Here are my predictions:

1. Marcus

2. Hebron

3. Flomo

(gap)

4. Wylie

5. Prosper

(gap)

6. McKinney

7-8 Little Elm/Braswell

(small gap)

9. Wylie East

10-11 McKinney Boyd/Rock Hill

It will very likely be Wylie or Prosper making that 4th spot, but it could be possible for any of the top 9ish to make state depending on their performance(s) this Saturday. Would be really cool to see an underdog in Braswell, Little Elm, or Rock Hill as well. McKinney Boyd has a great show too but I think because of how late they threw in the closer they could underperform or not be as cleaned up as some of the other state or even just the finals contenders. The gaps can be interchangeable, especially 7/8 and 10/11.

Wondering if UIL has a “plan C” for inclement weather. The forecast for Saturday and Monday looks pretty awful right now.

Friday looks like the best day in the next 4-5 days but guessing stadiums aren’t available due to football. Moving up might be strain on transportation departments too.

I think these regions are praying to be able to get prelims in on Saturday and use those results if necessary

here are my predictions for area J 2024:

1. Flomo

2. Hebron

3. Marcus

4. Wylie/McKinney Boyd (hopefully these two tie, but honestly i could see both of them coming in fourth, Wylie has worked really hard on putting on a great show, and their drill is pretty strong, however Boyd can very well beat them in music. I went to their crosstown game against McKinney high last Friday and their closer sounds great. Despite Boyd not having their closer on the field at BOA Prosper, they are well prepared for Area on Saturday. however, both are gonna have to put on a really solid performance in both prelims and finals to have a shot at state.)

5. Prosper (prosper's show is great but hasn't stood out to me as much as last year's. From what I have seen online, their show is great and they are strong all around but I just think that Boyd and Wylie are fighting a little harder this year for that 4th spot (especially after Prosper took state from Boyd last year LOL))

6. WEast (I haven't seen much of their show but to be honest Prosper and WEast are pretty interchangeable. I don't really have much to say other than their show is a tiny bit weaker than last year's but overall they are definitely very capable of placing well.)

7/8. Rock Hill (I love their show this year, visuals are pretty strong but I wish their music was stronger. I haven't kept up with this band as much but their show is definitely attention grabbing)

7/8. McKinney High (I don't see them advancing to state just yet, but WOW. Their show is incredible and the progress they have made over the years is so impressive. Last year was their first year advancing to area finals after I believe 6 or 7 years and they just keep getting better. Their music is really strong, but I think their marching technique is lacking compared to these other finalist bands. Really excited to see this band perform though, and I can absolutely see them having an even better show next year and placing higher)

9. Lewisville (unfortunately, this band's rankings have never been particularly high, but I think they have shown some improvement this season.)

Excited to see these talented bands! Good luck to those performing! These rankings are just my predictions so they probably wont be the most accurate but this area is absolutely insane. Probably one of the most competitive in the state ngl.

i believe the current plan is if the rain becomes a real problem, the contest will continue on sunday or monday, and if for whatever reason there is a conflict there they will just pull ranks from prelims. i dont think that's very likely though, last time they did that was years ago because there was a conflict with their backup plan.

Seems like a few years ago in C there was a tie and only one advanced but could be wrong.

yes, I believe it was a tie between Boyd and Prosper in 2022, and Boyd advanced to state

As a McKinney person, it feels we see rain once or twice a year outside of December where it rains but never snows, the forecast says rain but Id bet money that itll be light sprinkles until later in the evening, in which prelims results will be used. Normally I would be against prelims results being used but realistically its not going to determine much difference outside of ties (less chances) or finalists, which again wont matter if finals is rained out.

It would suck since no retreat or anything, but theres lightning on Monday and Sunday, so I would rather have the safety of the students over forcing finals to happen in the scenario it rains a lot

As much as I’d be great to see Boyd this high, I don’t really see it happening. I think they’re got a chance of 6th, but Prosper is still as good as last year, and Wylies having their best season yet. Is it possible for someone else to take that 4th spot, 100%, but it’ll probably be one of those two in the end.

And I don’t think in anyway Prosper stole Boyd’s spot at state. They had an extremely strong and powerful show, and weren’t even than far off from finals

Ill be in San Antonio for a bit starting Saturday so I will unfortunately miss this bloodbath, but I see it going down as follows:

1. Hebron

2. Flower Mound

3. Marcus

4. Wylie

5. Prosper

Next Few: Mckinney, Braswell, Rock Hill

I can see 1-3 being fluid, but I do still think Hebron has the better show. I also could see Prosper edging out Wylie, but it will be difficult in my opinion.

Only 4 bands from the insane lineup is criminal, but maybe at least one more would be able to go with a tie.

I honestly have no clue who is taking that last spot for this area 😅

But isn’t that part of what makes this art form so great?  These bands are all so close to each other in talent, and drive,  and quality.  These kids put forth so much effort and skill - and honestly do their damndest to be the best that they can be!  Isn’t it awesome that we have public school teachers who dedicate themselves to, not only teaching these kids the music skills, but also the teamwork, sacrifice, dedication and commitment  that it takes to to be part of something truly great!?!?

I truly am impressed of all of them - (these teachers) - of the programs they have built up over time, of the lives that they have influenced and molded in countless ways, and their unwillingness to demand less than the best efforts from their pupils.

It is something sorely missed from most in this day and age.

I stand in awe.

I mean, I wouldn’t say anything was ‘taken’ from anyone, but if someone will be blamed, just for the sake of consistency Wylie East took the 6th spot last year when boyd got 7th, and Prosper got 5th lol

Does it seem feasible that it could be a tie for fourth woth wylie and boyd? They both are cooking this year

Is it possible, yes. How realistic is it, probably not so. However, the numbers/judges have to work out perfectly, and this is assuming they beat all the other finalist which I don’t know, at least based off what I’ve seen, is super possible, but I’d be super happy if there was a tie regardless who it was, bc almost all of these bands are state worthy

Listen. I know that your band program missing out of finals is a devastating thing to happen to the entire program.. everyone feels like crap, but flat out saying that a band program single handedly took a state spot from another program is not fair to anyone. It makes the band that you are representing online look bad and gives you a bad wrap to your directors. All it takes is one of these band parents(which I guarantee you they stalk these forums) to email one of your directors.
I'm not even going to dive in detail about how wrong you are about the state spots being "stolen", because that's not the main purpose of this reply. Instead of boasting on the internet about why your band program should be placed higher than another band, maybe just let the work speak for itself. The judges were hired for a reason.

I didn't go to any of these schools, I graduated high school years ago and the sole purpose of my post was to put my thoughts out there, not to put any other band programs down. Prosper obviously had a strong show, they wouldn't have advanced if they didn't, but I know several schools have a bit of a "ranking rivalry" so to say, like Boyd and Prosper. 2022 Boyd went to state by a tiebreaker and 2023, Prosper got really far and Boyd didn't go by one spot. Either way, I apologize for coming off as rude or anything like that, but these are just things that I have heard through others in these forums and from members of the two bands.
