Yes, I'm sure a lot of these schools would say the judge quality was probably really good at Melissa. I'm not saying you need to go to some place where there is only a couple of 4A bands. Yes, most bands in the 1st week only do up to Movement 3 and yes there were probably some who didn't want to travel far. Those are all factors but for me I want to get as many runs as possible and as much feedback as possible. We all know shows in the middle of the afternoon are different then the ones under the lights which is why I would want to see both. There is no perfect answer. True….I definitely think all bands have a different vibe at night and fan energy is different when not sweltering. Good luck rest of the way to all the bands! WanderingTraveler 1 Quote

The thing is, they knew they weren’t going to do great here, which is why most went to another contest after. Farmersville went on to win the whitesboro contest later yesterday. I’m positive they all go to Melissa to get an early comparison to bands like Celina. it’s all about balance from a director perspective. Take the kids to some contests to challenge them, but take them to some they can rank high in order to not discourage the kids. that being said, I 100% think north Lamar’s contest choices are bizarre Quote

Which makes alot more sense in performing early leave to perform later in the afternoon at Whitesboro. Quote
Tubalord11 Posted September 28, 2025 Posted September 28, 2025 What happened with Mckinney North in prelims, 20th in overall music? Ik they are normally late bloomers but that seems a bit too low JFNDOWBFAN 1 Quote

I honestly missed their performance both times but I’m assuming they don’t feature them enough because I’m sure their wws are solid. but I also think that judge was the most inconsistent of the day. edit: woodwinds scored fine in finals Tubalord11 and WanderingTraveler 2 Quote

Really committed to the snake theme, including the props and the cool uniforms. Definitely a show that doesn’t lack GE. Spacing in the opener was a bit inconsistent. Woodwinds have an amazing presence in the opener, before the opening hit. Loving some of these sustained chords and sounds from the low brass. Love that there is not a stale moment in this show. Impressed by the dynamic control of this group, but sometimes its hard for the trumpets to keep up with how soft the dynamic is. Also, welcome back The Bluecoats!!! Difficult show!! Also am I tripping or is this like the third show with bass 4 missing. So we had 5 basses this year, last year we only had 4, jus our bass 4 failed his first grading period meaning he couldn’t play. Props are cool, and love the percussion wraps. Opening duo was super nice. I think this group does articulation very well. Brass sound gets kind of lost in certain moments because of horn angle, but the long sustained chord moments are very nice!! Excited to see when this show is finished. They've used the same outfits... every year... since 2020... WanderingTraveler 1 Quote

From UIL: ”the tie can always be broken by determining which band was ranked highest by at least three judges.” Quote
