  1. Is there anyone from Alexander in this forum? WOW!! I saw them right before Leander today and was so pleasantly surprised. Not only did their band play great, but I also loved how easy it was to follow the theme. It is rare to see High School bands spell words on the field and I really liked how Alexander did this to help explain the theme.....especially at the end when they left their lit up shakos on the field. Well Done Alexander!!
  2. Did I miss it or was the "Whataburger" logo off of the CTJ sideline cover? Anyone know the story about why it was there for BOA Austin but not there for BOA SA?
  3. I filled in all the ones I could remember but left some blank. I would like to add one more category: Best prop that unintentionally trapped the judges: LD Bell...noticed several times they got stuck between the ramp and the band and could not escape through the pit like they usually do. That was fun to watch!! Best general effect:Vista Ridge Best visual: Flower Mound Best music: Hebron - WOW!! Best visual concept: Flower Mound Best show idea/concept: Reagan Best solo: HENDRICKSON CLARINET!!!!! Best feature: CTJ Trombone octet in the boats Most underrated: Rouse Most improved: Vista Ridge Best woodwinds: Leander Best prop: CTJ boats Best uniforms: Hebron (love the blue collars and gloves) Best overall pre-show: Reagan Best overall opener: Leander Best overall ballad: Vista Ridge Best overall closer: Leander Best overall cymbal line: All of them (wish more bands had this)
  4. Great perspective and I agree!! This another one of the many things I like about band. It has been great for my kids and sounds like it has been for you too. There is so much to be proud of and so many small wins to be found if you look for them. I am so glad you and your school are proud of your improvement, you should be!!
  5. So proud of our Leander kiddos!! Also so happy to be part of LISD (south) and to see Vista and Vandy in finals with us and let's not forget the 2A champion Rouse. It was sad not to have Cedar Park in finals with us but overall it was a very good night to be in Leander ISD with all our sister schools. What a great finals!! Congrats to FloMo, Reagan, Hebron, CTJ and all the other bands. What a great competition!! My wife and I just love coming to this event every year and walking around the Alamodome, Riverwalk and Mall and seeing all the parents in theme shirts representing their schools. What a great weekend. Can't wait until next year!!
  6. I will be there this evening to watch Leander and a few others (Reagan/CP) in the final block and of course tomorrow. Can't wait!!
  7. My wife is on the uniform sewing/cleaning team and I can definitely tell you that uniform room can smell pretty bad after a few weeks!! :-)
  8. This is my 11th year as a Leander Band Dad and attending this SA Super Regional. I have always loved the spirit of teamwork and genuine desire from all to see all programs do well. Even though our youngest has experienced more success lately with the program than his older siblings, I remember all too well how it felt when we never knew if we were going to make finals. Being part a "bubble band" for several years has helped me appreciate what a privilege it is to make finals regularly. In addition, it allows me to appreciate what all the band parents are feeling this weekend. I hope everyone does well and has a great experience with their kiddos. I love being a "Band Dad" and enjoy the community that we are all part of.
  9. About 5-6 years ago Texas Tech performed in San Antonio right before finals announcements. I wish BOA could get some of the larger Texas Universities like UT, A&M, UH, etc. to perform at this Super Regional. Seems like it is big enough and has enough potential students to attract their interest.
  10. I see that Texas A&M Converse is one of the exhibition bands. Has anyone ever heard of them? Are they comparable to UTSA or Texas State, both of which have been exhibition bands at BOA events in the past? I must admit, when I saw "Texas A&M" on the schedule, I had a moment of extreme excitement thinking it was the one from College Station, but honestly never even knew there was a band (or university) in Commerce. Hopefully we are pleasantly surprised!!
