i saw them at an early football game last year. recall taking note of how strong the guard was. no big surprise. Wayfaring Warrior Soul. it is a lyric from one of the two songs featured: "Sylvan Song" and "Dream of the Archer" both by Heart. The Doors. all of it i think. floor reads more expressionist, like a painting by Edvard Munch. not a big deal. a little less gaudy than some bright, lava lamp-looking monstrosity.

no, unfoooortunately my mom's rapacious quest for marching band videos didn't extend as much to winter guard. i don't think she has that finals. i've got a personal collection of favorite WGI videos with Logan, but it's still muted. i may have to contact the YouTube uploader. wonderful show. probably their best. you judging WGI this year?

i don't think people are really underestimating them. in fact, i think it's really great to see how people are responding so positively to the show, especially the people who have seen it live. when i saw it at BOA Conroe this year, i was standing up and applauding before the end, which i've never done before. it's great to see kind of a similar response from other, less biased people late season. if they're not being predicted for the very tippy top this year, it's because there are lots of other really great programs, and we're all trying to figure out what the panels will think. the competition is insane, and gets more insane every year. don't get me wrong. i'd LOVE to see TWHS improve on their San Antonio placement, but if it's not in the cards, who cares? a great show is a great show is a great show.

2021 6A UIL SMBC (Nov. 8 & 9)

i don't think this is really accurate, is it? people "took for granted" what Hebron brought to the table? it actually seems like the case for Hebron was building as we got closer to San Antonio. with no direct match-ups, either, which is impressive. see page 6 of the BOA San Antonio thread. several highly positive remarks, and straight up speculation they could win. i think the real problem is that people fixate on the critiques to the point where they ignore the favorable stuff. -
here are the judges for the obsessive weirdos. didn't see any bios or specific panels posted at the director's lounge. BOA is dragging their feet this year. Music: Tim Allshouse, George Boulden, Dave Carbone, Don Hill, Jay Kennedy, Matt McCready, Stephen Meyer, and John Phillips. Visual: Ken Giese, Michael Gray, John Howell, Bruce Jones, Greg Llacer, and Adam Sage. Chief: Richard Saucedo.

wow. y'all weren't wrong for once. that Broken Arrow show is stupendously good. i'm really liking the evocative miked trumpet solos that float above the ensemble and the dreamy color palette. it probably has great mise-en-scène as well, but it's hard to tell from the angle. i was at UIL region to see my alma mater. percussion pretty much fell apart during the accelerando in the closer, oh my goodness it was scary. i'm concerned about that, because there was also a tear during the opener at Houston prelims. the closer also just needs to be a way bigger thing. it didn't make me want to throw somebody else's baby onto the field like the ballad did. guard is pretty solid though.

2021 BOA Conroe (Sept. 25)
packwick replied to LeanderMomma's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Cy-Woods absolutely floored me! such clarity! and the red just POPS. Klein Oak and Seven Lakes as well! they were all obviously 80+ groups to my eyes and ears. i don't know if the Broken Arrow guy is working for any of them, but i thought maybe. i went in not expecting any of those groups to be as good as they were. i hope they keep it up! we need some more heavy hitters from Houston. i'm a TWHS alum, so very biased, but i also think i'm pretty picky and haven't really loved a Woodlands show in a few years. i'm also very snarky, so when they walked out, i turned to my mom and said, "Welcome to McDonalds." ("Oh, stop it!" with laughter.) the guard outfits, y'all. but good god they sounded and looked amazing tonight. i saw the prelims webcast, and i thought they were very good, but i wasn't jumping up and down. totally different experience live. so much more energy and volume and blend to that sound. and they perform with such poise and clarity. and with the weird colors in the lights, it was like walking into a dream. i was on my feet before the show was over. i've never done that for a Woodlands show before. really rousing stuff. TWHS' competitors are amazing this year. i have no idea where TWHS will end up after they get their closer on the field, but i don't really care. after a pandemic? jeez. i'm so proud of them! -
100% agree with these. i do like the inclusion of difficulty though. i feel like we've seen a pretty significant shift away from the really demanding marching + playing at the same time we saw back when i was in school. sure, our shows were filthy back then, but we MOVED! it's hard to watch LD Bell's 2002 show for example and not think we've regressed a little in that department. i appreciate the variety of movement in the newer shows though.

ok. logged in for the first time in a month probably. no new requests in my inbox. this will prooobably be my last login. i'm forgetting all my passwords anyway. i've got, like, 10 Google Drives that i've been abusing for extra storage space, and i don't remember the passwords for half of them. ? if anybody still needs access to the videos, please contact one of the other people in this thread. thank you! patrick

so, i'm coming here less and less. if you try to reach me and you've been waiting a while, it might be a good idea to message somebody else who has already received the link and ask them to share it with you. that would include people in this thread who have received it, along with (i think) some of the TX Bands moderators. thanks!

sorry. i've been really sick. i was in the ER recently, not for COVID thankfully! flare up of an infection that i've been dealing with for about 5 months now, but with some new symptoms that mimicked COVID, so i was concerned. anyway, i'm going to check my private messages in a second. Georgie McRubyRube, i believe the Marcus 2015 video is just something that i got off of YouTube, like a football game performance. so i guess the answer to your question is no? hahaha. sorry!!! ? ?

just to clarify, because i think the original sentence was kind of confusing: i only had a few later 90s VHS tapes. so, much (most?) of the 90s is pretty much stuff you can already find on YouTube. (i had the boa results up on my screen for each year and just went down the list searching.) the 2000s are pretty golden though.

ha! well, based on what i wrote, it's not that surprising. nighttime always brings out my lunacy. (if the TV show Teen Wolf is right, which i watched only somewhat ironically many years ago when i was a 25 year-old man, "lunatic" has its origins in people who lose their minds at night.) because i've been saying this to just about everyone i've sent the link to, i thought i'd just share it here: some of the preview quality doesn't seem to be as high as the original file quality. hopefully when you download a file, this is fixed. also, i've noticed that sometimes you have to click around inside the preview to improve its quality. weird Google processing stuff.

hey all you cool cats and kittens, it's Carole, here at Big Cat Rescue. jk. don't check my septic pipe. so, last time i was on here was probably a couple years ago. my username was oldtwhsband, something like that. well, i forgot my old account info, so i'm back as packwick! formerly known as Mog on the BOA forums, waaay waaaay back in the day, when i was upsetting Brett Johnson by posting dumb stuff, like dumb teenagers do. "why isn't anyone here talking about my band?! UGH! why can't we design an effective show?! UGH!" in my defense, i was tooootally always right about everything ?. a couple years ago i offered a few people access to my marching band video collection. long story short, my dear old mom collected just about every marching band DVD and VHS tape known to man, even the ones for contests The Woodlands didn't attend. she says it's because it runs in her blood, because her father was a big drum corps guy; but i'm gonna say it's because she's a crazy hoarder. (love her to death, don't get me wrong. we do our annual MotherBoyXXX BOA Houston event, for those who have watched Arrested Development -- think Buster and Lucille). aaanyway, the last time i shared my videos, i only had the top handful of groups from the early 2000s to present day + a larger woodlands folder. long story short, i felt really bad that i had all these other shows that people might have performed in and might be nostalgic about (and which could serve as a great historical and educational resource) that i wasn't sharing, so i went back through and ripped every single late season DVD i had. so, like, the late season Texas regional finals plus gn finals. i also now have every 1990s-2000s performance that is available online (again, late season TX and nats), plus some from the DVDs/VHS tapes i had available. also, i've filled out the most recent years with pretty much the best videos available online (+ some i obtained on my own). compiling all this took FOREVER to do. FOR. EV. ER. FOR. EV. ER. several weeks worth of work. in fact, i'm up way past my bedtime right now. but, it's all safe and backed up, so i can rest easy. also, i, like, know every band show now, and wrote down a stupid amount of mostly ridiculous new band show ideas out of sheer boredom as everything was processing. all stream-of-consciousness style, which i'll eventually pawn off on a surely annoyed Joni V. the coronavirus lockdown has not been kind to my psyche! THESE VIDEOS WILL NOT BE UP FOR THAT MUCH LONGER! some glitches: Northrop 93, Westerville South 96, and Duncanville 05 won't preview for some reason, but they can still be downloaded. i think one of the Union shows in the 2010s wouldn't process either. i've tried everything. i give up. absolutely none of the videos included can be bought anymore, so nobody is losing money on them, except for the people hawking used videos and DVDs on ebay. as such, there are lots of videos in this collection that you will not find anywhere else. if you are interested, please send me a private message. i will not be posting my link for any old creep who stumbles onto this website to see. only devoted band nerd creeps, please! tl;dr IF YOU WANT BAND STUFF MESSAGE ME! but not right this instant. i need to go to bed. love, Patrick
