  1. I've heard shows with A LOT more electronics than what Reagan had, I don't even remember hearing any sound effects/electronic stuff in their show off the top of my head. Just a bunch of fantastic playing from them. And concerning the dance team..........I think it's pretty dang clever and effective. They certainly don't get in the way of the marching. They only enhance it.
  2. I feel like a bunch of the performances got lost in all the discussion on the weather related things...................some personal thoughts on the finalist contention bands: Cedar Ridge - BEAUTIFUL sounds coming from them this year, that certainly didn't change with the director change. Great arrangements too, loved the interweaving of "Forever Young" reemerging in different ways throughout. Thought the ballad was especially nice. Visual Performance seems a tad down this year, as did the design. However, overall, I was impressed. Definitely still on the bubble. Vandegrift - They sound fantastic, seemed really on today. The huge moments in this show are fantastic. "Uranus" opening. End of that section. "Jupiter" impact. That HUGE "Mars" moment was particularly fantastic. And the "Jupiter" reprise at the end with the shooting star in the drill was very nice. Not sure about the moments between those yet. Overall though, great job. Definitely upper bubble. Cedar Park - Oi. They sound GOOD. And CLEAN. This show was just being performed at an INCREDIBLY high level. Completely thought out and executed. That's about all I can say. They just sound really dang good. Show doesn't have a lot of depth, but that's perfectly okay when you sound and move like that. Ronald Reagan - Favorite of the day definitely. Same as Cedar Park it's currently being maxed out at the right time. That opening is just fantastic in every way, absolutely glorious. Ballad moment is still stunning with the dance team. And the new ending continues to make fantastic use of them. Fantastic job. Westlake - I knew they'd really clean up later on. Really quirky (in a good way) visual program, definitely represents the art the show was inspired by well. Love the Mozart section, and Slalom was really fun, drumline was smokin! An overall just enjoyable, energetic show. I'd say they're definitely on the bubble too.
  3. All I can say is you cannot plan for these kinds of things. No one out there has any ill intent, just a mess to deal with something like this on the bands side AND on BOAs side. Quite frankly I wouldn't want to be in eithers position.
  4. Well in slightly more positive news..................Clements is about to take the field in Atlanta! Good luck to them.
  5. Okay, that really sucks.
  6. Per their Facebook page, James Bowie is now at 4:30pm.
  7. Per their Facebook page, James Bowie is now at 4:30pm.
  8. Well regardless of what happens, STAY SAFE EVERYONE! As much as I'd love to see everyone compete, the safety of the kids has got to be the first priority. Gotta be a crazy day for the event workers, bands, and staffs. I wish the best to everyone, hope it can run smoothly from here on out! Also, try not to spread rumors by not posting something unless you are 100% FOR SURE it's true. All people want when it's a pretty hectic situation is more confusion.
  9. This is a lot more believable than the 7 bands drawing for only 5 spots thing floating around.
  10. Also, sounds like our friends from Archbishop Alter have arrived today on busses ALL THE WAY from Ohio! Geez, talk about a road trip. Best of luck to them, a class A championship and exhibition would be cool for the little band from up north. Someone on the BOA forum pointed their facebook out, sounds like they're already having a blast. https://www.facebook.com/Alter-High-School-Bands-150913124979961/timeline
  11. I don't think I've ever been so excited for a competition. I cannot wait to see as many of these shows as I can (might have to bring the headphones to work tomorrow).
  12. There's a video from Prelims on the linked Facebook page listed above.
  13. I'm happy your kids enjoyed the camp!
  14. Updated with Area's E and F. Still waiting on G. Will update 2A/3A tomorrow.
  15. Looking at performance times, growth in recent weeks, show development, cleaning, changes, when bands seasons end, ect. this is shaping up to be something pretty crazy. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few of last years finalists out, some new faces, someone in the top that isn't expected, ect. This is going to be crazy, and I can't wait.
  16. Yup! 3rd at state in 2002 and 2004 and 6th in 2006. We moved up to 4A my freshman year of high school in 2008. First time advancing since the move up.
  17. Leander, Centennial, and Dripping Springs are my 3 definite picks. The other 2 are probably more wild card type bands.
  18. There's going to be A LOT of new faces in finals this year. From last time around: Vandegrift Cedar Park Vista Ridge Wakeland Friendswood Connally Dawson Waxahachie Wylie Lake Ridge Two up to 6A, and 3 didn't advance this go around. At least 5 new faces this year. Exciting! Who will they be?
  19. Cleaned up some comments. You don't have to necessarily agree with the results, just please make sure you do so in a manner that's respectful, with reason, and not directing negatively at any program. Thank you.
  20. Full results here: https://www.uiltexas.org/music/marching-band/area Man, judge 2 in finals with Wakeland. Cost them 1st for sure, thankfully the others were consistent and it didn't cost them a state spot.
  21. Frisco Centennial's on youtube, they sound great and are very clean visually, could definitely see them in state finals.
  22. Updated with the Area B and A East Zone Advancers in 5A.
  23. Also, there is no reason in the world why a BOA centric show can't do well in UIL. If you're marching and playing well, you're marching and playing well. There's not NEARLY as much room for interpretation as there is with GE. Based on what I've seen, these results don't surprise me at all.
