You guys, you are certainly entitled to your own opinion, but keep in mind this is just High School band. Some of your comments about Marcus have been rather harsh. I'm sure those kids are going through a tough transition with their longtime director being promoted to Fine Arts Director for LISD. I wish them the best of luck and hope that they have a very successful season and continue their tradition of excellence. I'm looking forward to seeing them tonight at Finals

It must've been before that. I was a freshman in 99 when we medaled at state and I know it didn't happen while I was there. Maybe it was in 98?

I got to see their 2016 show at BOA Plano and UIL State and really enjoyed it. They made Finals at BOA Midland last year, earning 8th place, and are signed up for BOA Waco this year. I fully expect to see them in finals here at HEB.

Wow! I had seen PCEP 99 and 01 before, but this is the first time I've been able to see a video of the 2000 show. That show was deep! I really enjoyed it.

I agree. I think the show has a lot of potential once they clean it up. In true CTJ style, I think it's much more BOA-oriented than UIL though. They'll have to do quite a bit of cleaning before it translates well in UIL.

I loved "String Theory" in 2016. I was really rooting for Martin to make it to State that year. I would've loved the opportunity to see it again!

It's going to be miserable tomorrow at DCI Denton with a forecast high of 107. Heck, yesterday my car still read 100 degrees at 10pm. Have they ever delayed or cancelled a DCI event due to heat?

I'm not sure why there's all this hatred for Bloo this season. I saw them on opening day and saw a recent video of them and think they've absolutely deserved the scores they've received. The biggest thing for me is that the show seems very fresh. I have the utmost respect for Crown, and I think they play incredibly, but the show seems stale. We've seen guards run around on the field with growls on their faces ever since LD Bell did 'The Remaining' in 2006. It seems a little dated to me. I'm sure that might be an unpopular opinion, but I personally believe the top 2 this year will be Bloo and SCV.

Does anyone follow WGI Winds? I stumbled across a video of Rhythm X Winds' 2017 show on YouTube and I'm intrigued. I don't really know much about WGI at all though.

The more that I think back on the 2017 season, the more that Reagan's show stands out to me. The entire show is just beautiful. The best part of the show for me was the sax quartet's performance of Addis Ababa. And the fact that the entire sax quartet switches over to bari sax and then back to their original sax in the middle of the quartet is just sick. The show deserved it's 1st place finish in ensemble visual at San Antonio, it was one of the best visual performances I've seen from a Texas band in 18 years of following the activity. And I've grown to love Reagan's tradition of doing a palindromic ending, so that was just the cherry on top for me.

The top bands in Texas have become very equally skilled recently, and often placements can come down to show design or the most minute performance details. That got me thinking what would this year's BOA San Antonio Finals results look like if each band performed a different band's show? I figured this would be a fun talking point during the off season.
