I don’t want to dox myself but I had an interesting conversation a few days ago with a friend of mine who has judged this contest. He said the road noise from 380 makes this a very hard contest to judge. He said unless the band is blasting, you cannot hear it clearly. All the quiet moments get lost. I knew the scuttlebutt this year was that the judging here was inconsistent. Figured what he said, if true, make sense.

According to Facebook, the Wills Point band made a 1 and will advance. They performed today in mesquite with 3A and 5A. The rest of region 3 will be decided tomorrow. I have not seen them at all this year. I believe they have a new director.

Man, you really hate a lot of bands, lol. Celina’s show is incredibly challenging. Some of the hardest music I’ve heard all year. I haven’t seen their full show yet as they didn’t march all the sets at Princeton or Melissa. I’m sure the remaining drill and choreo is plenty challenging. Both North Lamar and Canton have gone through some changes in the past decade with long-time directors leaving and/or retiring. I really do not think Canton will place very high but I have lots of hope for North Lamar. I know nothing about Lumberton other than what I saw last year at state.

I agree with your assessments! I’m not kidding, North Lamar looked stellar Friday night. They’ve come a long way. I would love to see them finish above SS because their show is much more challenging. we haven’t seen celina and Farmersville go face to face yet this season I don’t think. It’ll be a great Saturday for sure!

They are performing tomorrow with the 3a and 5A bands. Must’ve had a scheduling issue.

I get it. Their show is exciting. I just don’t think it is executed well.

I know PT performed poorly at Princeton but the judging of that contest was all over the place. I was told one school was ranked second place by all judges except for one who ranked them dead last. I can’t remember if that school was Celina or Sherman. I think PT has a shot to make finals but I think qualifying for state will be challenging for them.

I don’t think they will get first but they have improved dramatically in the past few weeks.

My thoughts exactly. Only band to see in B is Panther Creek and I think they are a definite for area champs. I still think celina will pull off the win in area C but the rest is up for grabs.

I will be there most of the day. I went back and forth between going to Area B or C but I think C will be more exciting.

Panther Creek is Frisco ISD. So, no.

Celina’s show is called Royals or Royalty. Something like that, I think the later NL is El Toreador.

I love Mineola and they are SO talented! Definitely going to change things up.

This is my assumption as well. No penalty at non-UIL contests. Penalty at UIL contests.

What is Westlake’s show this year?

Celina beat Libery this past Saturday at Melissa. We will see if they can do it again. I would like to see Canton over Sulphur. Pine Tree had a really bad run at their contest yesterday. I saw a video of their performance and it was definitely much better at the football game. Hopefully it will work out better for them at Princeton.

It’s because musicality and marching clean win now. They are basically a marching concert band and that show is a hard one this year. Sure SS and CS are exciting, but there are a lot of bad sounds and sloppy marching. Can they clean it up and do well later in the season? Absolutely!
