  1. Currently several of the El Paso bands are preparing for the New Mexico Tournament of Bands Contest which will be held on 11/05/2011... With Del Valle and Bel Air not attending. Del Valle is preparing for the UIL State Contest and Bel Air is currently in San Antonio for the BOA event.
  2. jmj, do not underestimate any of the El Paso bands, they are really coming off strong this marching season. With all the bands advancing from Region 22 I expect to see true contenders from EP-Coronado, EP- Hanks, EP-Bel Air, EP-Americas, EP-Franklin, who knows maybe all 5 of these will advance!
  3. Thank one of your newest band directors: Ivan De La Cruz for them, he was one of the main reasons why Bel Air (El Paso) started using Contras back a few years ago.
  4. Here are the Results from tonights (5a bands only) 10/16/2010 UIL Region 22 Contest. Division I El Dorado HS Hanks HS Franklin HS Bel Air HS Socorro HS Montwood HS Eastwood HS Coronado HS Americas HS All 9 of El Paso area HS Bands will advance to UIL Area (A) Contest at Odessa, TX Should be a pretty good line up of bands and a sweet competition.
  5. Dan here is what happened, The mistake was a misinterpretation of the rules regarding "judges' preference." In UIL there is a rule that states if a band receives a ranking of 1,2,or 3 from at least 2 music judges and 1 marching judge, they will advance to the SMBC regardless of their final placement. Del Valle came in 5th overall but had a ranking of 2 and 4 in music, and a 3 in marching. ( Warning-- I have not seen the actual recaps-- this is hearsay, but from reliable sources!) The contest administrator apparently thought that since the AREA was advancing 4 bands to state, the ranking of "4" in music would count towards this policy. That was the mistake-- it should not have counted, the rules clearly state " 3 or higher". However, during the challenge time, where mistakes can be challenged and rectified before becoming official, no one questioned this. And so the results became "official" and were announced. About an hour later someone, apparently from the Austin office of UIL, clarified the rule, and Del Valle was informed they were not advancing. But an update from Uil, they had advanced Del Valle, which the band drew the 11th spot for preliminary at SMBC
  6. You can now officially include Del Valle HS from the list to Area A advancing to the State Contest. Area A: Azle H.S. * Saginaw Boswell H.S. * Wolfforth Frenship H.S. Saginaw H.S. * Del Valle*
  7. Area A: (Advancing to State) Azle Boswell Frenship Saginaw Del Valle
  8. In update to the UIL Area Final Results... In a late breaking development, Del Valle's advancement to state has been, at least temporarily, rescinded! The issue came down to a misinterpretation of the UIL rules regarding judges' preference. (more can be found at eprocks.com and elpasotimes.com) Area A: (Advancing to State) Azle Boswell Frenship Saginaw
  9. The Finals order in Odessa was 1 Frenship 2 Del Valle 3 Saginaw 4 Randall 5 Mountain View 6 Plainview 7 Boswell 8 Springtown 9 Azle 10 Ryan The results were Advancing to State: 1 Azle 2 Boswell 3 Frenship 4 Saginaw 5 Del Valle -- Del Valle advances on Judges' Perference Also competed: 6 Ryan 7 Springtown 8 Mountain View 9 Randall 10 Plainview

I dont know if its true or not Im not all that smart with the UIL system but, When a Band makes finals at Area, do they rank the bands by peforming time slots meaning the latest time bands scored the best than the early band schedule to perform in finals or vice versa, can someone please enlighten me?
