  1. I probably would've had them higher, but all of the bands in front of them have exceptionally talented percussion programs, so I'm not too bothered by it.
  2. Flower Mound's percussion scores were what knocked them down below Marcus. There was an ordinal gap of 10 in that caption alone, while overall they were separated by an ordinal gap of 5. I think they will be just fine for Grand Nationals.
  3. Hebron has broken the curse! No longer 2nd at San Antonio, now no longer second at UIL State!
  4. 6A Finals Results 6A State Champion - Hebron H.S., TX 6A Silver Medalist - Vandegrift H.S., TX 6A Bronze Medalist - Marcus H.S., TX 4. Flower Mound H.S., TX 5. Coppell H.S., TX 6. Ronald Reagan H.S., TX 7. Cedar Ridge H.S., TX 8. Claudia Taylor Johnson H.S., TX 9. Keller H.S., TX 10. Westlake H.S., TX 11. Vista Ridge H.S., TX 12. Southlake Carroll H.S., TX
  5. It's nice to see a full retreat again after so long! These students deserve to have it
  6. Yes, look for BOX5's channel
  7. CTJ's full show is about 12 and a half minutes long. They cut out the preshow and part of the closer at area and in prelims to stay within the UIL time limits but finals has none.
  8. UIL and BOA rubrics are not the same. No two competitions will ever be the same results-wise, and assuming that props or the lack thereof is what gives certain bands a higher score instead of attributing that to the performances of the students themselves is frankly disrespectful to the hard work they put in. BOA judges are highly experienced in their fields and they aren't going to give extra points for a band that has more props. I don't know what else to tell you.
  9. Flower Mound's music scores are a bit concerning right now. Really hope they're able to fine tune them with another run in the Alamodome before they head to Indianapolis.
  10. It would be without a doubt the best show they have taken there (360 and Among the Stars were FANTASTIC but Penstriped is on a different level for me). Broken Arrow this year though is looking incredible, the best they've looked since 2016. To see those two go up against each other like in 2015 would be magnificent.
  11. I don't think anyone is surprised by Hebron's lead right now. They're peaking at the perfect time. Man do I wish this show was going to Grand Nationals. Vandegrift and Flower Mound was who I had rounding out the medals going into this as well.
  12. Claudia Taylor Johnson has always been a unique program in the state of Texas with their approach to show design. They very much like designing nontraditional shows that entertain the audience with very difficult drill, free flowing choreography, and relatively modern music selections. They're one of the top programs in the state but their designs are often pretty divisive amongst people that think they try to do too much and people (like me) that appreciate the risks they take. They're definitely a more BOA oriented band but they've had a lot of success in UIL recently so I expect them to place well tomorrow (especially with their show this year which I absolutely adore).
  13. Based off that that I would hazard a guess that Pearland and Seven Lakes were 1st and 2nd out respectively Edit: Cypress Woods could also have been the band from Area I
  14. Yes, it would've been great to see Pearland or Seven Lakes in finals. But both did fantastic at the super regional and can hold their heads high with their seasons.
  15. And a HUGE congratulations to Southlake Carroll on making finals!!! This is their first time at state in over 20 years, and making finals in such a stacked contest is INCREDIBLE!
  16. 6A State Finalists (in performance order) 2:15 PM - Ronald Reagan H.S., TX 2:30 PM - Cedar Ridge H.S., TX 2:45 PM - Vandegrift H.S., TX 3:00 PM - Coppell H.S., TX 3:15 PM - Flower Mound H.S., TX 3:30 PM - Vista Ridge H.S., TX 4:00 PM - Hebron H.S., TX 4:15 PM - Claudia Taylor Johnson H.S., TX 4:30 PM - Marcus H.S., TX 4:45 PM - Keller H.S., TX 5:00 PM - Westlake H.S., TX 5:15 PM - Southlake Carroll H.S., TX Draw is totally random, not a bottom half/top half split
  17. It would be great for Westlake to make finals after those electronics issues they had at San Antonio. Being the first band out by 0.1 points must have been hard on the students there.
  18. Ronald Reagan set the record for highest score at the San Antonio Super Regional in 2019 with Secret World (97.30). That show used zero props. I promise you judges are not shallow enough to give extra points to a band because of some pretty props.
  19. I'm not going to be able to catch the rest of prelims or finals tomorrow. If anyone caught a recording of Flower Mound my inbox is open 😀
  20. Again I have to disagree with this idea that props are what set bands apart from each other. I don't deny that money plays a role in the marching environment, but it is not the reason that the bands at the top are where they are. Those bands got there because of the incredible talent of the students at those programs and the dedication of the boosters to support them. Look at Ronald Reagan, who in the past several years have been considered one of the best bands in the country yet have used zero props. Their 2019 production is one of the best shows this state has ever seen and it was built solely off the abilities of the students there. Props are cool to look at, but judges will not be swayed simply by the presence of them. All it takes is hard work and dedication from the students, the boosters, and everyone involved to build success within a program.
  21. Pending the UIL State results, I think Flower Mound is probably still the best chance for the Eagle to stay in Texas. The design of that show is unbelievably well done and really does create a world of Seuss. That said, CTJ and the Woodlands were very impressive this past weekend, and I can see either crashing the party in the top 3 spots. I'm leaning towards CTJ as the most likely to do so just based off their strong GE scores at San Antonio, though they'll have to clean up those music scores to really have a run at the Eagle. They sounded fantastic and I love them like I always do, but I do admit at times they sounded a little unfocused and blasting. If they can control their sound more and not have any stick outs individually then I don't see a reason why they can't medal or even win. The Woodlands blew me away in finals, I was not expecting them to come out with so much energy. The show is super fun and the performance levels of those students is incredible. I can't wait for next weekend!
  22. Respectfully, I disagree. Of the finalists here all of them had significant portions of their show where they marched with fairly difficult drill and certainly a difficult music book. More than a minute to be sure. I do understand where you’re coming from with the idea that BOA shows are seemingly more about the theatrics than the fundamentals of marching, but I think the beauty of it is that bands are free to create their own productions based on their own visions. Hebron had one of the more traditional shows in the state yet they just gave one of the best performances we’ve seen in some time. Vandegrift is right up there with them in that sense.
  23. Reagan’s strength is in their visual program so those music results definitely have me scratching my head. They had a much better run than prelims to be fair.
  24. The gap between 13th and 8th was 1.32 points. Those bands were so incredibly tight that honestly I don't think Vista Ridge did anything wrong. They had a fantastic finals run that just fell shy of some of the other bands. They will be in good shape for Grand Nationals.
  25. Cutoff for finals: 14. Pearland H.S., TX 88.45 ------------------- 15. Westlake H.S., TX 88.35 16. Seven Lakes H.S., TX 88.20 17. Round Rock H.S., TX 87.45 18. James Bowie H.S., TX 86.40 19. Lake Travis H.S., TX 86.40 20. Westwood H.S., TX 86.25
