2023 WGI: The Slay All Day Thread
packwick replied to Rubisco's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
yaassss. slaaaaay. the return of the sport of the ga... errr, ARTS, i mean ARTS! the 2023 wgi drinking game 4 those of us of age watching at home and not at risk of being expelled from a live event drinking to guard tropes, drink whenever: there's a full ensemble flag feature the one boy in the guard does the difficult solo rifle toss(es) you hear a saccharine pop ballad you see a show with a theme that has anything to do with empowerment u hear a voiceover the one girl who actually knows how to dance does 5 turns in a row and the audience screams wildly bc they can barely do a single turn the guard lightly jazz runs to the edge of the floor to pick up other equipment usually while raising arms into 5th position and lowering them the guard spells something on the floor the guard makes a recognizable shape on the floor besides the basic geometric ones, say like a heart there is a clear display of sassiness ohhhh these r just a few. even so they'll be wheeling u out on a stretcher by the end of the A class. not 4 kids, obviously -
haven't seen Mason. goin' into the contest my top 3 would've been Carmel, Avon, then Broken Arrow. not really digging BA's show this year. last year was a masterpiece, pure poetry, this yr is generic epicness and intensity w/ clunky set pieces. if u ain't entirely Cartwrighted out after this finals lineup u never will be. hahaha. 3 outta 4 tx bands make it into finals, 2 new ones. amaaazing. sad for M&G but they had a great season. SA is officially more competitive than Nats this yr at least. no big surprise there i'm sure.

Whats the origin of txbands?

ohhh god that takes me back. hahahaha. ~*nostalgiaaa~* how long has that site been dead. isn't it an acronym for like John something "Is A Dumb A**" something like that. Mister Valdeeeez should know. i also miss Hydrogen D. Violence's "poemz" or whatever they were called. hahahaha. i think it was one of our drum majors actually lmao. -

mmmmaybe, couldn't have helped. kinda the risk of electronics. Mr. Joel Denton is typically a music judge tho. Mr. Lee Carlson who did prelims is a visual guy. same sheet, but maybe diff perspectives, like DCI GE. Reagan's been suuuper dominant in visual this season. changing gears, sooo thrilled for twhs. they finally beat the 5th place record we set in 2002. took em long enough. after seeing twhs at area my early season fears melted away and i knew we all had been sleeping on them. eeeeasily in finals and strong possibility for top half at BOA i thought, then they went even further than that. unreal. sooo happy for them and the new guys. a miracle season. -

imma gonna guess that judge will change 'cause i don't see Lauren Teal yet. or Oak Ridge's former director. -

eh, except GE requires performance excellence. you don't seem familiar w/ the judging system, frankly. -

i'm so proud of twhs. to do what they just did after that major director change is remarkable. and yeah, guard is unreal this year. raising the standard again. to have that many kids doing that many advanced skills that cleanly, just wow. -

if there's a more musically virtuosic high school marching band in the world, ever, than Hebron, i've never heard it. brass was frankly better than several DCI world class finalists from this year. -
