Any favorite shows from the bands that have already performed? I loved dickinsons show.
SFA & Dawson have been my favorites today, can’t wait to see them in finals.

Anyone at this event today?

i just think that their show is too formulaic the sets the music idk if the judges will like that
UIL not BOA, Far more Achievement based adjudication.

Watched a run from this week, Dawson is fire. I see 2nd or 3rd, completely different band since they last competed on Oct. 1st.

Brazoswood seems pretty screwed performing in between dickinson and austin and it doesn’t look good for dawson either having to go before pearland
I saw Brazoswood live last week, Their music scores will drag them down. Dawson arguably sounds better than Pearland this year. ARGUABLY. But enough to were Pearland going after them won’t effect their score.
Clear Brook is in a similar music spot like Brazoswood, going after SFA who might win music here.

My take on Dawson is that its easily the most talented band they have really ever had on the field but the show is designed in a way that every single mistake is glaringly obvious. Their first hit is at the level of a state finalist and then after that things get a little shaky.
I don’t believe they get enough credit for how hard their music and visual responsibilities are. They definitely have a more traditional design.

I agree with this ranking, I could see Dawson or Dickinson jump Austin with a good run honestly
Dickinson has the unlucky draw of first in prelims and finals, I definitely think they will be unscored here no matter what.

I had figured. I have always known Dawson to have a nice balanced, rich, beautiful sound. I know Dickinson has created a reputation of marching VERY cleanly which should certainly be rewarded this cycle. Brazoswoods tends to perform tougher shows (thinking back especially to 2018) but this means they peak right at the end of the season. Clear Brook I found has a very fully fleshed out and coherent show. The uniforms, the props, the sound effects all make for a lot of consistency. The show idea and music isn't necessarily too unique but the electro theme is and they are performing it well!
Taking draw time into consideration, Finals Placements should look like:
1. Pearland HS
2. Stephen F. Austin HS
3. Dawson HS
4. Dickinson HS
5. Clear Brook HS
6. Clements HS
7. Brazoswood HS
8. Clear Lake HS
9. Clear Falls HS
10. Shadow Creek HS

I could see this being mostly realistic, I haven't seen much of Shadow Creek this year at all but having them above Brazoswood, Dawson and Clements would be interesting. Dawson's and Brazoswood's shows just need to be cleaned this week. I dont think their shows are too hard for them so I think they will be able to clean but both programs are doing shows that are a little bit different compared to what we're used to from these programs. Where has Shadow Creek competed so far?
Dawson has gotten a lot cleaner. They sound far better than Clear Brook, Brazoswood, and Dickinson, they will make state.
I saw Shadow Creek live and was not super impressed, very unbalanced sound but, they do march well!!

As DanPod said, this Area is extremely unpredictable and it could go so many ways.

Brazoswood placement was surprising maybe they just had a bad run I have no clue but I would’ve have imagined them in the top 4 at least
After seeing their UIL run, both Gulf Coast runs, they have quite a bit of dirt in their sound and feet. They still have a week left however.

Today @ Challenger Stadium was the Gulf Coast Classic Marching Festival:
Top 61st) Dickinson
2nd) Clear Brook
3rd) Clements
4) Clear Lake
5) ?
6) Brazoswood
Dickinson, Clear Brook & Clements remained 1 2 and 3 in prelims and finals. Brazoswood was 6th at prelims and in finals, kind of a surprise.
I see the advancing bands being Pearland, SFA, Dickinson, Clear Brook, Dawson

I could easily see Pearland, SFA, or Clear Brook winning this area. I think Dickinson could do well here again as they did last year at this area in prelims. Dawson and Brazoswood are the next biggest contenders for me and I think they will be fighting for the last spot in my opinion. Dawson had the upper hand at BOA against Brazoswood but its been a few weeks now and anything is possible! I think Clements will make finals as well as Clear Falls and Clear lake and I think they will all three be sitting in the 7-9 spots Saturday night. They've all three been matched competitively all season with Clements making a big jump competitively from BOA conroe to the Katy marching fest. As an alum, I'm happy to see that improvement. A couple of the other Fort Bend schools have very impressive shows this year as well and I wouldn't be surprised to see Dulles in finals.
Draw order doesn’t play out well for Dickinson, they perform 1st in Prelims AND Finals. Exactly what Dawson did last year.
Clear Brook & Brazoswood sound very similar to me, watching their UIL performance I could hear consistent individuals in their sound, that does not bode well for them.
Pearland has easy music but a really intricate Visual package and should 100% win the Visual ordinals here they don’t sound bad but are top heavy.
Dawson has the hardest music book at this contest as well as drill very similar to the 1990-2000 era of marching band in general, very exposed, mostly curved forms, very very hard to clean. Their 20th place finish at BOA Katy was out-of-left field and I still can’t really understand it.
Dickinson is Very clean and sound Very good, however, they have one of the easiest shows here. Most of the marching is 4x4 blocks/forms that are very fundamental.
No matter what happens Pearland should win. If the judges favor Cleanliness Dawson will be the most negatively effected, Dickinson will do very well. Overall this contest should be better judged then last year.

Saw Shadow Creek and Dawson tonight.
Shadow Creek should comfortably be in finals and Dawson is going to be quite special. I dare say, knowing these judges, Dawson might win the whole thing.
