  1. I think those judges had a very very tough job. So many stellar bands. I was prepared for anything last night. And a whole new judging panel today so also prepared for anything today! Kudos to ALL the bands that performed yesterday and best of luck to those that have the privilege of performing again today.
  2. It's here! Today is going to be a great day regardless of results. Top 34 bands in Texas 5A! Good luck to all these amazing kids and directors!
  3. BOA does score different than UIL so you just never know. I'm only going to make it to the finals performance (if made) so really really nervous but hopeful! I definitely think these 5A BOA San Antonio bands are some of the best but there are others not at BOA that are contenders for finals as well. My heart may not survive Monday night finals announcements.
  4. You don't have to do the $39. It's $20 for both prelims and finals. Or $12 for just one or the Other. Although I can't quite seem to find what differentiates the pro package....hmmmmm. Maybe that one is all of it. 1A, 3A, 5A
  5. From UIL site: Live StreamBOX5-TV powered by BOX5 Media has contracted with UIL to provide live streaming for the event. Link available on uil site. I watched it this way in 2017. Not too costly and nice they have this available! $12 for prelims only $20 for both prelims and finals. https://www.uiltexas.org/music/marching-band/state
  6. I noticed that too. Kind of heartbreaking for Granbury and Chisholm Trail who were top 4 in prelims but then 5th and 7th in finals. And 6th to 1st for Burleson Centennial....wow. But truly any of these 10 finalist bands had a shot at top 4. That extra state spot would have been nice. Just one more division 1 rating at region would have allowed that. Congratulations to all the bands. Fierce competition!
  7. Too nervous to make predictions. Too many awesome bands! Not enough state spots that is for sure. Good luck everyone!!!
  8. I'm not even in the loop for that area but that is just heartbreaking for those students..will be interesting to hear how that happened. I really question the logic of an automatic 2 rating. Why not just the penalty? Would they have still received a 1 with just the penalty deducted?
  9. Would have been great to have 5 spots. Seriously some great shows in Area F. But 4 is better than 3 like in 2017.. finding the positive!
  10. Actually now that the prelim recap is posted it look like Boswell then Saginaw then Legacy had the next highest 5A scores at Birdville after the four 5A finalists. It really is anybody's game.
  11. It looks like Burleson Centennial placed higher than Colleyville Heritage at the Mansfield Preview of Champions but Colleyville placed higher than Centennial at Birdville. And while Centennial placed higher than Aledo at Birdville in finals, Aledo placed higher than Centennial in Birdville prelims and at BOA DFW. And Colleyville placed Higher than Aledo at Birdville but that's the only contest they've been in together. So these 3 are neck and neck it seems. I would say these are the front runners for Area F but Birdville and probably Azle and Granbury are also in the mix. I think this should be a very good area contest! Please let there be at least 4 state spots! They are all amazing shows!
  12. Will anybody following this thread be there to post the prelim results as they are announced?
  13. I thought their show was really nice as well and that scares me a little bit because the band I'm affiliated with will be competing against them in the area contest! Ha ha. Actually I think all (12 I think) of these 5A bands in this competition are area F and will be duking it out for a state spot. Eagerly awaiting the prelim results from home and hoping to make it back for finals.
  14. I love that this contest is not all big dogs. So many great bands and all these kids and directors work hard to put out a great show!
  15. Wow.... super impressive and helpful! I think you are missing a few italicized state finalists from 2017 5A though. Might want to check those.
  16. Just looked at the UIL map and it looks like Mansfield ISD is Region 5 which indeed part of Area F along with Region 30 and 31. Legacy must be the only 5A Mansfield school.
  17. I've not seen most of these shows so not comfortable predicting but a little history from 2017 may be helpful. In 2017 the 3 bands that advanced to state were Aledo, Birdville, and Richland. Those that were in finals at area in addition to these 3 (did not advance to state though) were Azle, Colleyville Heritage, Granbury and Centennial. At state Richland was 6th (finals), Aledo 8th (finals), Birdville 16th (prelims). I don't see Richland in the draw order? Maybe they are now 6A. I also don't see Legacy in the 2017 mix and have no knowledge of their history.
  18. Regional contest and Area contest will be here before we know it! I saw on the uil area F site a performance order draw of 31 possible bands. And from previous posts I got that it is one state spot for every 5 bands at area, of which the bands got a div 1 rating at region contest to get to area. Really hoping for at least 4 spots or more this year for area F! Looks like 6 would be our max but probably unlikely. Correct me in this if I'm wrong or misinformed. I do not claim to be an expert in any way. Just a hopeful parent!
  19. Anyone knowledge about all these bands have finals predictions? Last contest weekend before region contests I believe.
  20. So is the individual visual based on the technique and skill level of the individual marching performers? Aledo got scored pretty low there in prelims and curious as to what's involved there.
  21. Now that I have been to a competition I will say I love Wakeland's rocketship! And the effect when they bring the moon tarp down around it is so cool.
  22. Seems like I saw a performance schedule for this comp posted but I can't seem to find it. Anyone know where to find it or want to share it here?
  23. We made it to the first 6 of finals and wow! The Colony has a really fun show that the crowd enjoyed. I'm partial but I thought Aledo and Uncaged was super and intense. Berkner had great props and colors and an entertaining show. Loved their alien based guard! Forney was a very pretty presentation and sound and Keller Central despite some technical issues looked and sounded great as well and love their theme. Wakeland was fabulous. Great theme and the rocket use throughout the show was stellar. Out of the 10 in finals 4 were 5A schools. Being a 5A state year...it's gearing up to be an epic battle to get there I think!
