  1. I decided to check out the marching band scene out here in Colorado. A review of what I saw can be found here http://content.txbands.com Enjoy, and let me know what you think
  2. Who are some of your favorite trumpet players? A few of mine are: Arturo Sandoval, Alison Balsom, Allen Vizzutti, Mark Gould, Clark Terry, and Ron miles. Theres a boatload others I love listening to these are just some of my favorites
  3. QUOTE (MaverickBand15 @ Oct 1 2007, 08:20 PM) I am looking at the smaller schools like University of Houston, University of North Texas, University of Texas at Arlington....and of course the not small school...The University of Texas at Austin. Well as far as music schools, I wouldnt put UNT in the small school category at all. ITs one of the biggest music schools in the nation
  4. I don't want to be a band director but I do want to teach in some capacity. I'm doing music performance right now and I plan on teaching lessons in the future. I also might be teching with a local marching band either this year or next
  5. QUOTE (JustAddWat3r @ Sep 26 2007, 06:18 PM) so u still perform in the rain? hmm wonder how that works for woodwind instruments...and pit.... As long as there isn't any lightning they band just keeps going... I remember at the DCI West regional in Lubock this summer the boston crusaders finished their intro and Dan potter announced them of the field. I believe the rest of the regional was cancelled
  6. After reading the press release I'd say its a great idea as well
  7. QUOTE (Nancy08 @ Sep 23 2007, 06:08 PM) Wow there are more people interested in composition than I would have thought. I'm DEFINATELY doing band in college. If everything works out perfectly I want to double (or triple) major in composition and engineering and/or architecture and/or just plain math. After I get my bachelor's degree I want to pursue my doctorate in composition, though I don't know how far I'll get. I just applied to UNT this weekend, and I'm pretty sure that's where I'll end up going at least for undergrad studies... your going to be in school for a loooong long time
  8. QUOTE (bossman @ Sep 20 2007, 07:22 AM) well i would love that too, but if it were to come back; how would we get to watch them??? Youtube/video google. Or buy the DVDs
  9. QUOTE (bossman @ Sep 20 2007, 07:26 AM) I think 1987 scouts. I'm sure you would know more than me. Thats just what an alumni told me
  10. QUOTE (SerialSleeper90 @ Sep 18 2007, 07:19 PM) Man the all black and empty surroundings made me kinda anxious... I'm still scarred from those "maze games" and "funny R&B lyrics" jokes I've fallen for... like 5 times. *shudders* Still... very very touching. Nah. I think one of those type of pranks on a 9/11 related thing would be very unclassy. And I would definitely not post it if that was the case. For what its worth, I believe this is the 1979 Madison Scouts. dont quote me on that though
  11. But I thought this was really cool http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/911tribute/index.htm give it a minute to load
  12. I'm currently doing music performance at the University of Denver. The best part: No football team. No football team = no marching band =)
  13. QUOTE (bossman @ Aug 28 2007, 08:53 PM) I love when ppl can speak for me(about something i performed). That's cool to know that ppl remember your show. You know, I'm kind of upset. Your show , with the exception of crossmen, was the only show I didnt get to see live this year...
  14. QUOTE (Danpod @ Aug 28 2007, 08:19 PM) I think that would be a great idea for Grand Nationals. On the other hand, actually making that happen would be a HUGE feat, considering that the only time to do it would be after Friday Prelims. Yeah. The other problem is how long it would take. How many age outs are their in about 50 or so drum corps compared to the number of seniors in about 90 bands... I think we had about 70 seniors last year. THats about 3 times as many as there were in Blue stars
  15. Mahler #2 - This piece usually puts me in a good mood. And its 90 minutes long so I usually dont get sick of listening to one part. Elsas Procession to the Cathedral- favorite wind band piece Lux Arumque- Lots of sentimental value Chorale and Alleluia by Howard Hanson
  16. QUOTE (thesnareguy @ Aug 20 2007, 07:59 PM) They have Murray Gusseck there too. that explains a lot
  17. Yeah for their first year in Div. 1 they put on a great show. Sorry if that post sounded so negative
  18. Well I personally had them ahead of spirit, but I thought their hornline was very bright and top heavy. And the show was much much easier than ours... I suppose I'm a tad biased though
  19. EDIT***** Ok I'm not sure whats up here but I definitely write this post. Not sure how someone else would have access to my account but I dont appreciate them using it
  20. QUOTE (mbui @ Aug 16 2007, 10:34 PM) Both bands transcending the activity in their respective era. haha...
  21. QUOTE (barisaxy08 @ Aug 16 2007, 09:42 PM) to me it was kinda hard to beat out the Cavie's "machine"...that was honestly a memory maker in my book Yeah but other than that and the top 3 shows I didnt think last year was very memorable. This year seemed to have a lot more consistency top to bottom
  22. QUOTE (smoke_dawg_08 @ Aug 16 2007, 08:44 PM) are you kidding it came to down to finals to see who'd win, between the top three, then bluecoats going down to 7th and Vanguard and PR jumping up like crazy, it was amazing Not to mention places like 8-14th battling it out all summer
