Hebron- I mean just don’t get it. They never let down, Ever!!! It almost felt like they’re saying that just bc we didn’t win Bedford doesn’t means we’re gone.

Opener, insane, love how they start strong and then back of with the WWs. Crown 13 ballad part was peak, and that ballad…. Loved the perc feature, they continue to get stronger, and the brass feature before the end. And those WWs are playing a million notes so fast. And oh the guard, so strong. They do a great job exploring the different themes like space and the ocean, the music and drill shows it very well. And drill/visuals, so so clean. Don’t be surprised if they win tonight…or state. Ty Hebron for blessing my ears this lovely morning

This show has come a long way from earlier this month at the Dallas BOA regional. Excited to see how FloMo and Marcus have progressed. Especially FloMo since they took first over Hebron at BOA Dallas.

First time this season seeing Hebron. Did they start earlier than they should have? Or is that just a normal part of the show? The show still looks and sounds Amazing!

UIL is very strict about timing, if you go over the time limit you get disqualified. The timer starts after the announcer, so starting earlier is a safe measure to make sure they don't go over the limit.

McKinney Boyd-OKAY BOYD, WE HEAR YOU!!!! So McKinney ISD is just a wall of sound, go it. Is my first live viewing this season and was not ready for that, holy smokes. The sweet dreams audio really sets the tone and then bang. And then it’s right into the next movement, the trilling in the brass was so clean and effective. Beautiful ballad with the flute and soprano sax (I think) duet. Visually really strong, a couple cover down issues but very strong. I mean wow I’m happy I’m not a judge bc like, that could be at state. They could make everyone’s preds so wrong

That’s right. Have to be complete in under 8 mins. Announcer starts :45 seconds before they start the “clock”. So if a band thinks they are close to going over, they will pre-show some of their UIL performance to be “safe”.

I really got to give props to the Plano Sr. Alto saxophone soloist. Many saxophones can feel thin in their tone  due to environmental challenges or setup difficulties, but his tone is so effective and full especially with this entertaining repertoire for the program, very well done!

Definitely enjoyed Plano Sr.'s show! Loved their use of The Rolling Stones

I also heard that they don't judge anything before the clock starts. Not sure if that's true or not or if it's even really possible.

I believe some of that is true. Forget which school did it, but they started so early that they left like 4-6 minutes on the actual clock. Got them DQ'ed

Plano Senior- Okay Plano Senior!! That sax soloist in the opener was nails, and another band with a lot of presence. Some discrepancies in pitch in the brass in their two features, but they killed some parts. WWs were solid throughout, and the trumpet and horn solos were great. Really fun show, amazing job Plano

Here is what I found on the UIL website. Basically what has been posted.

1) Performance Time. Each competing band shall occupy the football field for not less than five nor more than eight minutes. Any band that leaves the field in less than five minutes or fails to complete its performance in eight minutes shall be penalized one rating.

(2) Movement to Field Position. The contest chair will determine the ready position each band will assume prior to entering the field of competition. The position shall provide efficient and prompt access to the football field without interfering with other bands as they perform. This location will be clearly described in the marching contest packet.

(3) Official Time. The official time for each band will be kept according to the following:

(A) The contest chair will designate an official timekeeper.

(B) In order to allow ample time for the judges to complete their critiques, bands will be scheduled with five minutes between performances and a maximum of fifteen minutes per band.

(C) Bands may use the five minutes prior to their performance in any way they deem appropriate in order to assume their starting position and prepare for the beginning of their show. Activities may include warm-up and/or cadence.

(D) Each band will be announced with 45 seconds remaining on the 5-minute clock. The beginning of their announcement will indicate that the performance time will begin in 45 seconds.

(E) The actual timing and adjudication for the show will begin at the end of the five minutes.

(F) At the conclusion of each band’s performance the post script will be read while the band will have two minutes to exit the field and clear the marching surface of all equipment, instruments and props. The use of either instrumental or verbal cadence is optional. A band that fails to be clear of the field (outside the sidelines or endlines) or continues to use instrumental or verbal cadence at the end of the two minutes will be disqualified.

(G) A band leaving equipment or instruments on the sideline in such a manner that these items impede the movement of the next band into its starting position will be subject to penalty in accordance with Subchapter E.

I think this is true, but it's obviously impossible for a judge to completely ignore it, meaning that a band should still try and make a good impression before things are technically being judged. Starting early also gives the performers the opportunity to play some of the show and "warm up" in performance and get their best sound quality and performance mentality before they start getting judged.

Rock Hill- talk about cleaned up!!! Wow, they look and sound like a different band from like 3 weeks ago at McKinney. It felt like they’re finally hit that point of contention with the show, bc that to me was so good. Lots more musical control, visually seemed clean, and percussion was going off. Still some things here and there but they want another run tonight and just might get it, amazing job RH!

Byron Nelson- What a fantastic performance to kick off the second half!!! Great opening with the trumpet solo and WW quintet! Huge sound throughout the show, and wow that Percussion is unreal!! Guard was great as well, and visually some super cool moments! Overall fantastic run, shouldn’t be to far out, but they put out a fight, great job BN!

Lewisville-super fun show from Lewisville!! Soloists were fantastic, they have a great sound and good presence despite their size. Lovely ballad, super super engaging drill, just lots of fun moments, great job Lewisville!

Holy mother of god Flower Mound. I can't comment on the music performance 'cause I was watching on the livestream, but holy smokes the visual performance was unreal. 🤯

Watched them myself. I'm in awe by how clean they are! They couldn't have picked a better show to bring to Grand Nats! I am so excited!

I watched both Avon and Carmel last night. Both were outstanding but if Flo Mo delivers that type performance at GN then I predict they will bring home the Eagle.

I was also able to catch them last night, and as of right now I give Flower Mound the edge. Avon has a fun show, and Carmel has good rep, but FM has a visually stunning show and they’re locked in.
