We must be in different circles… across the state I have heard quite the critique on BOA these past 2-3 yrs

This^ not to mention the time between contests... This makes me want a "TMEA Honor Band"-style nationwide contest with blind judging on video recordings of bands. That would require the bands to adhere to "no defining features" in their show but that should be something easy to prepare for. (no W set TWHS!)

Ugh Pearland has such absolutely PHENOMENAL marchers and players!!! WOW! that being said…I cannot wait for the day they change designers…

Wow Bridgeland! “Rough” is the last word I’d use to describe that. What a stunning show! I missed prelims so was super excited to watch finals after the prelims results. Keep it up and have so much fun at Grand Nats!

Really excited to see Bridgeland, JET and 7L tomorrow. When is Cy Woods’ first show? TMC? it seems like about 6-8 bands have all the parts for a state-bound show. For only 4-5 spots? This will be exciting!

I think everyone is pretty confident in LISD taking all three medals here this year. I'm really curious who will take that 4th (and last?) spot to state. I'm really enjoying Wylie East and Rock Hill this season and haven't seen enough of the McKinney's yet. I'm sure Prosper will be up there too though.

While I do quite agree with these rankings for this point in the season, I hope our friends at Clements can take the feedback they received this weekend to strengthen their chances for late season success!

I do think Elkins is much improved and I really enjoyed watching them at BOA Conroe. They have a great show for UIL and if they can clean it up, I'm sure they'll be pleased with their placement.

I was actually quite impressed with the couple early season videos I've seen. I think they're sort of sticking with a very digestible theme done all out with stage elements. That being said, I think their performance captions are higher this year at this time than last year. I think their show is called "The Factory" or something along those lines? I'm not a show designer (yet 🤞) but I would've taken this show in a direction that talks about The Jungle by Upton Sinclair (a pivotal book in the beginning of the 20th c. that discusses meat factory conditions). Perhaps a little too close to home with the Boar's Head issues recently 😕 In any case, I think they're doing a fantastic job and should do really well here!

What do you mean scored differently? HEB uses BOA sheets I’m pretty sure.

I’d put a bit of an analysis in the scores from Conroe over in the Area I thread. If I remember correctly, they use BOA sheets here? Will be a cool second look at these programs from that angle leading up to Area

That’s really tough to say as I haven’t been able to see all of the top 15ish shows for this area. Plus, when I did see them it was veryyyy early season. Would love for them to be back in finals though!

I saw a clip a few weeks ago and yeah I was really pretty impressed!

All of this to say, I don't know that this contest is always a great indicator for placements at Area. In fact, placements shift on average +/- 1 spot between contests.
