WanderingTraveler Posted September 22, 2025 Posted September 22, 2025 Reserving myself from making a full prediction list here, but few things I am excited to see from this competition. 1. This will give us an early season indicator to Area B: I think Wakeland and Lone Star are “locks” in that area so this will give us a head to head to head insight to the main contenders for the (pending) 2 remaining spots for state. Argyle vs MN vs LT. 2. Wondering how the 4A powerhouse Celina can fit in with this slate of bands. I am expecting 9-10th. 3. This is the first non-BOA competition that the McKinney schools (minus Boyd) have competed in side-by-side in a few years (I think). Excited to see how this shakes out in a non-exhibition format. 4. From most posts, I see the top-10ish to be around the same, excited to see which bubble bands make it into finals! BassoonSOLO5456 1 Quote

Memorial /Little Elm In my opinion, Liberty had a wonderful show last year but having both Celina and Liberty over Mckinney North is interesting considering MN was a State Finalist last year and have been somewhat dominant in Area B for the past few years. I know they're doing another jazz show this year and that could drop their placings, and I'm wondering if you've seen anything from Liberty or Celina this year to put them above. (No shade to Liberty or Celina, I would like to see them above I just haven't heard much about either of their shows this year and am quite interested to see how Area B plays out ) WanderingTraveler 1 Quote

Popular Post wtxbd02 Posted September 22, 2025 Popular Post Posted September 22, 2025 Just jumping in to say let's be careful about how we talk about other programs. Thanks. Regarding McKinney North, judges do not and should not care what you did the year before. They judge what's on the field that day. There's nothing wrong with a band developing a very distinct style and approach in show design. Flower Mound has been doing an art based show every year since 2013 and it hasn't hurt them. Woodlands has been doing the very Broadway inspired jazz oriented shows pretty consistently since 2019. I think what McKinney North does plays incredibly well to their strengths and is a breath of fresh air personally, I always look forward to seeing their shows because it's a very distinct point of view and they pull it off. So entertaining. LeanderMomma, TrumpetRuler11, J-Mike16 and 6 others 9 Quote

A lot of comments mentioning them having “another jazz show” really means nothing year to year when shows are scored in isolation to their predecessors. Judges probably are not in-tune with shows year to year, and they are more likely to judge shows in a black box format. If they perform the show well, they will do well, and vise versa. I can see from an enjoyment perspective why the jazz theme could get stale after a while, but so does hearing Dies Irae in marching shows. I would be more interested to know if the students that have been in the program for a while still enjoy this style of show ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Quote

Mike McBandiel Posted September 24, 2025 Posted September 24, 2025 My predictions for the competition this weekend: 1. Hebron (sweep) 2. Lone Star 3. Braswell (I could for sure see them getting 2nd over Lone Star) 4th-8th is honestly the biggest question for me but I think that it will be very close between all of them 4. Argyle 5. Rock Hill 6. McKinney 7. Lebanon Trail 8. McKinney North 9. Celina (honestly, I could see them getting 8th as well) 10. Liberty (they could also get 9th and beat Celina) 11. James Martin 12. Memorial/Lakeview Centennial/Little Elm (could be any of them) Quote

I said this last year, and I will say it again this year. Sulphur has all the pieces there in front of them but I think what they are missing is color and dynamics. They are loud pretty much all the way through, unless is it a feature. I would love for them to bring in more dynamic variation and color. I think it would up their game. Quote

I honestly don’t know. This early in the season it’s really hard to put one show over the other. I am impressed that so many schools seem to have a lot on the field, but I’m not certain that is always a good thing, especially if it ends up sloppy at the end. Celina is the clear favorite, but so many 4A schools have upped their game. This contest is basically a mini-area. Last year I honestly didn’t think they would take the 4A awards. I gave canton the slight edge, and then canton didn’t even advance out of area. It’s just too hard to judge. My completely biased opinion is: Celina NL I’m going out on a limb here to say Krum next. Again, totally biased but I would love this program to get a state run this year! sulphur/china/farmersville canton I am not familiar with the other 4A programs to make a judgement call. Again, 100% biased opinion based on crappy halftime videos and performances last year. It could go any way. I would not be surprised to see any of the programs listed above take all the small school awards and one or two (maybe even three) could make finals in any order. TmanTdog1981 1 Quote
rudy12 Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 Canton should make one of the top 4. There marching is better than most they have such a powerful sound. Maybe I’m biased, but I think this is a come back year. Quote
