My son and I are going to have a little watch party at home for finals. And when I say little I mean just me and him 😂 We load up on snacks and blankets for Grand Nats and settle in for the night. I'm looking forward to seeing some shows I haven't seen yet and of course cheering for Team Texas, especially Dripping Springs. We've got friends over there. Reallllly hoping the stream behaves. 🤞

That sounds like my Friday night and Saturday 😂 Unfortunately been away from work for too long due to SMBC, but it will be open on my laptop on my desk!!!

Good morning everyone!! Best of luck to all of our Tx and all the other bands!!! I need to look at the schedule but I’m considering watching some of prelims….maybe. Won’t be able to catch any of semis or finals, but yeah good luck everyone!!

I know that it won’t happen for a variety of reasons but I would love to see GN move around to different venues on a rotating basis to mix up the participation. For example maybe the southeast one year, Indy the next and then San Antonio. I can’t see a far west city hosting due to distance/lower participation but at least mix it up a little. Again, it won’t happen but one can dream. 🙂

SLC: And theres the Texas sound! This show has improved a lot from my last viewing of it! Great run! Lots of good things going on here, from sound, to some cool visual effects and beyond. Great low brass sounds and high brass technical features across the show. Percussion was exposed and showing off, some good chops throughout. I think visual performance was incredibly strong today, especially from BOA standards. Love the small ensemble on the stages once the "Southlake Carroll" tarps drop, super fun part of the show. More to say, but I see no way this doesn't advance to semis, great job!

their semis time kinda sucks too. on the flip side they'll perform last in finals if they're able to hold onto a top half spot after semis. tbh they prob should be able to do that thru vis and effect. even their music scores should fare better here than in TX. we'll see what happens!! should be interesting.

speaking of curses + trends, just realized we got a bit of a schrodinger result w/ BOA SA champion. both flomo AND a band not attending nationals won, simultaneously reinforcing and contradicting recent trends lol.

lol was it Avon?? not an unreasonable choice!! but flomo already having posted a 97.4 is a pretty big statement too imo.

Marcus just did a FABULOUS job in prelims! I think they have a very strong shot at being top half of finals!

Good guess. I just find it totally disrespectful to sit there and make stupid comments when more than half the bands have not performed but I’m not surprised.

I still feel largely the same about this contest as I did a few weeks ago. We'll see what Bentonville and Blue Springs bring, but my top five as of now is unchanged. My pre-season predictions for finalists probably won't be all that shabby, either. Is it sad that anyone can predict something like 10 of the 12 finalists without having seen a single show? Such is (band) life.

I think Flower Mound goes in as the default favorite here. I think they sound better than Avon, and that should bleed into the music effect captions. They posted very big visual numbers at San Antonio as well. I'm excited to see how it all plays out!
