Wonder what sources from Indy would mention bowie and CTJ going? Woodlands are almost for sure going. Rumors are that seven texas groups have signed up for the event. We'll see come February who those groups are.

As well as the band below them in Atlanta still made boa San Antonio . And the two that beat them are grand nat finalist every year they go they make finals

I think saying that this kept Round Rock out of finals is certainly taking things far. You have no idea how much of the score was influenced by the uniforms and how much simply was a lack of execution. With only two judges for marching, it is also possible that the other judge could have been an outlier. I do not believe RR would have deserved a 35th place result in marching, but a mid 20s average from the two judges does not seem that out of place given the immensely competitive nature of the competition. Add their music scores and they definitely were a top 15 band, but I dont think they were more deserving than any of the ones that were in finals. I think we should move a bit past the complaints of this specific situation and instead seek to find solutions that can make more effective adjudication in the future.

I knew the moment that they called Tarpon in 5th, I was going to be surprised by the results. Avon lives another day in the top 3!
 
Carmel gets the first real caption sweep in BOA Grand Nationals history. I don't think they were a full point better than groups like Broken Arrow and Tarpon Springs (both of which I'm surprised missed out of the top 3), but I agree with Carmel in first.
 
Blue Springs had a great season. I hope they return soon.
 
And let's talk about those scores, and how they compare to San Antonio a week ago.

Our band director said it was (I dont want to name the judge however)

An update: judge 5s main comments on our (round rocks) Tape recording were that we "fluttered too much" and that our skirt "covered our marching".

Of course, after all he is was a RR dragon band member himself

It’s going to be a bumpy ride to finals. Very little margin for error!

For me personally there isn't "that one show" that is so good I expect a record to be broken. Honestly it makes it more fun because there are 4 or 5 bands I could see take gold under the right circumstances.
 
Side note: not to take anything away from ctj, but I wish scores had been pushed higher in 16. When I think of the most dominating San Antonio performance, it's flomo 16 hands down. Honorable mentions to Marcus 07/12 though

Just my opinion, but I disagree completely disagree.  I think that MFA is doing a great job trying to be fair.  Imagine a scenario where there is a completely random draw and all 14 of last years finalists are in a single panel?  How would that be air to all of those students?  You could argue that the eventual winner should be able to rise above all other competition, but MFA has never focused solely on what is best for the winner.  They cast a notoriously big tent that serves as many students as possible to the best of their abilities.  I commend them for this consideration.

They won't have to drive back.  They'll be performing late Friday.
 
From what I understand, they had an early Saturday draw, and got permission to skip the game Friday to avoid the late night ride, early morning performance.
 
I heard their Friday football opponent, Coppell, will be there Friday as well, for the same reasons.
