Area D contest
Serardian replied to G'townPIT's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Good enough for me. I'd love to have 10 of the top bands in one of the most amazing State Areas in my living room. -
Area D contest

Has anyone ever ordered videos from them before? What's the quality like? Thirty bucks for finals isn't a bad deal. -
Calling someone a "complete flamer" is not giving a bad review, it's completely disrespecting them as a person.
-
Is it going to be one giant text message with all the results? Or will it be several individual messages...because those can add up.

Smooth. I can't wait to see Bell at San Antonio! -
I think I disagree with every single sentence you just typed.

8, because that mustang is very intimidating.

Bands of America (BOA)

By practicing, they mean competing in it at BOA San Antonio before they compete in it at State. -
Area G Contest

Ooooo, very mature and well-executed show, in my opinion. I don't profess to be a judge, but the only things I saw were some straight line rotations that were way off. Other than that, I don't know. I've only seen Hanna and Harlingen South but I don't see how you made 8th. -

There are 5 judges in all. Columns C, D, and E are three separate music judges. The higher the score, the better. Columns F and G are two separate marching judges. Again, the higher the score, the better. Columns H through L are the rankings. These are determined by the scores each judge gives. The lower the number, the better. For example, a 2 (second place) is better than an 8 (eighth place). Column M is just adding all the rankings together. The lower the number, the better. For example, in prelims Cedar Park's rankings from the judges were 1st in music, 2nd in music, 6th in music, 1st in marching, and 3rd in marching. Add these up and you get 13, which is Column M. I hope that clarifies a bit! -

I think so. I remember seeing Cy-Falls at BOA with an orchestra. -
This year, yes. Langham Creek and Spring, who won their areas, have obviously been in BOA finals before too.

Our band went to a competition where Allen was and they had to sit on the visitors side of the stadium! -

Very cute show! Drill a little dirty in some of the standstills in the middle, but I enjoyed it. Good luck at State! -
I agree. Shocking to see them in 13th place.

2006 UIL State Prelims SCHEDULE
Serardian replied to jr520c's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Yes, I think the band directors drew schedule times after Area finals on Saturday. -
All of them are in rank order except Area D, which is random. Area A I'm not sure about. EDIT: Sorry, Area C is random too, I guess.

Area G Contest

I think people are referring to the inconsistencies between the judges themselves. For example, one judge giving a 3rd place for marching and the other giving a 21st place for marching. Are they even watching the same performance?
