  1. Thank you TWHSParent. With all due respect to Band2013, I thought one band was not considered/included in the “biggest gains” statement.
  2. You are correct - about both points of your last statement. I’m not sure anyone can explain the 34 ordinal but the judge. A point about TW - They performed at 8:30 am (first of the contest). The BOA judges are used to evaluating 30+ bands on a single day and utilizing that experience to fairly compare all bands hours apart. The judges at state marching contest rarely IF EVER judge 40 groups and have to place that many in order from first to last across 12+ hours. Because of that and the fact that the “music” and “marching’ sheets give the adjudicator very broad discretion to assign a score, I can RARELY HAVE ANY CONFIDENCE IN THE ACCURACY OF STATE PRELIMINARY SCORING. I feel bad for Round Rock, for The Woodlands, and for all bands at this contest. I’m not sure that the structure of this contest will ever assure fair adjudicating unless many changes are made.
  3. Keep in mind this is “kinda” the same system used at Grand Nats prelims - Thursday panel vs Friday panel then Semis fillled same as today. I think it will all work out ok
  4. I will tell you that band directors and people who don’t judge BOA / DCI often don’t have the experience to “accurately” score achievement based on the “Box 1-5 type” caption judging. Evaluating BOA scores with any other contest is is like comparing apples to oranges. Points will never be comparable.
  5. Hopefully so. TxBanders will have to help us out. Should be an interesting day.
  6. Sad to hear no live blog from Conroe this year☹️
  7. I’m curious though; how much of a financial investment are we talking about?
  8. The mic-ing of the entire band was something I️ noticed sitting in sec 441 for semis and 239 for finals. According to my recollection and verified by the jolesch photos used for the txband live blog (which was great btw), there were three finalist bands who utilized full band mics - Avon (already mentioned); Marian Catholic (7 between 22 1/2 yard lines with one the 50); and Marcus (6 between the 35s). These mics were in the range of 6 to 8 feet tall. Yes, completely within the rules, or more accurately, not against the rules. My strong preference is a solid NO for this practice. Does it make a difference; absolutely. Nothing brings out oooohs and aaahhs from the crowd (and music GE judges) than huge impact points.
