    Rankings for 5A bands at MMF. Frothing at the mouth to see where MISD bands ranked (their ranks are not provided bc they were exhibition).

    Love the Pirate band so I hope they can clean this up. Really difficult music book and awesome show concept. Can’t wait to see how they develop closer to Area.

    Holy…..WM seriously is coming for that state spot. Great ensemble sound, amazing percussion, and once drill is finished for the closer it’s going to be epic. Wow!!

    Honestly, it’s very unrealistic that everyone will get a 1 because of the DISD schools. We might even end up with only 3 spots given how inconsistent some bands are, e.g. Bryan Adams, Desoto, Naaman Forest. Best case scenario is 5 state spots if bands that got 2s last year, e.g. Crandall, Greenville, South Garland, improved and got 1s this year. For the sake of wishful thinking, if there were 6 spots, I think the same top 6 from last year would be the 6 this year, with HP being the first out.

    Good find. If everyone got a one, we’d have 6 bands going to state but alas… DISD……:/

    I think HP has a shot at state and should be higher. Also, idk if MPHS is in the running to win Area. Not to discount them, but a lot of people are blinded by all the props and amazing guard. I think the production shifts attention from the easy drill, that they mostly flutter and don’t march most sets, and they stay in the front portion of the field for most of the show. Musically, while playing a demanding music book, they aren’t very clean.

    Wait…tea. It’s insane that they have enough people to make a whole other band with alternates. And now knowing that the run in that video is just alternates, it makes me wonder how the competitive group sounds bc tbh that run sounded pretty on par for this early in the season. The directors there being willing to cut the band in half shows how serious they are about making a state run.

    Who is going to state? My guess is a mix of these bands: NM, WM, Poteet, LCHS, HPHS, MPHS. If more DISD bands got ones more of them would be going *sigh*

    I’ve seen only seen clips and leaks from summer band. They look and sound very strong. Seems like the band grew significantly in numbers, too (they appear to have four drum majors now also). Given that they got 2nd at Area prelims last year and their continued rise, they are definitely in the running for a state spot, but again this year is a toss up and we will get a better picture of the top contenders later this season.

    Video of Kaufman. Can def see HP eclipsing them even though they seem on track. Also, thoughts on Kaufman being “inspired” by North Mesquite’s show from last year (same theme and music)? lol

    The competitiveness of this area is def heating up. Saw HP and like a previous post mentioned, they are small but quite mighty. Top 5 are going to be very close

    WM leak. Appears to be from a rehearsal. The sax soloist is great and so is their ensamble sound. Love the brass and the 1812 overture teaser.     Poteet leak. They sound awesome particularly the woodwinds at the beginning. Music book is really cool too but it does seem that timing issues from past years persist. Def feels like they are coming for that top spot at area.

    Any updates for the bands in this area? How was summer band?

    Usually think it’s premature to rank before summer band even starts but think this list is flawed. Some things to keep in mind are that: (1) West Mesquite got 2nd place during Area prelims so this might be their year breaking into state and their percussion program is exceptional, which helps with music ranking; (2) Poteet has been inconsistent in the past few years; (3) North Mesquite is by contrast consistently out performing others in the Area; (4) Kaufman’s music book and drill is usually easier than others; (5) HP lost directors and has been on the decline; (6) MP has an amazing guard and engaging show concept year to year but is often not clean and inconsistent; (7) Terrell has been improving significantly in the past couple of seasons. I think the list below is more realistic: 1: North Mesquite 2: West / Poteet 3: West / Poteet 4: Lakeview Centennial 5: MP / Kaufman 6: MP / Kaufman 7: Terrell 8: HP
