  1. Dripping Springs: Congratulations! Really enjoying the visual package being presented by this show. There’s a lot going on, so it’s hard to catch everything. Brass sounds strong, and really impressed with the high brass and their articulation. Fun clarinet Quartet! I love the engagement with the props throughout this entire show, adds a lot of depth to the overall shows effect. I can’t remember if I’ve ever seen more than one flugel on a field before, but the trio + flute is really beautiful. Minor intonation issues in the ballad. I enjoy that the band can be clumped on one portion of the field, and it doesn’t feel like any space is wasted based off the staging. Music in the closer is super well written, and love the power being brought here. Good job!
  2. Prosper: This show has definitely grown on me. Love the opening statement by the French horns into the full ensemble moment. It was really fun watching the left side French Horn player smile and laugh, just having a good time on their finals run. Really enjoy the contrast between the guard and band uniforms. Think there were some slight mic issues (could just be the stream) with the English horn solo, but still such a great moment and that player has extremely good tone. Really wish there was a bit more interaction with the props. Enjoying the percussion feature, some crazy good chops. Overall great run from these folks, hope y’all had a blast.
  3. Good afternoon 6A! Super excited for finals. Assume this will be the most stable the website will be for a few hours, so goodluck to everyone!
  4. Finals schedule: 8:15 - Cooper 8:30 - Rosebud-Lott 8:45 - Shiner 9:00 - Lockney 9:15 - Sundown 9:30 - Ropes 9:45 - Rivercrest
  5. I also echo this sentiment, with a few friends I have that judge these competitions. They commonly express how mentally taxing it can sometimes be since they don't want to "screw it up". These judges put care and focus into each time they rank and score each band, and they have each bands best interest at heart, which is why they are apart of this activity. There are some absolute legends that get to adjudicate some of these contests, so I will always trust what they say over my Minor in Music
  6. I agree, this would be crossing a very strange line.. There is subjectivity in a lot of judging, and sometimes you have to remember that the goal of a prelims is to get the right bands to finals, which I think in this case they did...Was there some weird scores, sure, but there is usually never a contest that has "perfect scoring", which is the exact reason that multiple judges are used, to average out.
  7. Good morning 2A! Excited to watch prelims today!
  8. Congratulations to the bands who advanced to state finals, as well as all of the 6A state qualifying bands! I wanna hold off on a full retrospective until after finals, but excited to watch finals tomorrow! Good luck to everyone performing tomorrow!

  10. Outstanding showing from Vandegrift. With the day this band has had, they did not let it change the effort they put out. Great job band!
  11. Was lowkey falling asleep and Dawson just woke me up, great opening hit!!!
  12. Moe & Gene with an excellent display of refined articulation in their opener!
  13. Coppell had one of my favorite ballads of the day. Clarinet player had some really nice tone, and an overall beautiful moment.
  14. Wax has some really good writing for this show, I thought I have seen this but I do not remember this! Kinda sounds like I am walking into Gotham City. Great job!
  15. Gutted for these members and anyone involved… I am glad everyone is okay first and foremost, but dang this must be a stressful logistical nightmare to try to pull together everything before performing but hope everything works out.
  16. I was going to say, that timpanist looked like they were having a blast.
  17. Great showing from Marcus! Always love listening to the percussion chops in this group. Also beautiful brass quartet in the ballad, really enjoyed this.
  18. Bridgeland definitely brought their best. Love the closer, what a beautiful way to end the show. Another crazy talented group competing for a spot in finals. Outstanding run!
  19. Yeah I don't think I will be able to get out band-by-band updates with the website traffic and work stuff. BUT NORTH SHORE?!?!?! To me, I think this is a potential finalist...Completely not on my radar, but incredibly clean, super strong sounds, great articulation. I think by UIL standards, this should perform very well. Wow! Great job.
  20. Have had quite a few meetings this morning, so missed some shows. Back for Hebron! Hebron: Super clean! HIGH BRASS. Crazy double/triple tonguing! Rich and strong sounds. Technically demanding music🔥Cool drill.
  21. Dickinson: Props staring at me. Woodwind runs! Articulation. Nice ballad. Colorful guard flags.
  22. JBA: Tubas! Full field staging. Clarinet and Sax runs! Strong!
