Magma31651 Posted June 16, 2019 Posted June 16, 2019 Looks like history has repeated itself and the trombone forum has died once again Quote
MadisonBandMan1 Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 I guess there aren't many other trombone players than us here. I have noticed that the amount of actual high school students on this site has dwindled over the years. Quote
Airmedic372 Posted September 27, 2019 Posted September 27, 2019 I’m here too. Just got back on this website Quote

Still interesting to see the parents opinions vs the performer opinions. I had to sit out during the stadium rehearsal we had last night, and it was really awesome to watch. Side note - watch out for the madison band this year, we are doing something special what I saw was special - for us. Airmedic372 1 Quote
FEDude Posted September 28, 2019 Posted September 28, 2019 When I was in HS I'd anonymously read the boards but never participate. I know there are plenty of others. I'd assume a large part of the cause is that most band programs have their kids on strict lockdown when it comes to social media. Even saying one program will beat another in a competition is seen as hating on the group in the eyes of some directors. At Taft, if you were seen as being negative too many times, they'd just go ahead and kick you out of band. I don't blame them honestly, the good name of the band is more important than any one individual, no matter how talented. There are plenty of band directors on here, and I'd be scared of accidentally crossing the line. I know if I saw anyone currently attending Taft crossing the line, I'd send a screen shot to one of the band directors I'm Facebook friends with so they could deal with it. Side note: I haven't seen any high schoolers be mean on the boards for a while. In fact, it's been a lot of band parents, which I assume the directors can't do much about. MadisonBandMan1 1 Quote
Airmedic372 Posted September 28, 2019 Posted September 28, 2019 Yeah. I know my school is EXTREMELY strict with this type of stuff. But they’re fine if I don’t say anything about our show and be respectful to everyone. BanderThanYou 1 Quote

It's just how I was raised. Sometimes things don't come across the right way no matter how hard you try though, both physically and digitally. That's where my constant apologizing comes from in some of my posts. An example would be the post that I just made in the US Bands Yamaha Cup thread. I had some doubt that what I wanted to say would come across the right way, so I over emphasized the fact that I was NOT trying to make anybody mad or meant anything wrong. My band directors aren't as strict about that stuff. In fact, we aren't very secretive at all. Its pretty easy to find videos of our program in the last few years on the internet. Quote

FEDude Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 Sincerely, for your sake, I'd be careful about directly calling out your band director and comparing them to a past one. They don't tend to like that too much. Negativity on social media or forums about ones own program directly undermines your own director and is normally nipped in the bud immediately. Being a section leader is also a cool thing to bring up in college interviews so don't throw that opportunity away. Now if you wanna help change the culture of the band, that requires a very courageous conversation with the director. Airmedic372 1 Quote

I don't remember anyone calling out their band director. If you are speaking metaphorically, then never mind - I completely understand what you mean. Quote

One of the assistant directors at one of our feeder middle schools is a trombone player from Marcus who just so happened to go to the college that I want to go to. I also met one of your former drum majors. Both of them are really nice people! Quote

FEDude Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 It was directed at a post that has since been deleted. I meant to delete this one as well, but couldn't figure out how (stupid mobile browser). Not gonna say who the poster was. Don't recommend they come forward either. You can gather more or less what the post said from my response. Quote

Yeah but we perform on friday and will likely be pretty far out of reach of finals (for now ) If you find some way to get your directors to rehearse on our band lot like some other bands do, then we can meet then!
