So very happy for and proud of our Texas guards in the finals tomorrow and, of course, also the for others who made the commitment to go and give their best. There are nothing but winners at the world championships and some of the winners get to perform a couple of more times. I'm always amazed at the talent showcased at this event. I'm just going to watch the finals and celebrate the opportunity to watch and the abilities displayed of these fine performers.

It has been a great year for Team Texas at WGI. Going into finals, Texas has a top 3 guard in every single class except for IW and SW. And in IW, CGT Dallas is in 4th and remains less than a point away from 1st. They're half a point away from 3rd place, which is not so bad, but Blessed Sacrament is pretty fierce this year, so I think it could be an uphill battle for CGT Dallas to beat them. Of the top four, I do think CGT Dallas has the most enjoyable show, and the crowd seems to agree. Lots of thrilling moments, like that brilliant (though not super clean) flag feature at the end and the jacket rifle catch. I doubt it'll be enough to persuade the judges to bump them up to first, but who cares. I do think that if POC's show is performed as well as a typical POC finals show is performed, they'll probably win IW again. Even though this POC show is not my favorite from them, after watching Paramount, I do think that there's an elegance to POC's show that the other top shows lack -- especially from an ensemble standpoint. Simply put, it's really nice to look at from up high. But POC hasn't been super consistent performance-wise this year, so we'll see. A weak performance will do them in. I don't think they can rely quite so much on the strength of the show design, like they sort of did last year when faced with a great performance from Aimachi.

I'm happy to see Eastlake in the fight for a Scholastic Open medal. I think they've placed lower than they should have the past couple of years, so this seems like delayed justice. I think their Graffiti show this year is brilliant, and I absolutely, 100% think that they are ready for the challenges of the Scholastic World class, which they'll automatically be bumped up into if they medal in the Open class.

Beautiful performance by Klein Oak this morning, this years show reminds me a lot of last years in the best of ways.  Incredibly pure and well performed.

Wow, I didn’t realize that. Texas colorguards are definitely on the rise and becoming quite competitive. It’s about time.

It’s a brilliant show. And I love me some good hip hop! ;-)

One thing you can't see unless you are there in the arena or if there is a camera close-up with the online feed, is the release of emotions with many of the scholastic class performers at the end of their finals performance, especially the seniors. At that point, they are very tired, emotionally spent, and it hits them that this is their last performance with their guard. Many of them leave the floor with tears in their eyes and it is very touching to witness. Just like marching band in fall, winter guard dominates your life and steals your Saturdays for the season. It's your life and when that life comes to an end, it's tough for many of them.

Not only is that a Scholastic A record, that's the 3rd highest score ever recorded across any class in WGI history.

Of course scores are not comparable across classes, but that gives you an idea of just how dominant they were for a Scholastic A guard.

I’m stunned. Wow. Just wow!

McNeil and Eastlake get 4th and 5th. Really outstanding, but no medals. I didn’t see the finals performances, so I don’t know what happened, but I’m still a little disappointed that we probably won’t see either in World class next year. I suppose one or both could bump themselves up, but that would be risky. Even the top 3 SO groups don’t always excel right away in World class, as demonstrated this year (none made finals).
