftime show and no props yet for my kiddos school so really no clue how they will do just yet. Guess time will tell! Lots of great 5A bands to contend with. My Junior is hopeful for another (and last for him) trip to the State contest.
  11. I know there is a formula of sorts but...I'm having hard time recalling. How many bands make it to area and then from there, to state?
  12. Lots of great bands for the 1st competition of the season for many of these bands. I just hope my kiddos 5A band makes finals so I can attend as I won't be able to be there for prelims. Going to be tough but fingers are crossed!
  13. Thankful Birdville cancelled early. Newbie band parent question... Do these competitions ever get rescheduled or is that just too tough to do?
  14. There is a live blog with great commentary from start to finish: http://www.musicforall.org/blog/live-blog/live-blog-dallas-ft-worth-regional
  15. For what it is worth... Every one of the top 10 bands had at least 1 judge rank them top 5. That to me says there was a lot of subjectivity. But that's expected and will always be the case. They were all fabulous! I'm excited my freshman kiddo got this experience and hope in 2 years he'll be back. They upped their results in finals by two spots from the previous state contest so hopefully will continue to improve.
  16. Guessing they just announce the finalists at the awards presentation? And then post the final results online?
  17. I know nothing about bands and what makes them good or final worthy but happy to hear it was well received. I'm an Aledo parent and can't be there and just on the edge of my seat here at home. Following the live blog and twitter! Ha Ha. So dang proud of these kids and their program. Tough competition! I have really enjoyed the competitions. So much talent out there and the shows are just all so unique and different and just amazing!
  18. Thank you so much! Hats off to you veteran band parents! This will be my one and only band kid sadly. Kind of wish I had more to come. Definitely enjoying it and will soak it all in these next 3 1/2 years. I am hoping to volunteer more next year. It definitely takes a village to get these shows on and off the field in an organized and timely manner. Job situation right now does not allow me too. Sure wish I could make it to the state competition but that too is not happening. And yes, I agree...the band kiddos really do rock! And I Imagine I'll bawl like a baby when the time for all this to end comes. Ha Ha. I'll probably be more emotional about it than the actual band kiddo!
  19. It's really interesting to me how much can change from prelims to finals. Especially when competition is very tight. In this case, Aledo and Richland seemed to have the #1 and #2 spots locked up (swapped spots from prelims to finals) and Birdville was looking good for #3, but almost lost it to Centennial and/or Azle. Just a 1 and 2 point difference. They really do have to make every performance their best or suffer the consequences. I was really impressed with all the bands in the finals yesterday. And I know some really great ones missed out on even making finals as well. Kudos to all these kids. I'm just a freshman parent, but I'm quickly becoming a marching band addict! This is so fun! Ha Ha.
  20. I show the results of finals in order (based on total of ranking order by judges so lower better) were: Richland (8), Aledo (10), Birdville (21), Centennial (22), Azle (23), Colleyville Heritage (26), Granbury (30). Richland looked and sounded amazing. Aledo was solid and strong. Birdville was great but I really really liked Centennial's show...super clean and great drumline. I also really liked Colleyville Heritage from a visual and entertainment value.
  21. Should be interesting to see if it is as windy tomorrow as it has been today and how that impacts the shows, props, etc. There was a little sleet reported just a bit ago. Going to be a cold night of halftime performances tonight followed by a cold day of performances tomorrow as well!
  22. I can't make predictions as I am new to this whole marching band thing as a freshman parent, but have seen some of these bands in competitions this year or via you tube videos and really going to be tough competition. Best of luck to all competing. One thing is for sure....all these marching band kids work their tails off and should be proud!
  23. Since there are just 19 bands, does that mean only 3 will advance to state?
