reiterating it, hmmmm not quite, supporting it, yes. def performance plays a big role in effect, and content also plays a role in perf, that would be part of the rationale for not having the two be separate things. in wgi, we often talk of design analysis (the BOA equivalent of ens vis btw for those who don't know) as being "visual GE w/o a soul" lol. coincidentally i was just watching a bunch of judge tapes, newbies will notice right away that GE judges often focus on things that sound like they belong more on the perf sheets, tuning, releases, tone quality, ensemble balance, whatever. this makes sense, as communicating the intent of a program requires a solid performance. buuuut but, as an aside, sometimes judges become very narrow minded in this focus, let their pet peeves overwhelm everything else on the sheets. for example i listened to an absolutely horrible music GE tape from a longtime BOA judge that for several minutes focused on almost nothing except percussion overwhelming the balance of the ensemble. plenty of other things to talk about on that sheet, but the judge seemed to have limited powers of comprehension. ooooopsie! did i say that out loud? oh well! LOL. never been one to mince words, or suffer fools gladly for that matter. im like the b****y character on every reality TV competition show who shows up and is immediately like, I'm not here to make any friends!! LOL

i think oak ridge's music is really delightful, only seen a crappy close cam so don't really know about vis. seems like a western show, Ennio Morricone music. the good, the bad, and the ugly.

not sure of champ yet. i think twhs, ctj, reagan, and prooobably pearland will be safe in the top 4 tho im hoping for some upsets. bridgeland looks top half+ finals good but no idea about their music, will prob be battling cy woods, cy fair, and seven lakes for top half. be surprised if any of those 4 miss finals entirely. haven't seen seven lakes yet, theyve been performing a football show instead of their competitive show, seen that one, not very useful lol. conroe stream + results should help. hoping bowie improves on their 12th place from last weekend, just need to clean clean cleeeean. still early season, they've got time to clean for Nats. haven't heard friendswood but seen the vis. really eye popping w/ everyone in red + the ramp/stage upfront. guard is fab, def strong open class. this a Vanderkolff program? gettin' those vibes. show is called Follies! features Sondheim music. should be a good time. so those 10 probably in finals w/ 2 spots left but H-town is notoooriously hard to predict, tho i think we're gonna start seeing some stability + improvements that'll turn some heads. lots of programs in this area that are pretty well rounded w/ both strong band members + guard. oh also there's one judge on panel who gives me pause LOL. but i also haven't seen this judge on a tx panel (any panel?) in like 20 years, + it's really just one super out of step result etched into my memory lol. ill cut him some slack.

ive been keeping up w/ Hebron's vids throughout the whole season so far and actually i think the guard continues to improve each week. doooont think they'll have any problem getting it clean by late season. also i disagree w/ the suggestion about watering it down for upstairs bc challenging yourself is so important, esp when they move to indoors for WGI and suddenly all eyes are on them. agreed w/ twhs' ballad. made pretty much the exact same comment in May. they've actually drawn out the final heroic sounding "summit" chord at the climax and made it longer. think it would be better to maybe hold that chord for a few beats but then unexpectedly shift back down to a more tense, suspended chord, like they just slightly stumbled off the summit. then have some climbing mellos swirl into that tense chord w/ a ritardando like they're reaching for the top again, crescendo, THEN u get the flute soloist + warm blanket low brass chord resolution. i hear it in my head and it's brilliant, who knows in practice tho LOL.

Vista solidly first in upstairs music perf and mus effect!!! just need to cleeeeean that vis. Rock "torched" again in finals lol. i just like pretending imma disgruntled Cavaliers DCPer.

i feel like back in the day it used to sometimes take until Mon to get recaps. buuut it is strange that they were able to upload the other 3 regionals' recaps + Austin prelims but not Austin finals. computer crash in Austin after uploading prelims?? or maybe the recaps are being uploaded by Box5???

i think i moooostly agree with this. maybe Rouse, Leander, and Lake Travis were exceptions? really liking Vista's as well, think that show has legs and will prob beat 1 or both of the 2 shows above them at BOA SA if they clean it enough. def the two Cedars and Vandy i thought were more compelling last yr around this time. still a huge shock to me Vandy didn't win tho. when's the last time a band swept prelims and won it by a large margin (1.5 points) only to lose in finals and lose most of their caption wins also? seems suuuuuper rare.

is Box5 gonna replay anything bc their stream was crap?? guessing probably not...

torched by Turner and Torchia. Torchia's score for them doesn't make aaany sense based on my watching finals high cam. Howell nailed it for ens vis for them imo, he usually does. one of the cleaner upstairs vis programs. ill be surprised if they miss Nats finals. overall prelims scores look moooostly reasonable based on what i saw in finals lol, but still need those finals scores!!! why the delay!!!

everyone in the top half has been fab, at least the parts that didn't freeze up LOL. also really liked Westlake and Leander, Leander is waaaaaay improved over last year. beautiful show!!

getting a lot of "this video file cannot be played" errors as the video quality eventually collapses entirely after constant freezes LOL. Vista Ridge sounded aaamazing. All By Myself is the best musical moment of the night so far by a mile. those. brass. players. sound. FANTASTIC. clear, sonorous sounds, right on the pitch, clear technique too. i also like their vis design quite a bit, dyanamic, varied, musical, imaginative, but also A LOT dirtier than Vandy lol. both drill and the guard need cleaning, cleaning, CLEANING!!
