    2025 TCGC thread

it might!! this was a fairly strong panel, 50% active wgi judges + 50% "retired" ones. dripping springs is peaking at exactly the right time, sort of like grand oaks did last yr. the 90+ crowd in the A class is quite small this year. very exclusive club. meanwhile woodlands A totally flatlined here. that's a surprising result for me, makes me wish i attended to see for myself!! others must have improved a lot!! i thought this was the best woodlands A show of the past 4 years, but they scored way worse than usual. at least they won WGI Austin i guess. they seem to always do better in wgi anyway. maybe take em to Dallas next yr instead? Westlake scoring like they could challenge for an open medal, we'll see if that holds. overtaking Pearland in the overstuffed 3rd round of Dayton prelims will be their first task. where was Pearland, speaking of? 'nother Friendswood situation?? or just a scheduling conflict?? also, cy-fair over bowie here, but it was close. cyfair wins in the three analysis captions, but Bowie takes effect. i hope they both make it into Dayton finals but could be tricky if Oviedo and dobyns have improved a lot. woodlands world up another couple points this week. 94.4. last week at wgi their downstairs scores looked like an impenetrable firewall. this week the upstairs ones look like it, too. DA scores better than expected, including 95s across the board from Pizani. i was projecting a 96-something win for em at Dayton, but that was w/ 98+ downstairs combined w/ 95ish upstairs. if these upstairs scores improve, they may do even better than i think, buuut i have trust issues w/ local circuit scores. might flatline a bit in Dayton. overall, tx high school units heading to Worlds looking very very very strong this yr. independents a lil on the weaker side unfortunately.

  2. So incredibly proud of Liberty Hill Guard this season. First year participating in WGI and made finals in San Antonio. Made TCGC State Championships for the first time in school history and came in 4th in their round. They can’t be sad about coming in under Jordan, Tomball and Tomball Memorial. It was a fun night for sure.

  4. When they were 4a. Were they not in area b then? With all the area realignments I cannot keep who’s where straight. I love that band and would like to see them reach the same level of success in 5A as they had in 4a.

  5. Calling out to those who are or have been Drum Majors. Our leadership auditions are coming up and I'm a synth player so our options are pretty limited since we can't really be a percussion captain/section leader and we already help load the trucks every game so joining the loading crew is kind of off the table. There are really only 3 options for a leadership role and that would be join the Electronics crew that helps set up speakers for rehearsal(not every interested), sound crew captain which has already been taken by my friend, and lastly drum major. I would love the opportunity to conduct the band and be a strong leader but I love synth so much I don't know if its worth leaving synth for my last 2 years so I can be DM. Also if I don't enjoy DM we get locked into it for the remaining time we have in HS. I'mm pretty conflicted and would love to hear from those who have been DM!!!! Thanks yall

    UIL 6A Area J 2025

Here my early thoughts on a lot of these J programs for this year; i think itll be another great year as this area impressed me a lot last year LISD big 3 most likely will go to state all again, with my personal order being Flomo Hebron Marcus in that order, all 3 could be in contention for each spot of those positions however; well have to see how their shows for this following year treats them. But my opinion for this specific order is that Flower Mound is way more of a heavy theming school and with all these other schools starting to develop (Bwell, WISD, MISD PESH, etc) I think that theming could possibly start being more necessary Prosper HS is probably gonna have another killer year with the Grand Nats appearance and 16th at the SMBC; however I want to wait and see how the new Richland school they are opening in the west of the district will affect their program before I make any big opinions on their program, but they will most likely be a contender for state once again. Braswell is a bit tricky on me to decide on right now just because of the sudden jump, but I think that they will most likely have another good season, and even possibly a visit to State if they can find a way to take advantage of Prosper high's situation with richland. Also keep in mind DISD is opening a new HS in the Crossroads area in 2027, but that wont be an issue for Bwell for these next few years. Wylie ISD will probably both be finals calibur once more, but keep in mind the new management, more notably Weast now has Sachse's Head director, which could be a really useful asset after their really killer season at SHS last year. Another big thing that could be talked about is the guard programs in these programs could have an effect on the programs this year, with those proposals for the judging system. Little Elm is having a historic Open season; Marcus is still really strong, and Prosper Wylie and Rock hill are also having good seasons this year, but in general a lot of the guards here are really good too not just the ones mentioned here. I think this year will be a great year for pretty much every band in this area and I cant wait to see how their shows end up for this year.

Dripping Springs won SNA last night with a 91.82! Hopefully this is a good sign for them at dayton.

  9. Ugh, I am so tired of that piece. I've seen groups perform that back to back and one final had 5 groups with that music throughout the classes. I "hope" everyone got this out of their systems.

    School Rivalries

As someone who goes to Cy-Fair, I can confirm the three way rivalry is alive and well.
