  1. No, the answer is that DISD is in Area C and 5A DISD band consistently make 2,3,and even 4s at UIL region. A good chunk of bands making less than a 1 results in less state spots. Hopefully after there are more bands that can add state spots after realignment.
  2. Would be BIG if both RISD schools make state. do you have the full prelims breakdown?
  3. So if SG got 1s (and if I counted correctly) that means we’re exactly at 20 bands with a 1 and get 4 state spots!!!! Prediction: 1. Poteet 2. NM 3. LC/ WM 4. LC / WM
  4. Crandall got all 1s so we just need one of Greenville, SG, or NF to get 1s
  5. UPDATE: SUNSET GOT A 1!!!! Congrats to the students there!!! Per my previous post, now only 2 of the four bands I listed need 1s for us to get 4 state spots.
  6. I hope this won’t be the case but Bryan Adams, Desoto, and Wilson have all received 2s. Molina and South Oak Cliff earned 3s. Now, three of the following four MUST receive 1s for 4 bands to advance: Naaman Forest (1s in 2024), Crandall (2 in 2024), Greenville (2s in 2024), and South Garland (2s in 2024). There are other DISD bands that could get 1s but it’s not realistic, e.g. Samuel and Jefferson.
  7. I think John Horn has a chance at finals this year. Huge sound and they look pretty clean.

  9. I think we should brace ourselves for the real possibility of only 3 state spots…
  10. HP also has harder drill despite being half the size. I suspect those other responses are from mp students. It has become exhausting engaging with people that cannot remove their personal feelings from discussions of objective things like difficulty and demand of a school’s drill and music. Difficulty is in fact objective, just look at how concert music is graded by difficulty. Or the objective truth that Hebron, for example plays harder music and marches more difficult drill than all 5A and 6A in this Area. Additionally, let’s look at the score sheets that judges will look at during Area. The following are measures that judges use to rank bands: frequency/demand of movement while playing (mp mostly stands still while playing); suitability of content, which measures execution and demand of the drill (which as discussed, mp may execute well but the demand is not there. Including score sheets and guidance to judges by the UIL’s own manual on judging.
  11. Love this show!! It’s so entertaining. I just feel conflicted because they rarely even march and mostly flutter to spots. Their drill is definitely much simpler than other bands. I wonder if there is any penalty or rather if other bands are ranked higher for marching due to difficulty.
  12. Yall can spout on about “conflicts of interest” but based on the UIL’s own guidelines, there is none here. That should be the end of the discussion. Additionally, the outrage is premature given that Area hasn’t even happened yet. Y’all are just speculating and making assumptions. Finally, if all MISD bands make state, that means other judges also would have scored them highly. A band should not be faulted for things beyond their control, like which judges are selected.
  13. 🚨Judging panel dropped🚨
  14. This is spot on. An additional nuance is that (if I’m not mistaken) WM placed 3rd and above Lakeview in prelims. WM also got second in prelims at Area last year. It seems that they do better earlier in the day, so they should be sure to rest throughout the day of Area. I think Poteet will get Area champs this year because they have done a good job of cleaning their show and executing their difficult music book. prediction: 1. Poteet 2. NM 3. Lakeview 4. WM 5. MP/ Kaufman
  15. Can someone there update with the *accurate* finals results pleaseeee ty lol
  16. yeah, the more they progress, I see Poteet getting area champs again and maybe getting close to finals at state
  17. Wait I’m so confused bc WM just posted that they got first in prelims 😭what’s the truth???!
  18. This feels like rage bait lol. (1) Poteet literally beat HP this past weekend (2) NM is the two-year defending area champ so saying “it’s their year” is odd lol (3) it’s going to be really close this year but HP is def not getting second lol.
  19. Red Oak @ Crowley. The crowd sounds really hyped over them. They might improve their placement at finals this year. Not sure about a state spot though.
  20. HP got second and beat Kaufman. WM beat Royse City and got fourth (beat by Celina, Sulphur Springs and Frisco liberty) MP did not go to comp (as far as I know) this area is def a toss up but I think all Mesquite schools will get a state spot and the last will go to either LC or MP.
