  1. Have a picture of the recap I'll post when I get home. 1st - Canyon 2nd - Plainview Canyon swept first. Needless to say I am a VERY proud alum right now. First time at state since the move up to 5A(4A before) when they went in 2006. First time since 2005 for Plainview.
  2. Here at the Area A 5A Central Zone contest, halfway through. Chilly, slight breeze but better than what's going on south of here for sure. Abilene Cooper the definite standout from the first half, second about to begin.
  3. Yup, came through on Wednesday night, and as I said it was really nasty. 64 and partly cloudy in Odessa tomorrow, should be nice. Seriously though, competitions or not, stay safe everyone!
  4. Based on what I've seen: 1) Avon/Carmel 2) Avon/Carmel -------------------- 3) Blue Springs/Homestead/Marian Catholic 4) Blue Springs/Homestead/Marian Catholic 5) Blue Springs/Homestead/Marian Catholic -------------------- 6) Castle/Center Grove/Franklin/Lake Central/Lawrence Township/O'Fallon/Prospect 7) Castle/Center Grove/Franklin/Lake Central/Lawrence Township/O'Fallon/Prospect 8) Castle/Center Grove/Franklin/Lake Central/Lawrence Township/O'Fallon/Prospect 9) Castle/Center Grove/Franklin/Lake Central/Lawrence Township/O'Fallon/Prospect 10) Castle/Center Grove/Franklin/Lake Central/Lawrence Township/O'Fallon/Prospect 11) Castle/Center Grove/Franklin/Lake Central/Lawrence Township/O'Fallon/Prospect 12) Castle/Center Grove/Franklin/Lake Central/Lawrence Township/O'Fallon/Prospect ------------------- 13) Ben Davis/Carroll/Columbus North/Greenwood/Penn/Richland 14) Ben Davis/Carroll/Columbus North/Greenwood/Penn/Richland 15) Ben Davis/Carroll/Columbus North/Greenwood/Penn/Richland 16) Ben Davis/Carroll/Columbus North/Greenwood/Penn/Richland 17) Ben Davis/Carroll/Columbus North/Greenwood/Penn/Richland 18) Ben Davis/Carroll/Columbus North/Greenwood/Penn/Richland I think within those groupings anything could happen. I feel confident those groupings will remain those groupings. The 6th - 12th one is the fun one, it was INCREDIBLY close last year, lots of bands on similar levels. I think it's safe to say Avon and Carmel will be the top 2. The real question to me is who lands in 3rd. Three bands also on similar levels, Blue Springs has been hot out the gate this year. Homestead is always a fantastic program, and of course Marian is Marian. I have Richland on the bubble, after the 12th or so it drops off some. MAYBE if they've cleaned and enhanced in the past few weeks, they can squeeze in.
  5. If it's the same cold front that came through the panhandle yesterday, eek. Constant heavy rain, wind, and even some small tornado touch downs..........we got about 2 inches within an hour.
  6. I'm going to the 5A Central Zone in Odessa, looking like the only part of Texas that won't be getting poured on.
  7. Some info on the Area A contests for helping out your predictions. 5As are one and done, no finals, just prelims. Central Zone advances 2 bands, and the Eastern/Central advance 1 I believe. 2A is 10 in finals, and 4 advance. Schedules: Area A Western Zone: Area A Central Zone, times might not be correct, but order and break are. Still checking on that. 11:40 - Lubbock Cooper 11:55 - Hereford 12:10 - Randall 12:25 - Plainview 12:40 - Abilene Cooper 12:55 - San Angelo Lakeview BREAK 1:25 - Lubbock 1:40 - Caprock 1:55 - Dumas 2:10 - Canyon 2:25 - Palo Duro Area A Eastern Zone: 1. Boswell High School 2. Rider High School 3. Wichita Falls High School 4. Azle High School 5. Brewer High School 6. Denton High School 7. Chisholm Trail High School 8. Saginaw High School Area A 2A Contest: Dick Bivins Stadium - Amarillo 10:00am - Wellington 10:15am - Vega 10:30AM - McCamey 10:45am - Booker 11:00am - Irion County 11:15am - Seagraves 11:30am - Sudan 11:45am - New Deal LUNCH 12:45pm - Van Horn 1:00pm - Hale Center 1:15pm - Panhandle 1:30pm - Abernathy 1:45pm - West Texas 2:00pm - Stratford 2:15pm - Claude BREAK 2:45pm - Sundown 3:00pm - Forsan 3:15pm - Wheeler 3:30pm - Floydada 3:45pm - Tahoka 4:00pm - Canadian 10 in finals, 4 advance.
  8. I *really* enjoyed that second clip of Cypress Falls. They sound great.
  9. It's official, Leander's my favorite of 2015. FloMo/Hebron might sneak up there when I see their full shows, but right now. YES.
  10. I remember competing against Azle/Boswell/Saginaw/ect. at Area in high school. Great programs. Chisholm Trail in particular seems to be having a great season. Boswell always comes to play in state years for sure, they've been right on the brink of finals the last two go arounds. Azle's always a solid choice. Early season scores at BOA Arlington and others seem lower this year. Saginaw's solid always. Haven't seen any of the other schools. If I had to pick, I'd go with Boswell personally.
  11. I think part of it is the fact that the Area D bands (and the other shows that are talked about a lot) all have high quality videos available on a regular basis. I personally don't do a lot of speculation and talk about what I have actually seen. If you have anything on Forney, I'd love to see it. They've been competing well, but other than that, not much to go off of. Wish them the best in the rest of the season. I don't think there's any ill will/lack of interest or anything like that. Just a lot less to go off of.
  12. Based on what I have seen, I would seriously bet that's in reverse order.
  13. Pending results from Abiline Cooper and San Angelo Lake View, looks like Area A Central Zone will be sending 2 bands to state in 5A. Thinking about making the trip down to Odessa next week. Should be a nice contest, can think of 4 or so fighting for those 2 spots.
  14. So it's region day, figured it's a good idea to have a thread where all the results are posted and we can look at how many are advancing from each area! I would do all regions.............but that's a lot of typing. So instead, I'll do Area A, and you can do whatever areas you are from/want to do. Will update throughout the day. Region 1: 1A: Miami - 2 Nazareth - 2 *White Deer - 1* 2A: *Booker - 1* Boys Ranch - 4 *Canadian - 1* Clarendon - 3 *Claude - 1* Gruver - 2 Memphis - 3 *Panhandle - 1* Sunray - 4 *Stratford - 1* *Vega - 1* *Wellington - 1* *West Texas - 1* *Wheeler - 1* 3A: Childress - 3 Dimmitt - 3 Friona - 2 Highland Park - 2 River Road - 4 *Sanford Fritch - 1* Spearman - 2 *Tulia - 1* 5A: *Canyon - 1* *Caprock - 1* *Dumas - 1* *Hereford - 1* *Palo Duro - 1* *Randall - 1* Region 2: Region 16: A: Anton - Crosbyton - Farwell - Floydada - Jayton Girard - O'Donnell - Petersburg - Ropes - AA: Abernathy - Albany - Bovina - Hale Centery - Hawley - Lockney - Morton - New Deal - Olton - Plains - Ralls - Roscoe Collegiate - AAA: Brownfield - Clyde - Denver City - Idalou - Jim Ned - Littlefield - Muleshoe - Post - Roosevelt - AAAAA: Abilene Cooper - Lubbock - Lubbock Cooper - Plainview - Region 6: A: Water Valley - Wink - AA: Forsan - Iraan Sheffield - Irion County - McCamey - AAA: Alpine - Cohoma - Colorado City - Crane - Grape Creek - Kermit - Reagan County - Stanton - Texas Leadership Charter Academy - AAAAA: Lake View - Region 22: 5A: Andress 2 Austin - 2 *Bel Air 1 * *Bowie - 1 * Burges - 2 Canutillo - 2 *Chapin - 1 * *Del Valle - 1 * *Eastlake - 1 * El Paso - 2 *Hanks - 1* *Horizon - 1 * Irvin - 2
  15. There's going to be a A LOT of focus on what's going on in San Antonio on Halloween weekend, as there definitely should be. But let's not forget about what seems like an especially large group of bands heading to Atlanta this year. Clements Cypress Falls LD Bell Westwood Winston Churchill I think all 5 have a pretty decent shot at making finals based on what I've seen watching this regional online the past 2 years, as well as these bands shows this year. Thoughts on each band: Clements - Show is called "The Genesis Code". Clements always seems to me RIGHT on the cusp of being one of the heavy hitters in Texas. They seem relatively strong this year. Some pretty big moments musically throughout, especially the first hit. Great drill, and a great guard. Show this year seems a little more focused as well. They're performing pretty solidly right now, in 2 weeks I could see them being pretty polished. Cypress Falls - Haven't seen a video until recently and I don't think it's the full show. However, seems like they're pretty solid overall. They sound great in their big moments. Finalists in 2013, don't see why not again. Especially after their pretty impressive showing in Conroe. LD Bell - No vid for me yet. If anyone has one and wants to PM me............. . Anyways, sounds like they're stronger than the past few years. Excited to see the show. Competed well in Arlington! Westwood - I've not seen much of them either, but it seems like they really blossom later on. They REALLY cleaned up for state last year, was really impressed. Later in the season, don't see why they couldn't do pretty well. Winston Churchill - So Dada? Interesting, very peculiar show, and I mean that in a good way. Very nice visual program, guard contributes quite a bit to that. They sound very nice as well. Finalist finishes at two tough regionals, don't see why not here as well. As far as their competition. I'd say it's more than likely Tarpons. Probably can say that with 100% certainty. I saw a video............and GEEZ. Definitely not any less impressive even though it's not a nationals year. Show seems to be themed around some evil woman who keeps exotic animals (the guard) as pets. And they're just not too happy about that. There's a bunch of cages, a HUGE and FANTASTIC color guard (probably the most impressive part of their show), ridiculous amounts of technical passages, high velocity drill, pretty much what you'd expect from Tarpon. They're also increasing in size, over 200 members now. Wando, Harrison, and Dobbyns Bennett will probably be Bells biggest competition besides Tarpon. After that, there's a large flury of bands that are potential finalists. Should be a great super regional! Friday Prelims: 3:45 Harrison H.S., GA 4:00 Dutchtown H.S., GA 4:15 McEachern H.S., GA 4:30 Hickory H.S., VA 4:45 Break 5:15 Fayette County H.S., GA 5:30 Clements H.S., TX 5:45 Paulding County H.S., GA 6:00 Ola H.S., GA 6:15 Mill Creek H.S., GA 6:30 Walton H.S., GA 6:45 Break 7:15 Forsyth Central H.S., GA 7:30 Westminster H.D., MD 7:45 Hillgrove H.S., GA 8:00 L.D. 16. SWEET. I hadn't seen that before. If they've had it in the works for awhile, this could be fun.
  17. Like Brandon said, at this point I'd bet nothing is set in stone with anyone. In the spring Cedar Ridge and Bell were both on the Nationals list, now they're not. Things change, happen, ect. Just be careful what you share, in some cases certain people might not be ready/committed enough to want it public that they're planning on attending or trying to as of yet. I bet that's a MASSIVE undertaking, especially if it's the first time a school/director is going. Logistically, it blows my mind how bands like Flower Mound that are pretty large, had tons of props, front ensemble, guard equipment, 200+ kids, ect are able to make it go smoothly. A big undertaking no doubt and it probably takes a LOT of time. Anyways, didn't someone say last year that Marcus, Hebron, and FloMo were on a cycle now? I guess maybe that's not every year. We've seen some schools do it on a state year, Bowie/Reagan in 2012, Marcus last year, Bell when they went every year, ect. So while it's probably less likely, wouldn't surprise me to see a 6A or to go. Hope the rumors are true about Leander, I feel like they've hid a stride in performance AND design, and could be extremely dangerous in an extended season. What they do is perfect for Nationals. I'd love to see Cedar Park go back, they had a nice showing in I think 2010, and I think they're stronger now and could compete well. Then Vandegrift, they'd do well too.
  18. Haha, you were first. Posted it while I was typing mine up. I'll edit mind out. And noooooooo problem. I really like the show.
  19. They were first. http://www.txbands.com/forums/index.php?/topic/6605-2015-boa-st-louis-super-regional/
  20. Saw a video of Haltom from this, LOVE the show. They've really turned around these last two years. One of my favorites I've seen this year.
  21. Also, I believe that betting on the top 5 being the expected is a little dangerous. 1) It's UIL. 2) See Round Rock the last two state cycles. 3) Connally was 6th at state last go around, they get clean and sound fantastic. I'll direct you to their 2013 finals performance. I feel like they get kind of lost in the shuffle. Video I saw early on indicated much of the same. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1pxBUybvow
  22. Last Year: Region 8: Waco - 2 University, Waco - 2 Temple - 1 Rudder, Bryan - 3 Corsiciana - 1 College Station - 1 Bryan - 1 A&M Consolidated - 1 Region 12: Lanier - 2 Jefferson - 2 Highlands, SA - 1 Edison - 2 Alamo Heights - 2 Breckenridge - 1 Burbank - 1 Seguin - 2 Region 18: Ann Richards - 3 Bastrop - 2 Cedar Creek - 2 Connally - 1 Crockett - 1 Dripping Springs - 1 Lanier - 3 LBJ - 1 Lockhart - 3 McCallum - 1 Reagan - 1 San Marcos - 1 Travis - 2 Region 26: Cedar Park - 1 East View - 1 Elgin - 2 Georgetown - 1 Leander - 1 Hutto - 2 Manor - 2 Marble Falls - 2 Vandegrift - 1 Vista Ridge - 1 Last year 21 got 1s, so I don't think it's unreasonable to think that 4 more could get a 1 this year, especially on a state year.
