Well at Bluecoats the guard audition was to 'Imagine' by John Lennon.

2008 BOA GN Finals!
radchad replied to Xenon's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I didn't get to go this year, so I was stuck watching it online. Carmel's music book did seem pretty easy... -
I know that when the Bluecoats perform after the Boston Crusaders, at least it used to be like this, the Boston Crusaders would hold their horns with their middle fingers sticking up. No class. I was somewhat angered by the way some of the Blue Devils were acting after they learned they received second place. *shakes head* They forget they are role models to a lot of young and old people.

Yeah. Even from the stands you could tell how angry the Blue Devils were. I was a little shocked at how they acted. And I agree. Second place Corps must always be the classiest.

Bell 2006. I have been a long time fan of marching band, but it wasn't until I saw this show that I truly understood why I loved the activity so much. I first saw it at the Arlington Regional that year, and the stands were so quiet.. no one moved no one said a word. The show had everyone drawn in. The eerie trumpet at the beginning, the odd organ notes, the somewhat-psycho guard. It gave me chills. Kids in the stands were crying because it was so creepy. Never in my life had I seen a show(except Phantom Regiment 1996) that gave me such a strong feeling of emotion. The music blew my mind. It remains one of my favorite marching shows of all time. Plymouth-Canton 2001. My cousin was in that band that year, and being the only kid in the family taking an interest in music, my uncle allowed me to come watch. That show was definitely an eye-opener for me. So much visual-craziness. The visuals were awesome and not to mention they sounded great and I can still tell you all about the show. The show kept my attention from start to end. (Also, the whole band was just.. professional. They were all so cool and down to earth.) Yep. Marcus 2006. Okay okay. I have been really harsh on Marcus over the years, but I have to say this show really remains a favorite of mine. I was very skeptical at first, considering the sea horses and whatnot. But as I saw the show progress, I actually got over that stuff and listened to the music. The musical selections were fantastic, and the musicality was tremendous. Loved the addition of the fish flags during the fish hatchery. Visually it was impecable. Definitely a favorite. (I know you said only 3 but I had to add another.) Yet another I am slightly hesitant to admit.. Carmel 2002. Metal. This show was action packed and just slightly bizarre. The music was awesome and some of the sound effects were great. The drill was great and the rock out part during Iron Man really got my attention. Electric Guitar FTW. Even though I have seen better shows, this show has remained a favorite of mine simply because it was very entertaining. I may be kinda harsh when it comes to technical stuff, but some shows I love on pure fact that they are entertaining.

[Major Event] UIL State Contest
radchad replied to Xenon's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Marcus had a great show but I found the Zues section to be a little.. lackluster. I mean, each section was so big and emotional, then Zeus comes out and it's like.. here I am.. the end. Still a fantastic show. I was surprised to see Coppell so high, but then I remembered it was UIL. Even though their drill is somewhat easier than most, it's very clean and they know how to play. Congrats to them. The only thing that bothered me about the scoring was the inconsistency of the judgings.. but that comes with almost every competition. -
Me too. I am so angry. I only have two years left to be able to march, and I haven't played in a few months. I couldn't do band this semester because of scheduling and money, and I don't have an instrument(baritone). :\ I am pretty upset about it.

That was '06 Blue Devils.

Judges?
radchad replied to Trumpetman27's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Yeah, you definitely said it. Okay, I don't understand... Who was that judge? Either the judge was off, the judge had no idea what they were talking about, or it was an extremely biased opinion. -

It just a matter of perspective. Some shows are meant for a lot of playing and marching while others aren't. If you do a show that isn't, you just gotta make sure the parts that do move are CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN and that you have the music to back it all up. This is a very good show. It's not meant to move around too much, and that's how I view it. -

I don't think the guard completely took over. I just think the guard was so good, it was hard to not watch them. -

Lol. Definitely the A guard. This is only my second year ever in winterguard. I am still a music guy all the way though. I am doing guard mainly just for learning. Someday when i am a band director, I want to understand how guard works and how it all comes together. I think it's given me more ability to view an ensemble as a whole. It's definitely a challenge and a huge learning experience. Matt Garrett has a lot going for him. He writes the marching drill, teaches the marching band, teaches a band, writes drill for other schools, writed the guard work and is the guard director, does the winterguard. The man does a lot. But I think considering how well Mansfield's guard did and all the spotlight they got, there is going to be a huge expectation for them in the winter season. -

Yeah. I can't wait to see Mansfield's winterguard. D: I too had Coppell ahead of Richland. Good! I think it's very hard for people who march guard, percussion, or band to appreciate(well.. more of be able to watch them and get into it) another section. Most drumline people I know onlt watch drumline, same with guard and band. But it's performances like the one they had the really makes you appreciate the hard work put on the field even more. Of course this is based only on the people I know. I am not trying to say this is true for everyone. -

Clements and Hays were VERY GOOD. I was thouroughly impressed. Eh. After prelims I kinda expected finals to have them omitted.. just by seeing the other bands that were there. Favorite part of finals: Southwest's drum break. They rocked it out.
