  1. Usually think it’s premature to rank before summer band even starts but think this list is flawed. Some things to keep in mind are that: (1) West Mesquite got 2nd place during Area prelims so this might be their year breaking into state and their percussion program is exceptional, which helps with music ranking; (2) Poteet has been inconsistent in the past few years; (3) North Mesquite is by contrast consistently out performing others in the Area; (4) Kaufman’s music book and drill is usually easier than others; (5) HP lost directors and has been on the decline; (6) MP has an amazing guard and engaging show concept year to year but is often not clean and inconsistent; (7) Terrell has been improving significantly in the past couple of seasons. I think the list below is more realistic: 1: North Mesquite 2: West / Poteet 3: West / Poteet 4: Lakeview Centennial 5: MP / Kaufman 6: MP / Kaufman 7: Terrell 8: HP
  2. West Mesquite is confirmed per their website calendar. Anyone else??
  3. Highland Park is also losing their head director… jeez
  4. Following up bc I found out their show music: show title: Turn Back Time - If I could turn back time by Cher - Livin’ on a Prayer by Bon Jovi - Fur Elise - Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler -Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen - Everybody by the Backstreet boys - Can Can by Offenbach - 1812 Overture finale by Tchaikovsky This is a WILDDD list. If they can pull off 1812 then this comp is going to be super interesting!! excited to see what they do with this!!
  5. After some snooping, it looks like West Mesquite announced their show last night. Seems to be about time or rock and roll?? Does anyone have insight into this?
  6. This 100%!!! Especially since WM got second place at Area prelims, I can see them coming back with absolute vengeance and intensity. On top of that, they have just risen so much year to year so I’m excited to see what they do. Overall, the competitiveness of this Area definitely is heating up. it would be cool to see all three MISD 5A schools advance to state, too.
  7. Anyone have the full list of finals and rankings?
  8. And while Mount Pleasant did well and their show is entertaining, it still needs A LOT of cleaning.
  9. I think the fourth spot is going to be between Texas and West now. PT’s ensamble sound isn’t as mature IMO.
  10. Interesting results from the US Bands comp this weekend. Does this change anyones predication about Pine Tree?
  11. It doesn’t matter how many show up to area; what matters is how many QUALIFY. It’s one band per 5 that qualify. So, this area will have 4 spots for state.
  12. We may be witnessing the making of a Leander ISD in Area C if Mesquite is able to pull off taking 3/4 spots. Incredible.
  13. 4 going to state out of this competition is going to make it VERY interesting. The only program that’s for sure is Forney. Every other spot is going to be very competitive. As someone with no skin in this game, it would be cool and historic to see all Mesquite ISD 5A programs make state.
  14. Where did you get the Royse City prelims results and the Mesquite Marching festival rankings for MISD?
  15. They got a new head director that was the feeder ms director for North Mesquite. She’s been doing some awesome stuff at west. The high brass and percussion are really giving it some edge over other programs.
  16. Prediction: Forney NM Poteet West/pine tree Texas Red Oak
  17. To be fair, North’s drill is pretty easy. Music is super clean and great but I think the drill and GE has to be improved.
  18. Agree. And west may be the alternate. Crazy and exiting for Mesquite ISD.
  19. 5A Area C might be more interesting this year than I thought...
  20. Red oak and Texas HS making area finals last year but getting beat by West Mesquite, who didn't make area finals, at Royse City this year is actually incredible. WOW, what a come up for West.
