  6. 1. RELAX 2. Do some breathing exercises for 5 minutes- make sure you are breathing low and not shallow 3. start at a mezzo-forte and play around with the dynamics. 4. when going higher, make sure you dont squinch up, but stay centered. It takes time to play loud with a good sound, but if you control your breathing and have a firm embouchre, youll be ok. When you start to go out of tune, then your breathing or mouth has changed....RELAX.
  7. oh geez...for the judges sake dont use plastic reeds for state lol.
  8. For people who do not understand: 4'33'' by Cage is basically 4 minutes and 33 seconds of silence...Its a lot more complex then im putting it but I really dont wanna type a lot. The pianist walks out, opens the key cover, and sits there, listening to the sounds you hear..whether it be someone coughing, outside noises, and the occasional sound of a page being turned...read the article they told you to look at earlier. Sorry if I couldnt help.
  9. I think 4'33'' is amazing...it really is...I remember last year our BD used it for a demonstration before...
  10. A lot of sections in my school make rules in the beginning of the year saying you arent allowed to date somebody in the section during marchings season..Because your around these people for so long, and if you break up, its just not a good situation...You can take the risk and see if it works or play it safe and EVERYBODY is happy.
  11. Obviously they shouldnt be in leadership, or band for that matter. You cannot expect a band to be good one year, its a long process that starts with: 1.Getting rid of kids that dont want to be succesful. 2.Choosing right leadership. 3.DM's who care. 4.Keep tradition, such as being at attention...Keep those, be strict about it..enforce it. 5.Make it a fun environment. 6.Make sure everyone feels apart of the group. Those are just a few things that could help "inspire" a band to be succesful, And successful does not mean to win a competition, its for the band to look back and say,"I did everything I could to make this band better." just my opinion...
  12. Maybe if we were to go back into the 70's...if only...
