  3. For those of you who talk about how you don't like your leaders, and say they get 'selected' by the band director.. I have to ask, what is the process that is used to select a leader for each position?
  4. Cedar Park High School is losing the very acclaimed Color Guard director Cody Edwards. Their assistant Color Guard director from the 05-06 school year, Joe Gilbreth, is now taking over as head Color Guard director.
  5. I agree, after game five with Dirk scoring 50 points, I'm pretty sure with enough enthusiasm and strength, the Mavs can really pull ahead. Game 5 started with the Mavs leading, and then soon widdled down to 70-77 in favor of the Suns. Most people probably gave up hope by then, but you saw Dallas come together and get led by Dirk to completely turn around the game. The same thing happened in game 6, the mavs were down by great amounts, but came back in the end. It just shows how strong the team is when thye are really determined and set on winning. After barely beating the Spurs 119-111 in overtime in game seven, and having off games with the Suns, I think the Mavericks have learned their lesson and will be really strong and agressive going into game 1 on thursday. Their main problem with the Suns, as shown in game 4, was their under-estimating of the Suns, and feeling that there was not as much to worry about as there was for the Spurs. I think Dallas will win, aslong as they do not pull a huge lead of the Heat ( 3-1) Historically it seems the more hyped up they become with the chance to win, the more off their game is. They need to use the viewpoint that the suns were having that every game should be looked at like a game 7. They need to put everything on the line, and be aggresive. As previously stated, when that happened, we saw Dallas pull miracles on the court.
  6. I don't think natural talent of an individual has anything to do with the success of the band program. It has to be the work of a collective whole. Actualgirltrombone, I believe you can recall the senior class of this year from your school. Most of them were potential all-staters, all of them were really really talented, some of their sections were stacked ( such as the flutes ). But you can see the lack of success that occured this year, because of people on the other side of natural talent, that don't want to work and bring down the program.
  7. From what I have seen from my school, generally the people who do make leadership in a younger class generally get a lot of disrespect. It is hard for juniors and seniors who feel they deserved and should be in your spot to respect and listen to you, when their only thought is that they would be better.
  8. I've only been in one highschool relationship, or only one relationship in general. It was a complete disaster, I didn't know what I was doing, and I screwed up too many times where it would be inevitable that it would be a failure. We only went out for about 1 week actively. Most people would say a lot of highschool relationships end up similiar to that. But even if it does, you have to evaluate what you gained and lost from that. For me, I lost nothing. I only gained a ton of experience and a year later looking back on it, I find myself with a wider spectrum of knowledge on the subject, and think it was completely neccasary and worth doing. You have to start somewhere, so why not highschool? Even though I don't believe you should LOOK for a girlfriend, I believe it's neccasary to follow your feelings or instincts and try things out. Most people learn from every relationship and use it to build who they are and who they will become.
  9. Cedar Park Jazz Band is submitting: A Long Time Ago A Night in Tunisia The Wind Machine
  10. Hey you forgot Taylor Clark from Cedar Park.. he made SCV too..
  11. I had a CD, but the guy who does it has a flat boring tone, and pushes and pulls too much in the fast etudes, where it isn't wise to stretch some beats as opposed to the slow ones to make music of it. It's not really that much worth listening to, it gives you an idea but i just make recordings of myself and listen to myself to learn. For Region 18 auditions, I got 5th chair out of 18 on Alto Sax yesterday for phase II and 2nd chair bari sax. ( In Phase I i got 4th chair out of 33ish people, so not a bad run at all) I made the second region band on both horns, but i picked Bari cause they take the top 2 in each saxophone room (In our region) to compete at area, and naturally I want to try out for state.
  12. Churchill and Richland by a few places, but Spring and Cedar Park should of been in finals.
  13. 1) Honors Band 2) Pre-AP Chemistry 3) AP World History 4) Jazz Band 5) Honors Band 6) Pre-AP English II 7) Pre-AP Algebra II 8) Spanish II
  14. I realize that, just pointing it out though. It doesn't make a huge difference, but it's more accurate for when the ties break. Either way, when the ties are broken, It will end up all the same anyway.
  15. When people are ranked, I think when there is a tie, such as 1, 2, 2, the next ranking is 4, not 3 like we have it designed.
  16. yeah, it would of been better to make him an older looking person, instead of a young eccentric.
  17. For all the Windows Media Player people, if you go to file, you can usually save the media unless there were restrictions placed on it.
  18. Last year, in my opinion, it would be a close tie in my opinion between the flutes and the saxophones. They both had about the same number of people all and all make region, but this year, it's a definate that the flute section is our strongest.
  19. Next year try to get physically and musically fit over the summer or before hand. It helps your body get into shape so that your muscles are worked out, and the pain doesn't bother them.
