  1. Roma is another dark horse. They barely missed Super Regional Finals in 2005 and they are gunning for a 4A state championship. I would love to see them sneak in.
  2. I would like to give a shout out to the nine bands who qualified for both 4A State Marching Contest and the state round of the Honor Band Competition. These groups deserve tremendous recognition for displaying excellence both on the marching field and in the concert hall. They are: Aledo Alice Centennial The Colony Dickinson Hendrickson J. J. Pearce Poteet Roma And special recognition should also go to 2005 State Honor Band Friendswood High School who was not eligible for this year's Honor Band Competition, but is still a dominant force in both concert and marching band.
  3. So what does everyone think will go down next Tuesday (please limit the self-hype)? My predicted 4A finalists (alpha order): Aledo Connally Dickinson Dripping Springs Friendswood Hendrickson King Poteet Roma Sherman On the Bubble: Azle, Centennial, The Colony, Fossil Ridge, J. J. Pearce, Saginaw, Vista Ridge That was kind of hard to do. Gah, this is a really wild year. And I know next to nothing about the other two classifications. Argyle used to be the easy choice for 2A but now they've moved up.
  4. Yeah, a lot of it is pretty weird. Just be flexible and focus on giving a great performance in spite of all the chaos.
  5. Yes, 10 bands will be in finals. You'll probably be able to see most of Dickinson from the side. After your prelims performance you take pictures in the seats right by the end zone on the right side of the field. You climb into the seats right after performing and get pictures right before the next band performs. I doubt you'll be done before Dickinson starts.
  6. I think Plano East or Allen would win before Plano Senior would......
  7. Your band probably was assigned 7th at first, but the addition of two extra bands from Area E kind of messed up the original draw. Most bands were bumped up a slot or two.
  8. The schedule will supposedly be available late this afternoon. That probably means after school for all you high school kiddos.
  9. I like that it gives everyone a clean slate. It gives more room for upsets (like Coppell shooting from 7th to 1st in 1999.) However, I was shocked at how little the placements changed between prelims and finals at the last 4A state comp.
  10. I think it will be on the UIL website tomorrow.
  11. Let's not forget that the first two bands to march state prelims in 05 were Friendswood and Poteet, who remained the top 2 all day long. Poteet performs 17th in prelims and I thought J. J. Pearce performed 7th but that seems to conflict with the Hendrickson info.
  12. I think they're probably more excited about advancing to state marching contest for the first time in 10+ years than about getting one first place vote in area prelims. Go Pearce!!!! I'm incredibly happy to see them doing well again.
  13. Prelims: Poteet 2 1 1 1 1 J. J. 14. Here it is: Area A: Azle Boswell Fossil Ridge Saginaw Area B: Aledo Centennial The Colony Sherman Area C: J. J. Pearce Poteet Area D: Connally Dripping Springs Hendrickson Vista Ridge Area E: Brenham Foster Seven Lakes Waller Area F: Dickinson Friendswood Little Cypress-Mauriceville Area G: Alice Boerne King Roma Congrats to all! State will be very exciting.
  15. Oh, I had no idea of any ranks. I was just listing who I heard had advanced.
  16. Sherman The Colony Aledo Centennial Or at least I think that's right. Any confirmation?
  17. Area C: Poteet J. J. Pearce Alternate: Lindale I should know more pretty soon. Poteet swept it in finals and Pearce had one first in prelims. I saw Waxahachie in prelims and I am SHOCKED they didn't make finals.
  18. Best of luck to everyone! I'm headed to Memorial Stadium in a bit to catch the first block of 4A Area C prelims. I'll keep my fingers crossed for everyone.
  19. Yes! That's right! I saw them at the North Texas Marching Contest. If I remember correctly, they were pretty doggone good that year. Unfortunately I have no recording.
  20. Am I crazy or has Coppell already marched to Tchaikovsky's 4th? They've done something Tchaikovsky before, but I can't remember exactly what it was......
  21. My music taste is pretty eclectic, but I've been on an impressionist kick lately. I'm kind of obsessed with Ravel right now. Daphnis et Chloe = brilliance.
  22. Don't worry! It's too late for that now. Nederland was the only one to pull out, which reduced the count to 15. You guys will still advance three.
  23. True that. Advancement should be based on the number of bands who qualified for area, not just who decides to show up. The same is true for Area A who lost a state slot today as well.
  24. REGION 3: 3A Kemp 2 2 2 Ford-Quinlan 2 1 2 Wills Point 1 1 1 Eustace 2 2 2 Commerce 1 2 1 Mabank 1 1 1 Royse City 2 1 1 Crandall 3 2 2 Kaufman 1 1 1 Rains 3 4 3 Canton 1 1 1 5A Rowlett 1 1 1 Lake Highlands 1 1 1 John Horn 2 1 1 South Garland 1 1 2 North Mesquite 2 2 1 Naaman Forest 1 1 1 Richardson 1 1 1 Mesquite 1 1 1 Lakeview 1 1 2 Garland 2 2 1 North Garland 3 3 2 Rockwall 1 2 1 Sachse 1 1 1 Berkner 1 1 1
  25. Hmm......I'd probably put McCallum in that 10th spot. Best of luck to you guys on Saturday!
