True, but Poteet's arrangement is faster, in a higher key, and includes many technical passages that Sherman's arrangement does not.

While Poteet does tend to recycle visuals and some "trademark" drill, I don't think it's accurate to call their show easy. Demand on the performer is VERY high. Those kids do not slow down and do not stop playing. On top of the physical demands of the show, they probably had one of the most difficult musical books of the finalist bands along with Dickinson and Friendswood. I would say the overall difficulty of the drill was probably on the high end with Friendswood. Of course, this is all based on videos of the bands from various points in the season, but I doubt overall design changed very much. The only area of the show that is not overly difficult is the guard work. They are very clean, but they do not use varied eqipment or perform tosses.

For real. Directors know other directors. Heck, Pearce is in the same school district as Berkner. Granted Frank Troyka didn't wind up judging Pearce at state, but I don't think he would have been hired if it was a big deal.

Yeah, I think Sherman's problem was much simpler. Word from the dome is that the percussion significantly overbalanced the rest of the band which probably hurt the music score. I can't attest to the two tenths in marching but the music scores make sense in that respect.

Yeah. A friend of mine in the Alamodome swore to me up and down that The Colony was in and Connally was out no matter what I told her.

I don't doubt that they weren't bad. It's not like they made a 4 at region. I'm just a bit disturbed that three judges can unanimously declare a band not worthy of advancement to area and then that band winds up 22nd at state. I don't think regions should be required to advance two bands to area. And I also think that under no circumstances should 2/3 of the bands at one area contest advance to state, especially one where only half of the bands in attendance made a 1 at region.

Seven Lakes. No disrespect to the band, but something clearly went wrong in the system along the way to the top. I think we need to get rid of those weird region/area advancement requirements and/or realign areas again.

So a band makes straight 2's at region marching contest, advances to state after some bizarre scoring at area, and then does not place last at SMBC. I have a problem with that.

What? Summit was 13 rank points ahead of Mansfield in finals.

After watching Hendrickson on video, I agree that they sounded great. I still haven't seen everyone, but I have a hard time believing that 9th in music was justified. However, they had some ensemble marching issues, even when some sections weren't playing. That is probably what kept them out of the top 3. Cleaner forms probably would have upped those marching scores. EDIT: Well scratch that. Even if both marching judges had Hendrickson 1st, they would have come in 4th.

Haha! I can't believe I misspelled Pflugerville. I think I was just overly excited last night. So I predicted none of the finals placements correctly. That's what I get for bragging about my predictions after prelims.

So the Phlugerville schools flip-flopped. Interesting. I'm pretty surprised to see Sherman in 10th. I guess I need to see performances before I can make further comment on that.

OMG!!!!! Yay!!!!! And I'm thrilled to see Dickinson get a medal for the first time in ten years. Awesome job guys! And also mad props to Connally for turning a shaky season into your highest state placement ever!!!

I really think it was worse this year. Last time Poteet was first in prelims with three 1st's and two 2nd's and I think the other two 1st's went to 2nd place Friendswood. This time even the time was all over the place.

It is all over the place. This is probably the wildest rank spread I've seen in 4A prelims. No disrespect to my alma mater, but when the first place band has only one first place vote, there is a problem.

Wow! Top 4 within 4 rank points. That's hard core.

Finalists: Aledo Friendswood Sherman Dickinson Roma Poteet Connally Vista Ridge Hendrickson Dripping Springs 9/10 for me in predictions. Not too bad. Poteet and Hendrickson were the top 2 in prelims. We should have full results shortly. Oh, and kudos to Area D for placing all 4 bands in finals!

Not true. Keller, Pflugerville, and Midland have all advanced to 5A state this decade. Heck, Keller advanced last year when Westlake didn't.

Yeah, it may be hard for Bell to come out on top on Friday just because of the sheer number of bands going after them. I don't think it will keep them out of the top 11. What really matters is that they pwn everyone on Saturday.
