  1. "y'all have talked yourself up enough" I assume you are implying that it's just "Haltom people" talking up the show. Trust me...this is not the case. I have no affiliation with Haltom but I recently saw the show. This is not like anything Haltom has done before. This is a "Marcus-like" show...very musical and the music is well done. Deep tones and technical. There are a couple of woodwind features that need to be cleaned up a bit but that could have just been the performance I saw. I get that there are folks on here who just talk up their own bands but I'm not doing that...this year's version of Haltom is good. Really good. Better than Tarpon or Wando? We'll see....that's why they have the contests.
  2. Final schedule is up. 19 bands http://www.uilmusic31.org/uploads/7/4/1/7/74170681/area_f_5a_contest_schedule_2017.pdf Centennial HS -10:15 Newman Smith - 10:30 Richland HS - 10:45 Boswell HS - 11:00 Corsicana HS - 11:15 Birdville HS - 11:30 Temple HS - 11:45 ---Break--- Grapevine HS - 1:00 Aledo HS - 1:15 Brewer HS - 1:30 Colleyville Heritage HS - 1:45 Saginaw HS - 2:00 Crowley HS - 2:15 ---Break--- Burleson HS - 2:45 Granbury HS - 3:00 Waco HS - 3:15 Chisholm Trail HS - 3:30 Azle HS - 3:45 Joshua - 4:00 Awards: 4:30 Finals begin - 7:00 Awards: 9:00
  3. The region contest dates for Region 8 say Oct 21. I guess that information was wrong because the Area F schedule is out. 24 bands so if all participate, 4 will advance to state. Let the predictions begin!! http://www.uilmusic31.org/uploads/7/4/1/7/74170681/area_f_5a_draw_order.pdf
  4. And they're worth.....every.....penny. More valuable to than football coaches, in my opinion.
  5. If there are only two bands advancing, I see Richland and Aledo moving on. 24 or 25 bands in Area F so there could be more but Richland is strong and improving and Aledo had a very nice showing at HEB. Watch out for Burleson Centennial...I really like their show. They need some cleaning but they have a good sound. 2 bands: Richland, Aledo 3 bands: Richland, Aledo and Burleson Centennial 4 bands: Richland, Aledo, Burleson Centennial and Birdville
  6. Yup.....all the other bands need to be on notice. Haltom's about to make some noise in Atlanta!!
  7. Agreed....I loved their battery feature. I didn't hear Azle but they had to have been insanely good to beat Centennial.
  8. Winner should be Richland, Haltom or Trinity My gut tells me Richland or Haltom wins with Trinity in 3rd place Then it's a race for 4th-10th.
  9. Other 5A schools don't!!! You guys are fantastic....best of luck to you in 6A!!
  10. I'm right there with you!!! I have a few years left but when my kids are done, I'll continue to volunteer for the band...our school always needs parents. We have volunteers who haven't had kids in school for 5, 10, 15 years! They just love to volunteer and help the band. I love music and I love watching our kids excel. Why wouldn't someone want to be around these kids?
  11. Love the Haltom Band! My response was more about Richland being left off of a list of bands that they had beaten recently. Trust me, I know how close Haltom and Richland are in talent...both are at Broken Arrow and Mansfield this year so it will be great to see some head-to-head competition again. BISD is much better when all three bands are good....looks to be that way again this year!! Best of luck!
  12. Yeah....Richland had a couple of down years so I could see why they would fall off of the radar. They came back last year with a vengeance, though.
  13. Richland deserves some respect here.... Richland finished 2nd to Marcus at HEB....beat Wakeland and Haltom there, too. In fact, Richland beat Haltom at HEB and St. Louis. Results last year HEB - 2nd Tournament of Champions (Carrollton) - 2nd Lone Star Preview (The Woodlands) - 1st BOA St Louis - 7th
  14. Looking at their calendar, it looks like Richland has another contest that week....there will be a new champion this year.
  15. I'm just a band dad but my suggestion would be to contact several of the band directors with established programs to see if they would be willing to give any guidance on starting a marching program. Most of the marching bands in Texas have their own websites with contact information for each director. It might be best to start with a smaller band program but below are some larger bands that I know have sites. Haltom High School (one of the best in the state) Richland High School (Really good band and very good drumline!! You should look up some of their videos on Youtube) LD Bell (one of the best marching bands in the state) Keller High (one of the best in the state) Keller Central (another really good band) Another place to look would be Texas Music Educators Association. Someone there might be able to point you in the right direction. https://www.tmea.org/about/contact Best of luck!!! It would be an incredible sight to see a program you started at a U.S. contest one of these days!!
  16. To your point above, perhaps a better description would be a band that was "under the radar" and popped on, or back on, the scene....if so, that band is Richland in 2016. Recent struggles....fell off of everyone's radar...then BANG, there they are again with top 2 finishes in 3 contests and an 8th place finish in a very difficult St. Louis super-regional.
  17. Is there a way to see which bands are AAAA, AAA, AA, etc?
  18. Full results are posted on the TWS site....Richland had the highest score in prelims, too. Another strong showing...they have some cleaning to do but they appear to be peaking at the right time. http://www.twhsband.org/event-schedule.html
  19. Only 4 Texas bands at BOA St Louis this year...all three Birdville ISD schools are attending. Some really, really, really good schools showing up this year...Jenks, Owasso, Broken Arrow, Blue Spring, etc. Best of luck to the Texas schools! 20. Richland is no longer in 6A area B...they moved down to 5A this year and will compete in state next year.
  21. How about Richland with two 2nd place finishes in two weeks? Both times winning best GE and percussion. It was basically a race between Richland and Duncanville. Both had incredible shows....Duncanville was just a little bit better. Excellent job by both bands. Congrats to Duncanville...they had a great show!!
  22. Richland isn't going this year....they won the Percussive Arts Society's Ensemble competition and were invited to perform at PASIC in Indianapolis.
  23. Agreed....Richland was 2nd at HEB and Frisco Centennial was 4th. I haven't seen Duncanville this year but they are always very competitive. Looking forward to it!!
  24. Wow....that's the first I've seen of the scoring and you're right, they were right on the heels of Marcus in music. It was an incredible showing by Richland after a couple of very tough years. BISD was represented very well by both Haltom and Richland at HEB. The next few weeks are going to be very exciting for the Rebels.
