  1. Also, something missing in this argument: Where do you gove credit for difficulty? I have seen many people argue that in UIL judging it is all about clean marching and clean music. That can only be true to a point, otherwise there is no incentive for (non-BOA) bands to do anything other than simple drill and simple music. I am not saying McCallum's show was either, but DS's show is clearly significantly more difficult in terms of both drill and music. This is nothing against McCallum. I have seen their show four times now and thoroughly enjoy it. I find myself rooting for them because they are always so solid and are clearly working with fewer resources than many of the bands they compete against. Even if it is not in the rubric that UIL judges use, however, there is no realistic way for the difficulty of the undertaking to NOT have an effect of the scores. And, having said all of that I still feel that DS was musically stronger than McCallum. Significantly.
  2. Scott Coulson - Mesquite Greg Dick - Friendswood James Hudson - Arizona State U Albert Lo - UT Rio Grande Valley Tom Shine - Duncanville
  3. And it's LISD + Dripping Springs.
  4. It really should stay that way for Finals. Those 5 really stand above the others.
  5. I am really surprised Bryan and Seguin made it in over Georgetown.
  6. 22 bands in 4A last year vs 31 in 5A this year. That's a 2 1/2 hour difference. Just dumb.
  7. Oh, it's not a typo. Go to the UIL state marching page and they have posted the prelims schedule with all of the 1A bands assignrd times, as well as the 5A bands that had Area on Saturday. And yeah, 1A should be held the same day as 4A, not 5A.
  8. Has anybody looked at the schedule? There are 31 slots and due to the fact that they are holding the 1A contest the same day, Finals don't even start until 10:00. Holy crap that is a late night.
  9. Just FYI, it was never supposed to be at Kelly Reeves.
  10. So what if a band decides they can't come perform due to the change of days and not all 25 bands compete? Do we still get 5 slots?
  11. Looks like Monday now.
  12. Area D will NOT be held on Sunday. They are changing it again.
  13. Yes, D has postponed. Mon or Tues - to be announced later.
  14. Grrrrr.....Area D.......grrrrr
  15. I really hope sanity prevails on Friday
  16. Oh, God, please let Area D do the same.
  17. Slotting is an issue in BOA judging as well. Are there any marching band competitions out there where it is not an issue? If so, I'd love to know. This is just a frustration with judging something so involved and subjective. I am going to feel horrible for our band (Vista) if it bites us in the ****.
  18. Hallelujah! I will go ahead and put in my prediction: LISD x 4 + Dripping Springs
  19. What happens if Saturday is a complete washout? Or even if all 25+ bands don't manage to get in a Prelims performance?
  20. Even better. 25 bands feels pretty certain.
  21. Cool. Very optimistic we get to 25.
