  1. More than likely if TC turns out with a strong enough performance then who they perform after won’t make a difference.
  2. How so? Do the school districts get paid more if bands participate in UIL? Who gets money for what?
  3. Some band didn’t go to boa San Antonio or State last year because of their grand nats plans so I expect this decision to impact that again.
  4. Hebron ✅ Flower Mound ✅ Marcus ✅ Sachse ❌ (-5) Wylie ❌ (+1) Rock Hill ❌ (-2) Prosper ✅ Rockwall ❌ (-3) Lewisville ❌ (-1) Wylie East❌ (+5) McKinney Boyd❌ (+5) Braswell ✅ By the way, here are the results of my analyses. I was 5/12 in putting each finalist band in the right placement, and was 4/6 in picking the right state qualifiers. I included checks and x’s to indicate which ones I got right and which ones I got wrong, as well as how far off I was.
  5. I watched @Danpod YouTube vid about the new UIL Legislations(love his channel btw!) and they’ve decided to make state annual for all conferences because the superintendents wanted that. Anyone know why the superintendents wanted this? And what are your thoughts on the decision?
  6. Coppell always performs pristinely and is a lock for state finals for me. Keller always bring that BIG Texas band sound wherever they go, I think they’re a lock for finals as well.
  7. Terrific musical skillsets all around, especially when played simultaneously with their choreography. They perform exceptionally well in extended phrases and are very clean marchers considering the complexity or their drill moves and formations. Great dynamic contrast, great balance and blend of voices, superb quality of sound in the upper register in the woodwinds. Lots of great stuff from Waxahachie
  8. Can someone explain what the “content” sub-caption means in music and visual?
  9. Looking at the scores I noticed that in prelims one music judge awarded Hebron perfect scores in woodwinds, brass and percussion sub-captions. Then, in finals one visual judge gave them a perfect score in content, and one music judge gave them a perfect score in content. As if this group couldn’t get any more impressive
  10. I also correctly predicted this ordering: Highland Park > Haltom > JJ Pearce. They weren’t finalists but they were 14th-16th respectively.
  11. Yeah that happened quickly 😭. I have an unlisted vid of their boa Dallas prelims performance, as well as some other groups that I’ll upload at the end of the season
  12. Found two more recordings of Hebron’s Area performances
  13. Gasp!😱 That’s almost like BOA San Antonio
  14. I was impressed by the quality of sound they played considering the exposed, high intensity music they attempted. During the ballad I LOVED the way both the brass and woodwinds could shape those soft, delicate phrases. When attempting something like that, it can be easy to play too soft or crescendo too soon but they handled it beautifully.
  15. Hebron blew me away with their exceptional proficiency in every possible way! Yay to my favorite group to listen to! Their shows bring on unprecedented levels of musicianship every year, it’s like the music gets harder every year🥵 whenever I listen to other groups I can tell what their limit is, like I can tell when they don’t play as many 16th notes or do as much dynamic contrast because they wouldn’t wouldn’t sound their best either way. However with Hebron it seems their skill set is LIMITLESS. Nothing is too hard for them. For performance skills, I enjoyed getting to hear how LOUD the Area C bands were! Did not expect McKinney Boyd to blow my face off🤯! I loved getting to listen to programs with strong concert band programs like Lewisville and Wylie. They reminded me of Waxahachie, having that exceptionally sophisticated quality of sound regardless of the volume, capable of making clear distinctions between various volume levels; and I loved the strong presence of the woodwinds. They impressed me with how clearly and cleanly they can execute their runs. As for show design, prosper’s was one of my favorite this year. I loved that opening brass feature will go down as an all time favorite for me. I didn’t prefer one show style over the other. Some groups I could argue I was more impressed with comparing the skillsets of the respective finalists but I enjoyed everybody equally
  16. They compare the judges’ ordinals between the tied bands. Whoever had 3 judges rank them higher than the other wins the tiebreaker and is placed higher. In McKinney Boyd’s case, judges 1, 3, and 4 placed them higher than prosper
  17. Kudos to your prediction! You may not have been accurate for finals but you were for prelims!
  18. Also yay duncanville! Go Region 20!
  19. Bell and Lake Highlands predictions were spot on!
  20. Just like Duncanville falling from 3rd to 8th last year…
  21. You were 5/6 for state qualifiers and 4/12 for finalists placements! Great Job!
  22. Some intriguing things that happened regarding my analyses and predictions: I was impressed to see Waxahachie above Keller. I recognized that Hachie utilizes more shape in their musical phrases while Keller plays higher velocity material on the move. I assumed the latter would be enough for a higher placement but it turned out to be the opposite. I recognized Bell’s excellence in visual performance and so did the judges in prelims as they received two 1st place rankings, but it was a totally different story in finals. They received two 8th place rankings
  23. I love that moment where the two triangles join together. Such a terrific big band moment
  24. 11/12 accurate finalists picked! You did 2 better than me at Area B😱
