I still cannot wrap my head around the fact that these are high schoolers. I cannot wait for the DVDs to be released so I can see it over and over again. However I was pretty disappointed with the conductors style and interpretation with the second movement (not the performers faults at all). Everything seemed so fast and forced to me... and I could tell the soloists were trying to play with some forms of stretching and musicality but it was hard for them to do so with the pushed tempo. Disregarding my opinion about the second movement, the other movements and pieces were fantastic, and it makes me very happy this amazing level of talent and hard work in one ensemble. I thought that was insane, but this performance not only made the normal person in me the happy, but made the trombone player in me die in awe. John Mackey is an absolute genius. AllenBandDad Posted January 25, 2018 Report Share Posted January 25, 2018 Yeah, now that TMEA 2018 is only a few weeks away, I'm bummed that I don't have a have a kid in the All-State band anymore to justify the trip down to San Antonio.
